Excellent stuff from Dinara, hope she wins this tournament. Side note: Did anyone else notice that Dinara seemed to be taller than Sharapova when they shook hands at the net, I also remember Tracy Austin saying last year that Safina was taller than Austin's 6'2" husband. Could Dinara really be 6'3" or taller?

DINARA SAFINA: No, we stop with Heinz. My new coach is Zeljko Krajan.

I saw that too. It was weird cause I remember Dinara was taller than Maria when they were 16/17 years old, then Maria grew like 2-3 inches to 6'2" and Dinara was shorter. It looks like Dinara grew a little, but it could always be the shoes. HA

I watched it a 2nd time, and it's amazing how well Dinara played on key points in set 2.
And she just a very good player. But now she still has to do it again, against a totally different style of player. Then again, against a 3rd different style. Then a slam final.

Congratulations Dinara on amazing claycourt season. Beating 6 top10 players in just 2 tournaments is a great feat. I'm glad she proved she's the real deal. I agree. I think Dinara held it together quite well. A GS Final is different to anything else. There are the few who can win a GS final at their first attempt but many that don't. They can either never win a GA or use the expereince to become stronger for next time, just like Ana. Will be interesting to see which path Dinara follows.

Amazing run Dinara. Congratulations:bounce:

Congratulations Dinara on amazing claycourt season. Beating 6 top10 players in just 2 tournaments is a great feat. I'm glad she proved she's the real deal. As her supporter I felt really proud the way she played in Berlin and got to RG finals. I thought for a first time GS finalist, she did quite well. Who knows maybe she'll make it all the way a la Ana did this year. Good luck girl!
I love her speech too!:hug:

Oh, so sad she lost . Still think she deserved it. I mean - beating Sharapova, Dementieva and Kuznetsova really deserved a reward, didn't she? All these tough opponents and she finished just as a runner-up. Ana didn't deserve it, her easy draw was just 'come-and-claim-the-title'.

totally agree... ana had such a easy draw. Only jankovic and maybe schnyder were really hard. And Dinara had Kuznetsova, sharapova, dementieva.... So she could be very proud... maybe more than ana. :worship:

Shame about yesterday Dinara! But for me even though Ana got the trophy Dinara will always be the 2008 RG champion because she defied all odds knocked some of the biggest names out and played with passion and for me that is what makes you a true champion :D

All I can say is roll on Wimbledon because we have a new contender!!!!

Oaf = Marat, so feminine form from it is Oafette. :p

When you play a slam final, it's the biggest match in your life.
It's not easy to get to another.
The tour is a little weak now with Justine retiring at #1, but that doesn't mean Dinara keeps saving mp's at majors.
She has to improve to get to another slam final.
