When was the last time a Brit made the Quarters of a WTA event?

Two brit girls go to tier 3 semis last year.

Wow, this is amazing! After so long of no Brit girls in the QF of WTA Tour events, now we've had Anne making the Kolkata SF, Katie making the Tashkent QF and now Melanie in the Birmingham QF in the last year! :worship:

Great for British tennis, it's on the up. :)

I know of Anne Keothavong in Kolkata...but who was the other?

EDIT: I think you meant Katie...she made the QF of a Tier IV tourney ;) :p

I think Elena go to a Tokyo semi or something like that- I think she lost to Razzano.
edit- it was just the second round.

Katie, but she only reached a Tier IV QF not a Tier III SF.

whoop! well done mel :yeah:
shes gonna be full of confidence in her quarter final, nothing to lose. i think its against wickmayer? if so, not an impossible match, although the odds are (once again) stacked against her. good luck mel!

Nice win for South... and a hard win as well... Nakamura does not give these matches away, in fact, Nakamura wins 3 set matches much more often than she loses them... so South must have really put the effort in for this victory. :)
Also, South must be playing well... because anyone who has seen Nakamura play, knows that her level practically never changes, she is consistent and fights for everything, so an excellent win for South :)

Exactly, this has to be one of the two matches on tv. Well done Mel :yeah: Yanina is a tough match though, but you could do a lot worse trying to get into a tour semifinal.

Mel :woohoo: one brit in the Quarter finals. What will her ranking be for making the Quarter finals?

not much really.
shes currently ranked #154 - if she loses in the quarters, her projected ranking will be #144.
semis #130
final #109
win #93..... but lets not get ahead of overselves

edit: but then she has 2nd round of eastbourne to defend next week = 35 points
