... it will be the first time ever that both Williams sisters play a Grand Slam and neither gets further than the third round!

EDIT: Second time. AO'06.

They're getting old. And it's clay.

It'll be the most embarrassing day for the Williams family. Both out in the 3rd round to older players ranked outside the top 20. i.e. losses who are pretty much ranked where they are supposed to, not up and coming players.

Actually it did happen. The commentators are wrong.

AO'06. Venus lost in R1, Serena lost in R3.

at least she would protect her legacy that way
who wants her to lose 3rd round in wimbledon also
at least she will be remembered retiring as a defending champ
justine did the right thing retiring at the top

I just wish someone from the crowd would shout at Venus to get it together!! She needs firing up!

Anyway she's lost to worse than Pennetta before- Flavia is one of the best claycourters around.

All,

It will not be a shame or crime if Venus loses to Pennetta. I think she is trying - but her timing seems off. She won two matches in Rome - and that really was the extent of her match play this spring. I think for the clay surface, Venus does much better when she's played more matches before the FO.

Hopefully, she'll be ready to rumble in Wimby. I still can't get over how she almost lost in two of her first three matches last year - but ended up winning the entire enchilada.

Can I buy some crack off you?

Venus doesn't care about her legacy.
She cares about playing tennis.
She's a true champion.
Venus still has a lot more fight in her, she just needs to buckle down and start to show it.

Bah! Poor performances mean nothing on the whole. Serena will find her range ala Miami and Charleston, Venus tends to be disatrous on clay - leading to a fabulous fall.

No big deal.
