I doubt she'll struggle vs. Garbin/Bondarenko, and Radwanska isn't a big deal lately, Anna managed to beat her in Dubai when Aga was playing at her top and Anna was struggling, I doubt Anna's got worse from there, while Aga's results have lowed a bit. I saw Anna will reach QFs at least. Davai!

I just want Anna to get some results in singles. Doesn't matter who she plays first. It's just the mental side of closing out the match.

Still a more respectable result than I expected. I wish I could have been there to see two of my faves playing together for the first (and only?) time. :awww: I wonder what their partnership was like.

Anyway, it's hard for me to take doubles seriously with that annoying "no ad scoring" rule. From what I've seen, it tends to make the outcome of games a bit too random for my taste (not to mention it kills much of the drama of tennis).

Anna and Nicole playing doubles. :haha: Two struggling players hoping to get some match practice I suppose. At least the score was close.

Garbin is tough on clay. Even if she's playing two matches on one day I still think she can beat Anna. It doesn't take much to beat her these days anyways.

The clay season couldn't end soon enough for Anna.

Sorry for being so pessimistic. I know this is supposed to be a cheering thread. :o

Anna is finally stringing consecutive wins together. And with Ivanovic out she plays Pironkova next which I'd say is easier although I'm not raising my expectations too high.

Is Anna finally working her way out of her slump?

I really like the score of that third set. Anna has been finishing well. It's a shame she likes to take a nap for a set. I'd like to see her dominate a match start to finish, back to her old ways.

And now she finds a bit of good fortune with Serena withdrawing. Though Cornet isn't much more of an easy prospect. Alizé really loves this surface and she's been having great results which must mean she's riding high with confidence. Still it's an opportunity for another Tier I final. Of course I doubt this will do anything to make Anna's haters in GM change their tune.

In terms of rankings Anna is currently in line for #6. If Venus does better than Anna here she will overtake her.

Excerpt from:

Serena Williams pulls out of Italian Open with back problem
By ANDREW DAMPF

ROME (AP) - In the semifinals, Cornet — last year's French Open junior champion — will meet sixth-seeded Anna Chakvetadze, who held off Bulgarian qualifier Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Pironkova notched the biggest win of her career Wednesday when she upset top-seeded Ana Ivanovic, and she appeared out of energy in the third set.

Chakvetadze was trying to figure out what went wrong for her in the second set.

"I don't know what happened with me," she said. "I felt like I was playing against myself.

The match was characterized by long baseline rallies, and both players had their right shoulders checked by a trainer at various points.

"Hopefully the trainer will help me today after the match," said Chakvetadze, who won the seventh title of her career at the Paris Indoors in February.

Way to go so far Anna! Great come back in round 2 and great close outs in the last two 3 set matches. :)

Good luck Anna in the Semi-finals! Rest that shoulder until then.

Anna playing good on clay is great to see, it has always been a surface that I thought should suit her style of play. She could stand to be a bit more mobile, but the slower pace really should help her be more accurate on those nice measured shots of hers. Let's ride this momentum right into a French Open Final! :bounce:

I wouldn't say Anna gave up. She just stopped concentrating on the match. It was all too easy for her up to 3-0 in the second. And once she started with the mistakes Alizé just got her confidence. Anna was able to regroup in the last two matches but this time it cost her. This is a really frustrating loss. Anna had this one in the bag.
