View Full Version : Years when you love every Grand Slam Champ

So...this years slam winners on the women's and men's side have been my favorite since I started watching tennis like 7 years ago. I was always a huge fan of Hingis but never saw her during her glory days (except taped matches, thank god for this website!), and on the men's side liked Roddick, Hewitt and Safin.

But ever since 2006/2007 Nadal and Djokovic have easily become my favorite male players, due to their impressive and different types of games as well as the fact that they're the only real competition to Federer.

On the women's side Sharapova was always my #2 to Hingis, and after Ana made the RG final last year I forgave her for crushing Martina in Montreal in '06 and she's been tied with Sharapova for my favorite female player.

Needless to say 2008 has been AWESOME for me - I thought it couldn't get better after Oz where Sharapova crushed the field, played Ana in the final, and Djoker beat Fed and went on to win the title. Well, I was wrong. The French Open this year was even better, with Ana finally taking her first slam and reaching #1 and Rafa CRUSHING Fed in the final to win his 4th RG and hopefully put a dent in Roger's Wimbledon armor.

Anyway, the point of this thread really isn't to mock anyone or make fun of the fact that their favorites might not have won a slam. I want to know the last year/years you've been over the moon about the mens and womens winners of every slam?? I know this year is only half done so far, and I don't expect my favorites to win everything left, but I can't think of a year I've watched tennis where I've been this happy with the Slam champs so far.

2002 came close to be a perfect year for me! The second halves of 2000 and 2001 were great two. 2005 was good because the big four all won the slams that year. 2007 was pretty good too. I hope the latter half of 2008 is great!

On the men's side, I've been quite happy with 2008 so far!

I really enjoyed the GS winners of 2005. It was great to see each of the Big Four take a major. 1991 and 1992 were also excellent years (although I would liked to have seen Monica take Wimbledon).

I guess I will be the only person to say 2006. I liked Momo and love Juju, and Maria. I just wish Juju could of won, Wimby that year, but Momo was to good.

Yeah but Henin making the finals in every slam was something to admire, That was really good from her in 2006.
