In my opinion some of the best were:

Serena Williams def. Jelena Jankovic 6–1, 5–7, 6–3 (Sony Ericsson Open)
Serena Williams def. Maria Sharapova 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 (Family Circle Cup)
Dinara Safina def. Justine Henin 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 (Qatar Telecom German Open)
Dinara Safina def. Serena Williams 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (Qatar Telecom German Open)
Dinara Safina def. Maria Sharapova 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 (French Open)
Dinara Safina def. Elena Dementieva 4-6, 6-7, 6-0 (French Open)
Ana Ivanovic def. Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 (French Open)

Ana vs Schiavone and Ana vs Jankovic were very nice.:p

the match where Serena beat Sveta 3-6 7-5 6-3 in the Miami semi was also one of the best imo.

safina's matches against sharapova and lena at RG - to do the same thing twice! and in a GS too!

I'd go with Safina-Sharapova

Personally it was the AO final, because I was there.

Havent seen a whole lot of matches aside from the slams thanks to our lack of coverage.

From the little I saw Dinara's match against Dementieva in RG.

I still think Henin def. Kuznetsova 4-6 6-2 6-4 at Sydney was the best. Ana-JJ RG semi comes in a close second. Some of those matches listed in the first post were exciting but not very good.

best display of tennis from one player... sharapova df. henin AO... amazing tennis, out of this world... if she played like that all the time she woodnt lose a match all year.

best match... ivanovic/jankovic... so much on the line and great tennis - especially the last set!

It's hard because the best match I saw in terms of quality was Serena beating Venus in Bangalore, but there wasn't a ton on the line at a Tier III semifinal. The Miami semifinal between Serena and Kuznetsova was intense because it was the past two champions and a Tier I, and the quality was quite good. But for most on the line with still high quality, I'd have to say Ivanovic-Jankovic at the French. #1 ranking, spot in the French Open final, dramatic character contrast...good stuff.
