Marinas win-loss singles record on grass this year is 14-1 :D

Not bad when you consider that its not her best surface

I agree, she is a definite for the top 50. Even the rose-tinted-spectacle wearing fans of Anne Keothavong have to admit that her stay in the top 100 will be brief.

No we don't.

Other than 2 grass court results in 2004, the only other time Anne has beaten a top 100 player was world number 98 Castano this year (Castano is currently out of the top 120). Anne's never qualified for any grand slam despite 13 attempts and lost easily to the world number 80 today. She'll be back down to 130 by August.

Surely she beat a top 100 to get to the Kolkata SF?

If she maintains her level for another month or two, she'll not need to qualify for the next few GS's :)

If you're going to hate, at least get your facts right. She beat 71 ranked Errani in Kolkata. After 2004, she had that horrible knee injury and only got back to the level in which top 100 players even play by the end of 07. She had a bad start to 07 but beat Errani in Kolkata. She only played 6 top 100 players (incl. Jankovic) in 07 and 3 this year.

She's at a level where she will be playing more top 100 players so lets see what happens now.

I apologise for missing the victory against Errani. I could mention her subsequent defeats to Koryttseva, Rolle, Gumulya, Vernon, Niculescu, Lisjak, Larsson, Voskoboeva, Zahlavova-Strycova, Rybarikova, Wickmayer, Foretz and Hercog but as you say, we'll see what happens now.

Koryttseva - No disgrace in Anne's first tour semi. Mariya was quickly on the rise, and has reached the top 60 since
Rolle - Was in brilliant form at the end of last year, beating Golovin at the US Open
Gumulya - Anne retired
Vernon - Anne retired
Niculescu - Brilliant player who has shot into the top 100 since
Lisjak - Potentially very dangerous, although granted she is in terrible form this year
Larsson - Talented player, who beat Anne during a 12 match winning streak
Voskoboeva - Went on to reach the third round of Indian wells and got into the top 100 again this season
Zahlavova-Strycova - Pretty sure Anne had MPs. Zahlavova-Strycova has been in great form this year, winning 3 ITF titles
Rybarikova - Beat Anne in a $50k final. Incredibly talented player at a career high at the moment. Former junior Wimbledon finalist and had it not been for injury problems, I'm sure she'd be ranked a lot higher
Foretz - Tricky player than Anne should have beaten. But playing on clay in France, there was little in her favour..
Wickmayer - Hardly any need to state how talented Wickmayer is. Now ranked in the top 100
Hercog - Likely to be a future name. 31-6 record this year at only 17. Hasn't had too many high ranked wins this year but surely it's only a matter of time.

Five of those players reached the top 100 after defeating Anne, and plenty are at career highs. Zahlavova-Strycova is top 100 in the race too. Only a couple of those matches were ones that Anne DEFINITELY should have won. I know she needs to beat higher ranked players to stay in the top 100, but she will have the chance to play them now that she can be directly accepted into more draws which is great due to her confidence and form. We need to give Anne a chance before we write her off. After this week, she will rise to 92. It's a further step in the right direction, and maybe she can continue to follow in the footsteps of those mentioned players that beat her. Maybe she isn't as talented as a lot of the other girls, but she makes the best of what she's got and seems to be taking advantage.

50K ITF till GS still is not over is for sure not tournaments for Marina level players. But she commit there to reach Beijing Olympic visa and with this victory she is for sure qualify by her tommorows #64 career high rankings.

That is real reason why i want to congrate her... not this "title".

Congrats Marina :worship:, i'm not sure but think that she will be first ever player at Olympics from New Zealand in WTA singles so this is also big achivment for their tennis also, not only for Marina Erakovic.

I think it was just a warm-up event for Marina. I've seen her in Istanbul Cup and she AMAZED me with her game. And remember that clay isn't her favourite surface. That girl is probably one of the fittest out there and her HUGE serve will really hurt the top players in Wimbledon and i won't be surprised if she reaches QF there.

Oh and Kitty i have some pics of her from Istanbul Cup. PM me if you are interested :)

I must have missed this post before

Marina isn't the first ever player to reach the Olympics. We had Belinda Cordwell play in them back in 1988. She was a top 20 player remember :p

Well Done Marina:)

Shame for Anne. but a good week. Hopefully she can pick up a few wins in the grass season to cement her place in the top 100.

Why should we think Annes top 100 stay will be short? This win will take her even higher to 92. 1 win in either wimbledon or the US open will see her safely in the top 100.
