BTW i forget to explain one detail about this Poll.
This Poll needs 12 options and maximum for this forum is 10 so i must to delete two options. I not present two options which i mark like "less logical":

Option #11: #1 Ana Ivanovic , #2 Maria Sharapova , #3 Jelena Jankovic , #4 Serena Williams , #5 Elena Dementieva

Option #12: #1 Maria Sharapova , #2 Ana Ivanovic , #3 Serena Williams , #4 Jelena Jankovic , #5 Dinara Safina

Problems with "logic" in this two options is about how to value GS results. Option where is Ana ahead Maria and Jelena ahead Serena prefer that GS results is by far most important when we judge and Elena have less sucess at slams so far in 2008 than Dinara or Sveta. In opposite case, in option where Maria ahead Ana and Serena ahead Jelena where is obviously W/L ratio have very big influence - i delete option with Dinara Safina, b/c she is player with less consistency and (much) worse W/L ratio than Elena or Sveta in first half of 2008 season.

I still think Maria has been more successful than Ana this year, more titles and less random losses. I had to pick one with Elena in it too because she has definately been top 5 this year.

Ummm. :tape:

Ivanovic, Sharapova, Jankovic, Williams, Dementieva. Or you can just click the link in my signature.

Ivanovic has the best slam results of the year, plus her TI title (a super TI) was much better than Sharapova's. She hasn't been as consistent as Maria, but she's had better heights.

JJ's slam results > Serena's. Has been more consistent. Nowhere near as good against the top players, but Serena's red clay results killed her. This is the most difficult though, since three titles > one, but Serena's W/L > JJ's. Ultimately the slams are the difference between these two for me.

Elena > Svetlana. Title, more consistent, better W/L, better against top opposition. SF + 3R isn't much better than QF + 4R IMO if at all. Elena's beaten two top 20 players at her slams in contrast to Sveta's one.

i voted for thee last one... the one system you cant really fault in the wta is the race rankings, which is usually accurate, but right now it has maria at 3 and svetlana at 5, not elena... but the race points will right themselves before the end of the year...

Even as a Serena fan, I agree with this order, although it's not an option in the poll. Serena had a great 3 tournament stretch, but she's had a few matches this year where she played listless tennis (at the slams hint hint), and lost. Jankovic has gone deep in the slams and the tier 1's, so I say thus far she's had a slightly better year than Serena.

As far as Ana and Sharapova, yes Ana has had some bad losses this year, but winning a slam, a tier 1 and reaching the final of another slam is better than winning a slam, winning a tier 1 and a tier II. I'd say Ana is having a better year than Sharapova.

Kuznetsova and Dementieva are so close, but I think Dementieva is having a slightly better year.

IF MM means Mickey Mouse then :tape:

Bangalore was NOT a MM!

To beat Venus and Patty in a row does not equate MM.

Doha on the other hand :rolls: What was the highest ranked player there?

Charleston = MM :tape:

Bangalore was the 2nd mickeymousest Tier II event in recent history. Defeating Patty means absolutely nothing, so does defeating Venus who previously lost to Kvitova and Cibulkova.
Charleston was a MM event in comparison with Miami.

Remember -- that's Top-5 we are talking about so the standards must be pretty high.

There is not a single reason to put Sharapova ahead of Ivanovic.

I agree with that and with nearly everything AnnaK said in this thread : I dunno how some can put Maria ahead of Ana, or Serena ahead of Jelena.
Maybe there's a case for the #5 between Dementieva and Safina (but her bad start of the year cost her a lot).
