Salunga-Landisville is a census-designated place (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Census-designated_place) (CDP) in Lancaster County (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancaster_County%2C_Pennsylvania), Pennsylvania (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsylvania), United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States). The population was 4,771 at the 2000 census. The name "Salunga" comes from the nearby Chiquesalunga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chickies_Creek) (now Chickies) Creek[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landisville,_Pennsylvania#cite_note-histlanco-0), which in turn is derived from the Lenape (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenape_language) "Chiquesalunga", meaning "place of the crayfish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crayfish)".[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landisville,_Pennsylvania#cite_note-indiannames-1) Landisville is named for John Landis, the first postmaster there.

Ahn defeats Marino for Koser title
Wins pro debut in Hempfield event

Two weeks ago, 15-year-old Kristie Ahn was hoping for a wild card into the Koser Jewelers Pro Circuit $10,000 tennis (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/tennis/) tournament at Hempfield Sports Complex (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/Hempfield%20Sports%20Complex/).
Sunday, she walked off with all the hardware — jewelry from the tournament sponsor, a check for $1,600 and six pro ranking points — after she defeated Rebecca Marino, the top-ranked junior player in Canada, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to win the first pro tennis (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/tennis/) event she entered.
"It's really exciting," she said following her victory. "I never would have guessed that this would happen."
It almost didn't. Ahn dictated the points early in the match, opening the court with sharp crosscourt ground strokes and making Marino run. But every time she broke Marino's serve, Marino returned the favor. She broke Marino for the third time in the set for a 4-3 lead, then consolidated the service break with another angled forehand winner and a down-the-line backhand laser.
Marino, however, has become accustomed to slow starts at this event. Each of her five matches went three sets, and she has trailed by a set in four of the five. In the second set, she began pounding serves and groundstrokes and drove Ahn off the baseline. She recorded four aces and two service winners to run away with the set.
"I was trying to be a little bit aggressive … and it worked," Marino said. "I tried doing that in the final set, but my serving just let me down."
That and the rabbit on the other side of the net.
After losing the second set, Ahn decided her speed was the antidote to Marino's power.

"In the third set, the key was to use my feet, especially on my serve," Ahn said. "Movement was really key so I could run everything down."

Her tenacity was such that she lost just four points in five service games in the set.
She broke Marino's serve with a hard inside-out forehand to take a 5-3 lead, then stuck to her game plan and "grinded it out" in the final game.
"Give her credit," Marino said. "She was playing really well. (Her) running everything down just wore me out.
"I'm really tired. Maybe if I hadn't gone three sets in one of those (matches) I would have been a little bit fresher."

Ahn is returning to school to finish her sophomore year at a private school in New York City, then is headed to Texas for two more professional events. After that, she plans to train in Barcelona, Spain, in preparation for the USTA (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/United%20States%20Tennis%20Association%20%28USTA%2 9/) Girls 18s Clay Court championships.

Marino, 17, was going to Hilton Head where she will practice on the clay for several days before flying to Paris for the junior French Open. She also has a spot in the junior Wimbledon (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/Wimbledon/) championships.
In doubles, the unseeded team of Audra Cohen (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/Audra%20Cohen/) of the United States and and Heidi el Tabakh (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/Heidi%20el%20Tabakh/) of Canada, defeated top seeds Anna Fitzpatrick (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/Anna%20Fitzpatrick/), Great Britain, and Stefania Boffa (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/Stefania%20Boffa/) of Switzerland, 6-3, 7-6(3).
Cohen, the No. 1 singles seed who lost in the first round of singles, told the crowd it was "good to end the week on an 'up.'"

She will return to this region in July as a member of the Philadelphia Freedoms World Team Tennis (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/tennis/) squad.

Fitzpatrick will be in the Wimbledon (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/Wimbledon/) doubles main draw and is playing in the singles qualifying.

Asides: Because both finalists were amateurs, ITF supervisor Missy Malool (http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/15/1/Missy%20Malool/) said the prize money ($1,600 for the winner, $1,000 for runnerup) is distributed among all amateurs on a per diem basis. Players can keep the amount they won based on their expenses.
