Managua is the capital (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital) city of Nicaragua (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicaragua) as well as the department (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Managua_%28department%29) and municipality (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Managua%2C_Managua) by the same name. It is also the largest city in Nicaragua. It is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Managua (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Managua). The city was declared the national capital in 1852.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Managua#cite_note-LP-1) Previously, the capital had alternated between the cities of León (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le%C3%B3n%2C_Nicaragua) and Granada (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granada%2C_Nicaragua). The city has a population of about 1,680,100; composed predominantly of Spanish-speaking criollos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criollos) (unmixed Europeans), whites (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Latin_American) and mestizos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mestizo).
Founded in 1819 and given the name of Leal Villa de Santiago de Managua, its original purpose was to serve as a rural fishing village.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Managua#cite_note-2) Efforts to make Managua the capital of Nicaragua began in 1824, after the Central American nations became independent from Spain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spain). Managua's location between the rival cities of León and Granada made it an ideal compromise site.
The city has been witness to the rise and fall of political powers throughout Nicaragua's history, and has suffered two devastating earthquakes over the course of the 20th century. Managua is the economic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic), political (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political), cultural (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural), commercial (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commerce) and industrial (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industry) center of Nicaragua.
In 2007, after a successful literacy campaign (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicaraguan_Literacy_Campaign#Literacy_campaigns_of _2005-2009), Managua was declared the first capital city in Central America to be rid of illiteracy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illiteracy).

What? OMG, it sounds, how can I say it? I think you don't like latinos. It is very important to popularize tennis in the whole world. I hope we have next year Nicaragua again and Costa Rica and Panamá.

Why in the world would you hope that it's canceled. All that does is deny opportunity for players to chase dreams, points, gain a new experience. So what if the draw isn't filled up this year. Maybe next year it will be, but at least there's an opportunity to carry a level of professional tennis to somewhere it's never been. Realistically speaking, I'm fairly certain that none of these players in Managua this year will ever hit the big time, but who cares. They're making an effort and they're having an opportunity. Furthermore, maybe there's some little girl in Managua who will see one of these players and get it into her blood that she wants to be a champion.

The whole point of these ITF challenger events is to take tennis to places it's never been. That's why the Grand Slams pour money into development funds. You've got to start somewhere, and this is a good place for Central America, which has been woefully left off the tennis development map.

I think your country flag is Austrian. Our different perspectives amaze me. When I first started watching tennis in the early 1970s, there obviously were far fewer opportunities to play. Even so, I loved the international flavor of this game and was always rooting for nations like Austria and Belgium to have genuine stars and opportunities for them to play at home. Finally, along came Muster, Wiesner, Paulus, Schett, and it was great to see! Then came other tournaments besides the one in Kitzbuhel. So come on, Xian! It's OK to put opportunity in places where it hasn't been before. Let's be happy for who is there and not worry about who's not there.

its no problem if it helps the local tennis community. But All those girls but Zuniga are probably rich girls as they can afford to come here. Most of them play all over the world too. This one tournament here doesnt help those girls. It doesnt help the local girls. One girl from Nicaragua entered ??? Hello, Im pretty sure there are more. I also like the idea that there should be tournaments in many more countries. In countries where tennis is popular and the demand for tournaments is there. Its obviously not in Nicaragua.
And the problem is the ITF. Their schedule is stupid as hell. Why should players travel for one tiny tourament there. Anyway its the same problem with some tournaments in Turkey or Israel. If a tournament is not having enough players to host a quali event, it just means it´s not attractive enough. Nothing more to say

I have to agree with you, the way the ITF placed this tournament is ridiculous. Just like most tournaments in South America, where we have a $10K player in Argentina and another in Bolivia at the same time. But still, it doesn't mean they should denie places like this to host a tournament of their own.

I'd rather see all of the Central-South America tournaments put together into a long tour rather than seeing them all over the place like they are right now. It would give this girls 2-3 months of competitive tennis without the need of spending much money, wich is the main problem most of the tennis players in these areas have.

Smart scheduling leads to a better variety in tennis. Or at least that's the way I see it.

I think it is very important to have tournaments in countries in which there is no support from the government, the enterprises or the federation.

Yes, having only one lost tournament is not a good idea, but at least the tournament exists. I think that it does not help very much, but, nevertheless, it is good that it is complimented with other tournaments in the country or in the bordering countries.

I think that this tournament is just the beggining of a future plenty of tournaments in the region. I hope so.

In my country, Chile, we have the same problem because tennis players only have two tournaments in the year. In february, the Cachantún Cup (U$ 200.000 in prizes)and in novembre we have an ITF (U$ 10.000). So, it really does not help a lot but at least it gives an opportunity to the players.

I would like to see the federation working in this area so that we can have, at least, three or four consecutive ITF U$10.000 tournaments. That's the way torwards a real development of tennis. And, also, I think that the regional federations should have a better communication, so they can propose regional circuits. For example, in the ATP we have a lot of Futures in Africa, one or two per country but consecutive and connected with one or two from other bordering countries.

Well, it is a very profound theme, but this is my brief opinion.

Greetings!!
