View Full Version : Berlin Winner: Maria Sharapova's Worst Fear

InsideOut.
Jun 2nd, 2008, 05:52 PM
Last year, Sharapova lost in the semis of RG to the winner of Berlin, Ana, 6-2 6-1, one of the worst losses of her career.

This year, she once again lost to the winner of Berlin, Safina, in the fourth round wasting a match point and leaving her top ranking up for grabs.

Is the Berlin winner Sharapova's greatest fear at RG or what?

It's just all fixed.

Berlin final 2007: Ana - Sveta

Ana won and beat Maria at RG.
Played Sveta in the QF.

Berlin final 2008: Safina - Dementieva
Safina won so she only has to beat Maria at RG and play Dementieva in the QF.

this one is up there with her loss to serena in 05, match point loses are ALWAYS worse than 6060, 6162 or 6163 losses... in those losses she had no chance to win, but to be up match point and be in such a strong winning position and lose is something i cant see her getting over quickly...

Justine won Berlin and RG in 2005 and beat Maria in both tourneys on the way to victory, so there's definitly a trend ;)

Some threads and some of you posters out there are just too simple :smash:.

it's simple, u put a clay courter who's playing well and not being a mental midget on the day against maria and they will win :) like henin, ivanovic and safina have demonstrated.

on other surfaces however it's a different story and maria is much more of a threat

It's a totally different story on hardcourts :lol:

Sure thing, give them Pin's serve (or just take their serve away from them, doesn't make a difference) and they can take Maria to 9-7 in the third.

Add to that, the Berlin winner will lose the final at RG, see 2007.
