Serve or Receive?

When your playing tennis, if you win the toss what do you choose?

i always choose receive!

Recieve

I usually serve just because people told me to. I probably have a better return these days.

If I am feeling adventurous I sometimes choose to receive.

Serve, of cource. We are no pros, who think they might have advantage in 7th or 9th game.
Every game is worth one game. Serving first is advantage for every amateur.

Why is this in non-tennis.....

I prefer the return game, but don't want my opponent to serve first, taking away that advantage.

Recieve, just a habit of mine, my return probably more of a weapon than my serve anyway

Always serve, especially if I know its going to be a tight match. Its much better to ahead 5-4 than trailing 4-5.

Serve because I can get some free points that way and I'll be ahead in the set.

Receive because I like to get a little warmed up and gage my opponent during the 1st game.

I used to receive, but nowadays the level i play in is much stronger and serving second is not at all a good thing anymore.

I serve because my serve is not that great ... I always feel I can break right back lol

Depends how i felt in the warm-up that day. But yeah normally recieve. I have a strong receiving game so i normally go 2-0 up before we both get warmed up.

I like to receive. ;)

I would make them serve first while they may be a little off and not up for a match. Sneak a break and then I would have been given time to get into match mode and be ready to hold serve. :)

Receive, my serve sucks so any chance to not serve I'll take it! :tape:

Recieve. If you can break serve in the opening game, many opponents begin to lose confidence ;)

Winning 7-5 5-7 6-2 against a very tricky player (double handed on both wings - very flat)

Serve, however it changes, 'cause often start petty bad in matches. So I prefer losing first game by receive then getting the break.

I'm a good server though.

Despite the fact that I probably have a better return game, I always choose to serve first. If the match gets tight and stays on serve, I'd much rather be up 5-4 than down 4-5.

That's exactly the way I think ... I always think I'm gonna be up 2-0 and set over. I never think 1 point or game at a time. I'm thinking sets. lol

Return. My serve is awful in the begining of a match so why get broken off the bat :o

My serve is the worst part of my game, I don't like to start matches pissed at myself. Ask MrSerenaWilliams he gave me a 6-0, 6-1 drubbing. :ras::sad::hysteric:

I play double handed on both sides ;)

Either one is fine for me. Neither my return or serving is a great at the start of the match.

I must admit, I am completely shocked that more people choose to recieve. In my playing days in all but 4 or 5 occasions the person who won the coin toss decided to serve. I've only once won the toss and decided to recieve, and thats because it was pretty windy!

I've retired from tennis um 3 times :lol:

Once to have a go at Badminton, then came back for coaching after Badminton gave me back injuries, then returned back to serious coaching, then retired because of chronic long term wrist pains (I still take a pill for them today), then returned strictly to be captain of my highschool tennis team,, then retired due to that finishing, and now Table Tennis is my speciality. I'm in another money tournament tonight :rocker2:

I always choose to receive if I win the toss. It really wasn't a big deal for me because if my opponent won the toss, most of them would always choose to serve so it was generally a win/win situation.

Serve

always receive. Gives you that little more time to warm up.
