these are all well and good, but most of these are from the past five years!

If I had to throw a name in there, Mariaan de Swardt would be one of them (provided I'm thinking properly; Navratilova's doubles partner in the mid-90's?). There's also some Aussie from the 80's who had a game like watching paint dry. The only plus was she gave you a great chance to see her opponent hit tremendous shots.

I never really liked Mauresmo's game especially when she is tentative. I really dont like pushers or people that use a lot of spin. I think it's different not to like some player's style, and to find it boring. I hate ball-bashing, but yet I find Sharapova fun to watch, as well as the WS (not that they are ball-bashers). On the other hand, I love the game of Mauresmo, but I always get bored watching her. The same with Chakvetadze or Pennetta (and I love her!).

I understand some dislike certain players but to say Henin and Graf boring just shows how much some people know about tennis.....

My choice would be Conchita Martinez....I swear to god one time she was playing some defensive player (can't remember who it was cos I prob was half asleep) and her moonballing....OMG that was worse than reading phone books..

As with current active players, I'd say Eleni Daniilidou....just rough tennis in my worthless opinion.

Wait a minute, how can Dementieva be boring? Do you mean personality-wise or game-wise, because I disagree with both. Even though she can be polite and demure at times, she does throw in her little barbs about players from time to time. I think she's feisty. And as far as her game, do I even need to explain? Would you mind elaborating on why you think she's boring? I'm very curious.

I wonder why so many people mentionned Huber. There are (were) so many boring players, at least even if she played brainless tennis, you wouldn't fall asleep when watching her.

I would say the most boring players are the likes of Likhovtseva, Tanasugarn, etc who've been around forever, have a bland game and never accomplished anything spectacular.

But actually, i find some of the men more boring. Davydenko and Ferrer kill me. Dementieva, Chakvetadze and Vaidisova are a snooze, neh, i miss henins variety. Her game was never boring. ANd its fun to see masha bash the shit out of a ball ha ha.

Though I have an incredible respect for Justine's talent, I do agree that I found most of her matches boring to watch. Doesn't mean I know nothing about tennis like some mindless poster assumed, it's just not my cup of tea and would just make me yawn.

Out of the top 50 right now, players that can bore me include: Anna Chak, Svetlana (mostly personnality wise, but some of her matches were so sad), Radwanksa (wins the boredom contest in my case), Mauresmo.

I do understand how some people can enjoy the variety-type players, but I really don't. Nothing better than a hard-hit screaming down the line winner.

From the top players, it's Hantuchova. She's just so slow! I know Lindsay and Sania are slow too, but their groundies are so much fun to watch!

And as much as I like Dementieva, sometimes watching her play could put me to sleep! Everything is cross court, especially the backhand!

And Mauresmo. I like watching floaters, but when they constantly land short, it's dull cuz it's easy to hit winners off them.

None of you seem to have been following tennis long, because there are very few bores these days compared to the 1980s or 1990s! Tennis is so competitive, look at how Serena and Sveta struggled to get past round one.

In the 1980s, there were so many boring matches because the early rounds of tournaments were just cakewalks for Martina Navratilova and Steffi.

Going to Wimbledon, in the early 1990s, my heart would sink when I got these on my court 2 schedule:

Mary Jo Fernandez - nice person but yawnsome to watch
Amy Frazier

I never liked Barbara Potter in the 1980s or Ros Fairbank or Andrea Jaeger.

I find early round matches featuring Lindsay Davenport a bore - she only gets interesting in the second week!

are we talking about the way they play tennis? then people mentioning henin make me laugh out loud.

i'd go for sub-davenport-ballbashers, there's too many to mention.

There is nothing wrong with Lindsay and her ball bashing it beats the hell of 200 shot moon ballers any day and at least when you get a transcript of one of Lindsay's post match interviews there's a lot of thoughtful and intelligent answers in there.:)

It's not that bad. It's fun to watch Lindsay put in very little effort and her opponent is going 100 miles an hour just to try and keep up and I like quick matches in the first week as it gets Lindsay going for second week but unless you're a fan like me your point is well taken. :)

All the stupid lower ranked players.

Enough said of your tennis knowledge.

I disagree with the 90s part, it was a great decade with Graf/Sanchez/Seles (would have been even more than interesting hadn't she been stabbed).
But it is obviously a subjective point of view, as i admit if you had low ranked faves, it was quite hard to wish seeing them winning.

But then again with the arrival of Hingis,Davenport, the WS,Henin, Clijsters first as outsiders, the competition was not boring, at least not for me. I wouldn't trade this era for anything.

Great post! Remember the old school moonballers? Andrea Jaeger almost made me quit watching tennis.

As far as game style is concerned I find borind all those Vaidisova-like players who think the harder the better and have no more than 2 shots in their menu  Besides I never liked to watch Davenport.
Any match can be boring if the difference in levels is too high.
As for personality and attitude I say Ivanovic. She's so one-dimensional and her interviews are so boring. Either her English is so bad or she never has anything interesting to say.
I need to add that obviously I can't agree with those who point at Radwańska :) Maybe on court she's emotionless, as someone mentioned but that's what helps her win. Her game is diverse and entertaining especially when sh'e serving well, but maybe I'm not objective ;)

DEFINETLY KIRILENKO! Its horrible, its like she's just getting the ball over the net to the other side!

I agree with kasia_g, Radwanska is a great player, she has a wide variety of shots and I never get bored watching her, specially on clay when she send those breath-taking amorties (drop shots)

(...) I do understand how some people can enjoy the variety-type players, but I really don't. Nothing better than a hard-hit screaming down the line winner.

- "Big Mack, fries and coke please."
- "Would you like some ketchup with that?"
- "No, that would be too many things, but you can supersize it!"
- "Here you, go..."
- "Thank you; nothing beats McDonalds" :tape:

The most boring were Hingis and Martinez. In the top20, most clay court specialists were boring given the fact that they never made it to the later rounds in all the other 3 Grand Slams or failed to do more than live up to their seeding. Sandra Cecchini, Raffaela Reggi or the German Sabine Hack come to my mind. I absolutely loved Hack on clay, but it´s sad fact she even once or twice managed to play or came close to play in the Masters and therefore even scored points in playing indoors but always lost in round1 against nobodys. I was in Essen once and she lost to Hingis in her first or second year I suppose.

But yeah she is a mental midget though.

Well even if I disagree with you completely, we definately all have a right to an opinion.
I didn´t like Conchi´s style and I am sure others loved it.
And I loved Amanda Coetzer´s and Vicario´s and others always called them boring.
