I was in the process of buying tickets to go to Jackson Hole, Wyoming tonight. I got side tracked for about 30 minutes with a phone call. When I refreshed the page, the price jumped up $300! :fiery: Needless to say I won't be going there this summer. :fiery::fiery::fiery::fiery::fiery:

(a) Keep trying online; (b) try a consolidator site like sidestep.com; (c) call the airline you want to use and talk to an agent. You should be able to work it out; but you do have to persevere.

well you know the thing is that I have to go directly through the airlines because I have a $248 credit from a canceled trip last year. The price was $335 around 8 pm... then by 8:30 it shot up to 700ish after taxes. :banghead:

Well, that means there was one or two seats at that fare, and somebody took them in the 90 minutes. But it could be a reservation only and the people will change their minds and the fare will return. Or try one day earlier/later on both ends. A good reservation agent really should be able to help you best, and might be able to find something you can't - because they have some tricks.

For ex, is it nonstop or a connection? Probably a connection, and probably three legs still have the lower fare and the other leg got sold out at that fare. The agent might be able to work around that, or at least tell you which leg is the problem one so you can try it yourself.

It usually depends on the number of seats taken at certain prices....try again with a different number of passengers or a different flight time

there's only one flight a day that goes there and I have tried all different combination of dates. Some strange things I noticed... the flight I would have booked has a connection in Minneapolis. If I wanted to go to Minneapolis directly and stay for a couple of days it would have been 650 something. For 335 at the time I could have booked the flight with a layover there and just not have gotten on the connecting flight and saved myself 300 bucks. It's insane.

PM me your airline, travel dates, and departure city. I will see what I can do.

If you think this is bad, try booking a flight to the Caribbean .The outrageous prices will make you want to shoot your left foot  You literally have to stalk the websites for the best prices---I've noticed that Wednesday is the best day for the lowest fares

Sally, I tried everything. One ticket instead of three, leaving from (nearby city) to Jackson, (preferred city) to Idaho Falls, every day combination within your timeframe, consolidator sites, Sky Auction, Lastminute.com. There simply are no flights anywhere close to the $350 range, from any airline. Northwest's fare is in line with what the other arilines are offering.

Last ditch effort you might call the airline and see if a helpful reservation agent can give you any ideas.

Sorry I couldn't do better.

thanks for trying

Although I must say I had little faith that you would have found something that I did not

It's ok though. We're discussing other options. The problem with that route is that there's only one flight a day per airline usually so there's not much competition. Damn my aunt for calling when I was booking :fiery:

Dead. Why don't you just delete your internet cookies, clear your cache, and search for the same flight again. Those websites often track your computer so that you never get the same deal twice.

It's not the cookies. I thought it was too. It is an actual jump in rates as the plane gets more full.

Update.. the insanity continues:

It turns out I can get a flight for $362 if I decide to drive 150 miles to another airport to catch a plane that will fly me to my home city airport to hop on the same plane I would have if I stayed in my home city and flew direct. If I want to fly from home city to destination it's $607.
