View Full Version : Jankovic will be the new world #2 on June 16th

Because Sharapova isnīt defending her points from Birmingham Final last year, Jankovic will overtake from Sharapova the #2 spot.

That means that Serbia will have the 1 and 2 rankings, and most probably they will be the top seeds of Wimbledon.

Magnificent for Serbia!!!!!

But Sharapova lost Jankovic in Birmingham final last year...

This has been addressed before. The rankings take into account a players "17 best results." When the Birmingham points come off, Janko's 18th result (100 points) is enough to overtake Sharapova, who doesn't have another result to rely on.

Sharapova
3806 - 100 (Birmingham) + 0 (18th Result) = 3706

Jankovic
3755 - 140 (Birmingham) + 100 (18th Result) = 3715

That's good. How can she not get to #1 when she plays so often.
It has to happen.

Jankovic actually played S'Hertogenbosch.

I believe that Maria will return to No. 2 after these points come off, but they won't affect Wimbledon seedings. Maria will be at No. 3 unless the seeding committee moves her up to No. 2.

Correct. JJ will lose 100 points from S'Hertogenbosch and replace them with 75 from Stuttgart, putting Maria 14 points ahead of JJ in the rankings for #2.

It doesn't matter if Masha returns to the number 2 . Jankovic already was number 2 .....

1 week or 200 week , the same

Rankings and Seedings don't really matter.

The better player wins the tournament.

Can't wait for Wimbledon.

Jankovic was never #2.
Next week she will achieve her career-high ranking at #2.

Her career-high ranking is #3, when she first rose in June 11th, 2007.

So far in WTA history (Open Era actualy, since rankings exist) including Jelena only 10 players have career high #3 and only three of this ten won some slam (Mandlikova, Sabatini and Pierce).

But if we talking about players which reach TOP2 in WTA rankings - 22 of 23 players which ever reach #1 or #2 won atleast once some of slam titles. Only exception is Andrea Jaeger which retire already like teenager!

So this is fantastic sign for Jelena career. Like i already notice, 22 of 23 womans which have ability to Reach sometime TOP2 in rankings - won atleast once slam! Good thing is that Jelena is good at all surfaces but honestly i think her chances at Wimbledon grass is worse in comparation with hardcourts or clay.

Ranking's are just numbers, look at Hingis she was number one for a year or so, and never won a GS.
Once you win a GS, i think is nice to have the no1 but when you have several GS under your belt it doens't count as much as Winning a GS.

offcourse everybody wants to be no1, but they rather win GS.

:tape: WTA Tour get it together.

I expect Sharapova to be firmly no.2 and maybe no.1 after Wimbledon where she'll be stacking up points.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Hingis never won a Slam? She has 5, and so many other GS Finals.

Also, I am not saying ranking wins tournaments, but I think itīs a great achievement a player reach a career-high #2, like Jankovic. That was my point starting the thread!!!

And please, go study more WTA, and GRAND SLAMS!

I think one day she would get that ranking, with or without so many tournaments. This day will be next monday.

Hingis won her 5 slams between 1997 and 1999. moriah was talking about 2000 and 2001. Hingis was #1 for a good portion of both those seasons, but didn't win a slam. Her 2001 year was actually worse than her 2000 year, as I don't think she even won any tier 1 events in 2001, but kept her #1 ranking until October.

Maybe, but it probably won't last long. Sharapova will drop her San Diego tier 1 points from last year, since that event no longer exists.

If Ivanovic has a rough Wimbledon, it's possible that the top 4 will be separated by something like 400 points. Pretty intense.

:sobbing: @ people saying she is World number 2 only because she plays a lot.

:haha:

You have to earn that spot, someone is taking 3 - week rest to be 100% ready for big tournaments, someone is playing a week after week.

Ana and Jelena seeded 1 and 2 :yeah: Finally a chance for Serbian final.
