Mini Report:

I finally saw Maria play, and she was impressive. Nice groundies, very consistant. She definitley resembles Anna K. Maria was in control of the whole match and her volleys seem pretty good. I was really surprised by how good Yue Qing played. She was in total control of the match. Her forehand seemed really good. She was hitting a couple of tough winners with it.

Oct 12th, 2001, 04:39 AM
thanx for the report, Maria is very good , hopefully she WILL live up to her hype.

Oct 12th, 2001, 05:21 AM
Yes, Maria is the future. She's just cruising in the touney...I see her holding the trophy now already!

Oct 12th, 2001, 05:32 AM
Hey Eggie, thanks for posting the updated draws! Very much appreciated. On a a sad note, I am so sorry that Alexandra lost.

I fully expect Maria to win. This tournament is too easy for her but I am glad that she is playing anyway. It's a good practice for her. Playing a G5 Jr tournaments means she is serious about nothing but tennis.

Hey Aloha, thanks for giving us a report. A few questions for you if you don't mind. Did you take a chance to take some pictures of Maria? What did she wear today? Hope some new line of Nike tennis apparel for the fall season. I really dislike the Nike outfits during US Open. Her hot red top and white skirt was my favorite Nike outfit so far for this year (this spring). Did you enter this tournament for free? What are her strengths and weaknesses? I think her strengths from what I heard since a year are her backhand, flat groundstrokes and maybe her serve. And her weaknesses are forehand and hmmm, I don't know yet! Aloha, please don't tell me that Maria plays like Anna (I will cry if it's true! ) I want her to be like Martina H. or Monica Seles or Graf or Venus!

Aloha, thank you in advance if you answer my questions.

GO GO MARIA She will prevail for her 2nd Jr title. I can't wait for her to play in Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl. Plus, I can't wait for her to turn 15 next April before she starts play more and more in jr and some pro events.

Maria will enter into the top 100 in the juniors after playing only 4 tournaments if she wins (she WILL!)! Pretty good stuff to start a career for Maria.

Aloha, will you go there tomorrow again? If so, give us another report! We all will appreciate very much!

I believed she wore a white skirt and a blue shirt. Sorry I wasnt able to take pictures. I didnt see enough to really tell what her strengths were because she was just dominating the match, but her backhand seem to be her strength. Her serve was good, but it was a little shaky at times, but i was really impresses with her volleying skills. As for speed she seemed fast, getting a lot of balls back. Her play somewhat resembled Anna, but not really. I'll have to see her play more to evaluate her game, but the future looks bright.

Good win for Qing Yue!

Aloha, can you tell me more about her?
All I know is about her is that she's 14, and was part of the Chinese team in the World Junior Tennis Championships.

Does she hit hard?
How strong is she physically?

Hope she gets to the finals.
BTW, is Melissa Mang Asian and Preethi Mukundan of Indian descent?

Here's a pic of Qing.

Good news for Asian tennis fans Yue Qing won 6-4 6-2 (or 6-3) She was very impressive. She hit the ball semi hard but i dont see her as a hard hitter. She is a baseliner.

Maria also won 6-2 7-6. She hit a lot of backhand winners. She even got a couple of aces in.

Yes, indeed Maria played amazing tennis. She also hit an incredible shot. She hit an incredible one handed backhand that was just amazing. Everything was going right for her, Yue Qing was never in the match.

B and A, thanks for the reports! I thought Maria played like Anna Kournikova. Flat ground strokes and a shotmaker. Maria even looks like Anna! Yabba dabba doo! Thanks for letting us know, besides resembling Anna, she plays like Anna. Sharky, before you faint, I'll admit that Maria isn't the second coming of Anna. She gets publicity for being the next Anna because of their similar backgrounds and looks. And the media just wants to write anything that will get attention. Don't worry about Maria being compared to Anna. But when they meet up in a match, the fur will fly! You can bet Anna will be ready to try and give Maria a thrashing! I'm sure Anna doesn't like have someone as beautiful as Maria being compared to her. I'm so pleased Maria has had such a good start to her 18u career. Now she needs to play the better competition. Udachi Maria!

congrats 2 maira on winning this title, good luck in the eddie herr championships & in the orange bowl

Congrats to Maria!
I already saw that Maria would cruise through this event when I saw the draw. I mean she was the #1 seed and we all know that the other players aren't on Maria's level of play. Besides....it was a Grade4 tournament....

Oct 16th, 2001, 02:16 AM
it was a grade4? ill believe shes one of hte next big things when she wins grade a or grade 1, or has a strong showing at one. maybe im biting my tongue without checking her other result first. however, olga puchkova has similarly done very very well in grade 4 and 5, thought not winning in snigles yet she has you know been very good into the quarters and semis and whooping ass in doubles, cus shes the best ind oubles, IM IN LVOE!!!

nonetheless, good job maria. but as a tip, dont mess iwht anna.

NejedlyKanepi, Why are you knocking Maria? She is very smartly playing tournaments with mediocre fields. That's how you build confidence. I don't think anyone thinks she's ready to handle Kaia and Svetlana right now. Give her 6 months and another 10 pounds, and she'll be ready. Udachi Maria!

Oct 16th, 2001, 11:42 PM
i was just bitter for her being a better singles player than olga, 3 tournmaents and already a higher rank than olga! *note, olga still has the doubles edge* and shes also said some very harsh things about anna kournikova which i think someone like her, who actually knows something about tennis, shouldnt be saying. like ive said before, dont mess with anna.

NejedlyKanepi, Maria speaks her mind. She doesn't want anything bad, like injuries, to happen to Anna. She is always asked about Anna. And the writers never print anything good she says about Anna. Do they? Maria is getting alot of valuable experience in the 18u. Kaia Kanepi better be ready. Because the next time Maria plays Kaia, the "Russian Lynx" is going to make Kaia her prey! Udachi Maria!

Maria is very good , hopefully she WILL live up to her hype
Yeah, unlike Anna

Oct 21st, 2001, 02:24 AM
other than peaking at 8 in singles, and 1 in doubles as a year end rank, anna hasnt lived up to her hype because she cant play tennis, shes so bad shes only been in the top 10 in the whole entire world and shes so bad shes never beat davenport or capriati or hingis or been #1 doubles and consistant top 5.
