the audience should respsct the players , roland garos audince are arrogant and give themselves the right to be against any player with really no reason and they have history of that , this should be stop
maria lost and nothing will change and the loss will not be painfull like last year loss and only one tours
but it'is sad whan you find yourself against thousands of people
they should know that they are audience in a grand slam and learn how o respect players or just make it on another country that will feel so prowd that top players are playing on their conuntry in a grand slam

Very rare to see Maria emotionally wound up and letting everyone see it - she hardly ever betrays weakness like this.

And verballing the French crowd is a classic case of misplaced aggression - the problem was your game dear, and your movement, not the crowd's reaction to you blowing a match from match point up.

Do you realise that different people go there every year? Maria is supposed to show effort on the court- it's her job! If she got wound up because they were doing a mexican wave and holding up the serve - you have to soak that up. DURING the match, she has done anything.

Maria called the crowd assholes.. And if you think people can't hear, people near her can.. Serena didn't insult the crowd..So the people closest to her heard the remark and spread it around the entire stadium? That's why most of the people in the stadium booed her? They were raucous, loud and rude before she called them out. Her remarks was not the cause of their behavior. And Serena's remarks about the crowd before the match affected how they would treat her during the match. It's the same difference. If you think this is Maria's fault then it's Serena's as well.

I personally don't think either is to blame. It's the uncouth French crowd.

Would there even be complaints about the crowd if Maria had won today?

Dealing with the crowd is part of the game, the players know what they're up against when they go out there. They are professional sports people, if they can't handle it then tough luck.

Besides the reason why Maria lost today is because of Dinara, not the crowd.

Fed Cup is the clue right there. In case you didn't notice, that was one country against another. One national team against the other. Russia vs. Israel. The atmosphere, approach, and mentality going into Fed Cup & Davis Cup matches are different.

Uh-huh.

I remain unconvinced. Doesn't make any sense that you love a hostile Fed Cup atmosphere, you get off on it, but you don't like it in a regular event or Grand Slam.

I think you have to do a fair bit of psychological dancing on the head of a pin to have that make sense.

If she takes the bright side, she should take the dark side as well. She was the lady on the field in Israel, but she was the b*tch in Paris today.

That's quite an understatement. "not nice"...No, it's rude. It's very hard keeping focus throughout the match with the whole crowd being against you. And you're all alone.
I really don't think she deserved for crowd to boo her after she lost (n1 seed). We all know how one could feel after such a loss (she had the match in her bag..but she is only one to blame, not the crowd. But that's not the point here).
She was nothing but gracious at the net. It takes heart to do that. We usually see much lower ranked players acting childish and bitchy and at the same time they're not under so much pressure to win and don't get so much crap after they lose. (hats off to WS for this also) :worship:
She didn't wave to the crowd who was against her to begin with. Like she hurt their feelings. Yeah, right..No..they just need something which would rationalize their negative feelings towards her when in fact they have nothing..

Thanks Laura. (maria_kim) - the feeling is mutual as I already said in JJ's forum.

They don't know Ana cos she's only been a top player for a year. If she wins Wimbledon, she will be more of a crowd favourite here than Maria is. And with all the fuss about Maria's screaming, I'd hardly call her one of the best loved champions here.

:haha: :haha:

Thats why she is always warmly received. Gets lots of press. Large crowds for her matches. Remembered for beating Serena at 17. Well known through all the endorsements, the grunting, the attitude, the great interviews she gives.

Ana is hugely boring in comparison, and no one over here will care for her that much (apart from the perverts in The Sun and FHM).

What point in the match was it?

I think it was at *2-3 when Maria won a point to go back to deuce after Dinara having the advantage and break point.

Ana will never be a crowd favourite here in England, she's too bland and boring and no one knows who the hell she is.

Maria, Venus and Serena are the most recognized over here.

Known enough to beat Maria in the FHM UK poll

CLEO get over it, Maria lost not due to the crowd, but becoz Safina played a great match.
So grow up and accept that not everybody loves your darling. And if the crowds are booing her, that's just a part of the FO. (ask: serena, venus, momo, justine, roger) Maria just couldn't handle it, everbody has being kissing her ASS for years. And yes i will boo you if you call me asshole.

Evert, Courier, Chang, Agassi were quite popular at Roland Garros.

BS.They always supported Evert, Courrier, Chang, Capriati, Seles etc...They liked the sisters at the beginning of their careers.
And Agassi was the ultimate crowd's favorite.
Being American has nothing to do with them liking the player or not. They generally support the underdogs (like a lot of crowds) and seem to booed players that they perceive has arrogant or with a sucky attitude.

You can't make people respect you. You have to earn it. The way she was acting, doesn't look like she's going to get it anytime soon. She needs to get over herself and eat a nice slice of humble pie.

Great interviews? People call Ana boring but Maria's not exactly much better.
Her diva attitude is a reason for people not to like her.

Ana is a warm down to earth girl with a cute smile. No calling people assholes. Everyone loved her last year and if she wins it she will be recognised.

I don't care how boorish the French crowd got, she had no business calling them f*****g a**holes. I hope she gets fined for unportsmanlike conduct.

BTW, when Serena was booed in 2003, she didn't stoop so low as to curse the crowd.

Serena bought an apt in Paris. I'd suggest Maria start looking well in advance of 09 French Open.

Oh no. :unsure::hug:

Just over time the French have never liked English and vice versa something to do with the war me thinks  But I am shit at history so don't quote me on that but a while ago I was out clubbing in Manchester and we ran in to a bunch of French tourists and they started shouting horrible things to us for being English was quite funny actually because I was the only English person there, the rest of my mates were Welsh :lol:

Sounds like the French/British have a love hate thing going on since the hundred years war. :hearts:

What makes it worse, for me, is that both languages share so many words. It messes up my pronounciation when speaking and reading out loud.

Oh yeah like they could actually hear her...

She got booed because she left court without signing autographs, as I'm sure many of you would if you were upset.

The Roland Garros crowd as is expected get more pathetic each year.

Maria did nothing wrong to warrant that abuse - if you think I am biased - no - I actually wanted Dinara to win.
same here!

Cus its the french. They boo everyone even there own. I say if you anit been booed at the French you are not a star.
Both Williams have been booed Federer been booed Nadal Novak Roddick.
Bring on the booing I say thats what makes the French

I watch every year this tournament and I m sure Federer never being booed by the french crowd. They like him, more than nadal for sure:p

as for sharapova ,the crowd doesnt appreciate her cause she looks like "miss iceberg" fusioning with miss grunting machine, hitting hitting harder and harder.
If she doesnt give anything to the crowd, the latter will give her the same.
Mary Pierce who is french and even more the last french towin roland garroshad been booed by the crowd.I remember that year,I think it was in 2002,she was completely disappointing in her game, losing poorly in first round.I dont say they are right when they booe a player but they are like that.
if they like you they will cheer for you and even love you,see Kuerten example.

dont think sharapova will be liked in roland garros, she doesnt have a good image there.

well I think it is acceptable perhaps to boo at certain points of the match if they feel unhappy with certain calls for example. However, I do think it is rather classless to jeer someone off the court after they've put on an entertaining performance for a few hours. They could show a little more respect.
