Eggy, I guess Dasha needs to get used to playing in America. Her performances have been surprisingly poor in America. Do you think she is uncomfortable playing here?

Nov 15th, 2001, 03:58 PM
Not much is expected of Dasha .... but still an early loss is not good.

Tatiana's loss can be explained this way. She hasn't played much lately. Has she? So she's not in her best form. And she's only 13 for heaven's sake. But I hope she finds her form for the Eddie Herr and Orasnge Bowl. Udachi Tatiana!

Eggy, who is Julia Koulbitskaya? Is she Russian? Or, Russian turned American?

Nov 16th, 2001, 08:05 PM
She's American but of Russian origin.

To be honest with you, I am not surprised with Golvin's loss. She was too young to start playing in the 18s in my opinion. She should have started playing in January when she turns to 14 but she already did. Sorry but it's too young.

Maria made a smart move to wait a bit longer before she started playing. Maria's team are taking the time to adjust what is the best for her. Excellent move made by her team.

Good luck to Golvin in 2002. I don't think she will make a noise early in the first half of 2002 but maybe the second half.

sharky, it might be true what you said about Golovin. But if you saw this girl, physically she is definitely developed as 15 or 16-year-old. Masha is a lot more fragile and looks a lot more of her age than Tatiana.

Sharky, 13 year old Tatiana Golovin won an 18u title last summer. Her father, Gregori, was a hockey player for the Russian National hockey team. So, her pedigree says she will be a tremendous athlete. That's probably why she started playing the 18's at the very tender age of 13. Maria may be more talented and mentally tougher than Tatiana. But Tatiana will certainly be bigger and stronger than Maria. And in women's tennis, bigger and stronger is crucial. Let's hope Maria can gradually put on some weight. She's going to need it. Udachi Maria and Tatiana!

tatiana's ranking would also differ with your statment....consistently around top 50.....that would be a top 50 18 and under player at the age of 13...
