View Full Version : Greek stuff talk

May 31st, 2008, 04:51 PM
so this new thread is to talk about anything related to greece that it's not related to tennis. anything else (like the volleyball thread) will be moved to where it should belong. anyway, there are not many posters right now. i may create a thread for non-tennis general stuff if the amount of posters increases. for now, anything that it's not greek tennis or just greek related will be moved. you may have a brief off-topic talk. you may talk about polish volleyball if you feel it belongs here or if you just feel happy and just want to mention it. but there's no need to create a brand new thread for it and there's also no need to create a full debate about the issue. a short mention is okay as long as it doesn't interfere with the rest of the stuff, but that's just it.

Thanks ;)

Hmm....anyone like our Eurovision song?
I think it's okay. Could be better;)

Mar 3rd, 2009, 06:14 PM
ehhh it could've been better

if we win it will be because of Sakis and not the song ;)

Mar 3rd, 2009, 08:08 PM
hi, gmak:wavey:
I agree. I really think that his huge promotion tour is really going to benefit him:D
Look at Dima Bilan and Elena Paparizou. Bilan got 2nd in '06 and won in '08. Paparizou got 3rd in '01 and won in '05. Sakis Rouvas:
3rd place in '04
winner in '09???????

Mar 4th, 2009, 05:15 PM
I've thought about that too ;)

maybe that's what Sakis thought as well when he saw Dima winning last year

What do you think about Greek athletes in other sports? I just realized on monday that the men's national basketball team is ranked #4 in the world:eek::woohoo:
Football should get back into the top 10 after the 2010 World Cup, unless something goes wrong and we can't qualify again:o
I don't follow water polo, but I know that Greece is a world powerhouse. Volleyball has gotten much worse in recent years. I remember seeing the Athens 2004 mens quarterfinal between the US and Greece, where Greece was up 2 sets to 1, and then choked in the last 2 sets and lost 3-2:o
In baseball, Nick Markakis represents Greece in international competition, and is very famous in America, as he has proven to be somewhat a star in the MLB:D
In athletics and weightlifting, we are unfortunately losing our tradition:sad:

In my opinion, though, basketball and football are really growing tremendously, and so many kids these days are playing. Volleyball is always played on beaches, but it seems like kids don't have a desire to play indoor volleyball, although that might change with Panathinaikos' recent European success. Tennis seems to be growing too, as the Athens Tennis Masters Academy has had some commercials on Greek TV. I think that Baghdatis and Daniilidou really get Greeks interested in tennis, and now even Pete Sampras and Mark Philippoussis are participating in exhibitions in Greece.

What do you guys think?

Apr 17th, 2009, 05:50 AM
FIFA's April rankings have Greece up 6 spots from #19 to #13:woohoo:

Apr 26th, 2009, 12:33 AM
Who do you guys support in Greek football? I like Olympiakos
And NO, I am not a bandwagoner;). I am from Pireas(well, mostly), and that's where my family is and our apartment is two blocks away from their stadium:)
I always root for all Greek teams in European competitions though:D

May 6th, 2009, 07:11 PM
of course i'm Olympiakos :rocker:
i couldn't be anything else  ;)

we won a thriller football cup final on penalties 15-14
but very gutted for losing in the Euroleague semis

May 6th, 2009, 07:48 PM
I know:D We are great in football:p
Soon they will lose count of how many times we won:devil:
I'm disappointed we lost in basketball, but at least Panathinaikos won:shrug:
It could've been the Russian team, so I'm glad that at least a Greek team won (although I would like it better if say AEK or PAOK or some random team won instead of PAO:devil:)

gmak, where are you from in Greece?

May 7th, 2009, 07:08 PM
we just did the double at volley as well ;)
we beat PAO 3-0 :D

I don't follow volleyball that much (except when Greece is in a big competition:o) but it's nice to knowt that we beat those greens:lol::devil:

I'm from a few places in Greece, but basically I'll just say I'm from Athens since that is where my family met each other:)

May 12th, 2010, 04:18 PM
hi guys :bounce: I'm gonna be in Athens during the next week. I will be very busy for most of a time, but I'll probably have couple of days to myself. That's why I'd love you to recommend me some places worth visiting. And by that, I don't mean the historical, and antiquity related areas - I'm surely gonna see that too :) I'm lookin more for some less popular, maybe alternative cafes, clubs, beaches, and more, that would represent more authentic atmosphere of the city. I'm not much of a travel guide person, who needs to see what is objectively classified as important, I'd love to know what is there to watch/experience that makes you love Athens :) Here on PM pls.
Sorry for spaming the thread, but I guess it may be calle a Greek stuff ;)

May 13th, 2010, 04:45 AM
Well I guess you know all of the famous places already :p
Check out the old Olympic Stadium, not many people visit it and it is very historical so be sure to check it out :yeah:
I'm not really into clubbing and I've only gone to clubs on islands in Greece so I can't help you with Athenian clubs...
Beaches are really all over. If the weather is nice, I would recommend taking a bus to Saronida for a few hours. Saronida isn't that far away, and the beaches are amazing, and the scenery that you pass on the bus ride is stunning!
You should also check out Lake Vouliagmeni, it's pretty famous yet also quiet at the same time, but I don't know if it will be open since it's still early for swimming, but most people don't swim there because it's scary, but there's a nice cafe next to the lake ;)

May 14th, 2010, 08:21 PM
Thank you, much appreciated. I'll keep it in mind :)
