It seems, Carla Suarez's QF in Roland Garros had an effect in the young spanish girls.
Today in Barcelona Tier IV, Maite Gabarrús (1989, 432) and Leticia Costas (
1990, 541) advanced through the Qualys with victories over Top-200 players. They are promising players, in fact Maite was European Finalist Under 16 (l. to Cornet) but without great victories in the tour, now with Carla example they saw that IS POSSIBLE!!!

BCN Qualys
1R Leticia Costas (WC) def Hlavackova (5) 5/7 6/0 6/2
2R Costas def Bou 6/4 6/3
3R Costas def Jidkova (2) 6/1 0/6 7/5 (from 3/5 in the last set!!!)

1R Maite Gabarrús def Sheila Solsona 7/6 6/4
2R Gabarrús def Chvojkova (7) 7/6 7/6
3R Gabarrús def Silva (3) 6/1 4/6 6/3

:bounce:

P.D.: In fact, some years ago, Maite used to beat Carla in Spanish National championships!!!
P.D.: R1 M. J. Martínez-Sanchez def Wozniak 6/4 6/1 :)

If not injuries, Maite would probably have been inside Top 100 now...

I think Carla is a really nice girl, but her game is another Spanish stereotypical one. I think It's great for Spain to have so many representatives, but there should be more variety in their group.

Suarez Navarro is a good player - at RG she wasn't just camping 10 Kms behind the baseline pumping away topspin the way she did at the Estoril Open. She was going for her shots and she was playing reasonably entertaining tennis, considering her limitations (no serve, no volleys, no overheads).

The others, horrible moonballers all. I'm willing to cut some slack to Eloisa Maria Compostizo de Andres (try saying all of that without stopping to take a breath) because she has killer legs, but she really is ghastly otherwise.

Actually. Carla's serve is not all that bad. For clay at least. From what I saw in Paris, she has great placement and I didn't see too many winners blasting by her.

It could become a big shot for her if she starts to take the game more seriously after her quarterfinal finish in a Slam.
