Agree or disagree with Mary Carillo??? :o

Ugh, just shut up. Enough threads on Ana today. Give it a rest. I'm not trying to be a hater, I'm being realistic. Yes, the girl won a Slam. Yes, she's #1. Yes, she's a great champion. But it's not like she just won the fucking Golden Slam. Even Ana would think you people are overreacting, whether you're a fan or not.

No, she doesn't even have the best forehand on the tour.
Dementieva holds that title.

Besides, Serena's serve is the single best shot in our sport.

Did Carillo say "best shot" or simply "best forehand"? I would say it's one of the best shots in tennis, but not THE best shot.

You shut up. As you said, Ana just won a slam AND she got to no.1. Rightfully there is alot of talk about her. In fact, the whole week or more after a slam normally has alot of dicsussion on the person who won it- this is just the first day!

It's close but Ana's forehand is a more devastating shot than Lena's.

I'm so tired of Mary Carillo kissing everyone's ass when they ascend to the top.

Wimbledon 04 - AO 05 she was ALL over Sharapova like Maria was Mother Teresa.

Mid match AO 05 vs Serena. Maria is the better player, Maria is so good, Maria wow she hits harder than Serena.

AO 07, Charleston, Miami, everywhere else Serena murdered Maria : "Serena just has that little extra power." "She does everything better than Maria." "Serena blah blah blah."

Don't invest too much stock in what that bitch says. She'd praise Bin Laden if he came WTA #1 :rolls:

yeah, someone just needs to stab her ass

"This isnt evena serious injury, but Im sure Monica will milk it." Shes such a bitch
Anyways no, its not the best. Serena's Backhand, Serena's 1rst serve, Venus 1rst serve, Serenas second serve. jankovics backhand.. Kuznetsovas forehand...

All great shots... i give Serena's serve the tops cause as others have said shes won majors alone on just that. everything else is about even though... Carillo just likes to overtalk everyone until they do something she doesnt approve of and then they hit her black list for life (venus/ Serena/ Monica)

Why has this bitch not said anything bad about Justine's retirment and losing interest in tennis when for years she drug the sisters names into the mud saying they'd lost interest and didnt care about tennis...:help:

I'm not biased but Serena's serve and Nicole's FH are still better :)

OsloErik
Jun 8th, 2008, 06:26 AM
It's definitely up there. I'd rank it as the best forehand on tour by quite a bit, and she outmatched Jankovic's backhand with it, Sharapova's backhand is a little funky right now...the only shot that's can compare would be Serena's serve, but she didn't just win a slam with it...so I'd say it's the Ivanovic forehand at the moment. And it's been one of the two or three best shots all year.

Will say one thing that at least this French Open, that forehand was THE most devastating shot I think I saw from any player on a consistent basis.

Ana really dominated with that shot in every match she won. Nobody was more consistent on that level.

Polikarpov
Jun 8th, 2008, 06:55 AM
There's a certain feel or look to her forehand that makes me go WOW sometimes. I dare say that if only Ana had Steffi's footwork, she could possibly have the best forehand of all time.

It's not the best shot, but it's definitely recognizable. When I see Ana, her forehand comes to mind instantly. Just like Serena's serve, Justine's backhand, Venus' drive volleys etc.

Have a look at her Rome and Berlin losses. There's your answer.

Players who hit hard, flat and deep and move well, nullify it to a fair degree.

Slutiana
Jun 8th, 2008, 09:19 AM
100% No. The reason she won this title was because her backhand was much better than before, usually her backhand would break down after like 2 shots but it was much better this tournament. I dont think it will last, though.

Jun 8th, 2008, 09:45 AM
I agree actually...

When it's on it's one of those few shots that makes me go wow  She hit one cc return of serve against safina that was just sick. She also barely made any errors with it, while every shot hurt. If she can keep that level up she should be winning a lot more slams.

But what really won her the tournament was her defence. I thought at some points in the sf she defended better than jankovic (which I find quite an achievement).

Too much praise for Ana in my post :p. I find her antics annoying but her tennis beautiful.... what to do, what to do :(

Yes, Serena's serve is great. But aces don't mean everything. The quality of the first serve means more. First serve winning percentage.

Well I think it's irrational to say it's the BEST SHOT because there were still inconsistencies both in the SF and finals so you can't call it the best shot. OK maybe the best shot this fortnight, but not ever. Similarly, Justine's forehand and backhand were the best shots at USO last year but in say Dubai this year they were ridiculously bad.

"usually" meaning in two or three tournaments, tops, since Berlin '07? Because her backhand has been a consistent, rarely spectacular, rarely breaking down shot since mid way through last year.

Serena's serve is the best shot in women's tennis.

Ana's forehand is disgustingly accurate though. (From someone who isn't a fan).

LudwigDvorak
Jun 8th, 2008, 11:45 PM
Between Ivanovic, Dementieva, and Kuznetsova, I'm not sure who has the best forehand. You could even include Schnyder if you want.

Ivanovic's FH is the biggest shot in the game, but I think the others use their forehands in more effective ways, particularly Schnyder and Kuznetsova. Dementieva won't swat away an opponent off the court like Ivanovic will in one stroke but she just uses it better. I know I sound like a biased fan, but I just don't know how else to phrase it. For once I can't explain something Elena does in her game.

Anyway--if it isn't the best shot, it's in the top five. At least. Give her some credit here.

No disrespect to Ana but it is the same old deal any time anyone wins a slam a noteable commentator says something like this. For me the biggest weapon in the womens game at the moment is Serena's serve as for all time it has to be Graf's Forehand. Ana's is a wonderful shot but it can go off but when it is on watch out!

I hope you're kidding, especially with Kuznetsova.

It's between Serena's serve and Ana's forehand and it's very close. Just because of her RG performance, I go with Ana. If she keeps it up, then this shot has the potential to be the most dominating shot on tour.

Maria's BH is excellent, of course, but it's no where near as domianting as Ana's forehand. This is super caliber stuff we're talking about.

The backhand of Venus Williams is the best shot in my book & when her forehand is on there is no other forehand in the sport as devastating on the women's side. That is how she has won 4 Wimbledon Championships so far.

I think Anna C. also has a nice forehand.

It's gorgeous!! Last few games of the final, it was amazing!

Anna C. has a nice forehand-not as lethal, but pretty great!

Just jump on the bandwagon like I did. :p
At least she has some tennis feel when it comes to slicing and coming to the net in addition of having a devastating ground stroke. Can't say that about most of the ball bashing generation.

Mary Carillo just says stuff to say things...she has to talk, it's her JOB. The wouldn't pay her if she didn't talk. ignore it:rolleyes:, because she always kisses everyones butt, if they are on top.

I think this is very accurate. Of the four, Dementieva hits the more consistently flat shot, Ivanovic can hit with topspin but flattens it out for a drive better than Schnyder or Kuznetsova, while Kuznetsova does the same less frequently and Schnyder much more rarely.

Of the four, Ivanovic gets more pace, but if you can handle her pace you can respond to it in kind. That's why players with bigger, flatter shots can keep up with her on hardcourts (Sharapova, Dementieva, etc.). Kuznetsova it's harder to hit winners off of, but she's got to do a bit more to win the point. Schnyder as well.

Currently, I'd say Ivanovic has the best forehand on tour in women's tennis. I dunno about it being the best shot in women's tennis.

For me without question... Lindsay's Forehand is better than Ana...

Well, for the past 2 weeks it has been the best shot.
It has definitely become one of the best shots overall in the game.
