Εντυπωσίασε η Εύα Ασδεράκη στο Australian Open
http://tennisnews.gr/images/asderaki_roumeliotis.jpg

simply said eva is an experienced umpire even though she is only 28. Eva said it is not easy for a woman to be the chair umpire as some players are very emotional, but as a chair umpire, they need to be fair to both players.
and she likes to dress up, like shopping, she smiled and told us that the players are now more and more fashionable clothes, and the referee's clothes are more beautiful.

Cyprus has a Greek side and a Turkish side and Baghdatis is from the Greek side. Cypriot is a nationality. Greek is a nationality and an ethnic term. Baghdatis' nationality is Cypriot, but he is an ethnic Greek ;). Basically it's like someone from the same country in the chair as Greece and Cyprus share the same language, national anthem, etc. The Greek flag is a national symbol in Cyprus and many Cypriot citizens claim that they are Greek and NOT Cypriot. They were going to unite with Greece, but then Turkey invaded, etc. ;)

From the 2010 WTA Rulebook, Code for Officials:

(g) Officials must maintain complete impartiality with respect to all players at all times. An official must not officiate in any match in which he/she has a relationship with one of the players that might be considered a conflict of interest. The perception of a conflict shall render an official unsuitable for such an assignment.

Officials shall not socialize with or become intimate with players, or enter into any relationship or take any action that casts doubt on his/her impartiality as a tennis official. However, officials are not prohibited from staying in the same hotels as players, nor from attending social functions at which players may be present.

Certified officials must register any potential conflict of interest with ITF Officiating. This includes when a certified official is a professional tennis player, National Tennis Coach, a National Tennis Team Captain, or a close friend, relative or coach of a professional tennis player. They should also register the fact that they work for a company that has a commercial interest in tennis, or as a Tournament Director/Organizer.

and the USTA Policy on Chair Umpire Assignment:

(f) Nationality of the Chair Umpire. Notwithstanding other qualifications, the US Open Chief Umpire and US Open Tournament Referee will not assign a Chair Umpire to a match if one (but not both) of the players in the match is of the same nationality as the Chair Umpire.

I don't see anything wrong since they're definitely of different nationalities

P.S. Eva chaired Lena's final match last night... I'm still in shock :tears:

That means the final is between

Alison did the US Open in 2009. Eva's last final in grand slam singles was 2008 Australian Open mens final - why do they overlook Eva, when she is the best - is it because she is a "players" umpire - i.e very popular with the players

I really want Eva to get a final, she should have been given Wimbledon last year. I think Alison Lang is right up there with Eva as the best. Maybe Eva will get the men's final and they were grooming her for it in the Nadal Ferrer match.

Today in ATP Land, Eva chaired Novak-Lopez and probably had one of the most amusing overrules I've ever seen. Lopez challenged and it caught the back of the line by the fuzz; I'm not exaggerating  The entire stadium laughed and Eva's expression was just like "I'm awesome." Fun times.

Has she chaired a Davis Cup match recently? The last one I can recall is the 2008 Switzerland vs Belgium WG playoff

Eva isn't at any of the DC ties... guess she's heading straight to IW then :wavey:

Eva currently in the chair for Nadal's domination of De Voest. Can she stop doing men's matches?

It's a good sign though, it means she's getting respect as an umpire.

Today she chaired Karlovic vs. Montanes and Montanes was so annoying he lost the point and then wanted to challenge Karlovic's serve and Eva wouldn't let him. Eva did the right thing :yeah:

Eva opening proceedings on Night 1 in Miami with Safina-Dokic. Well, I'm 95% sure it's her. The sound is a little grainy but her voice is distinctive enough that I could tell.

Eva did JJ-McHale yesterday. Have a feeling she'll get the final since I don't think the home town hero Lynn Welch is here.

EDIT: Lynn is here, but she's doing Lena V - Peng. I'd say pencil in Eva for the final?

I was one of her first 30 or so FB fans back in 2009

Nice to see that she's gaining worldwide popularity as a chair umpire. Soon she'll be on par with Mohamed Lahyani who has 1545 fans :p

Found this page on Google. It's from Wimbledon last year. It's probably geared to kids because it's the CBBC, but I still wanted to watch it; but it's not available in my territory.:bs: What does that even mean?

^^ Nice catch there :yeah:

I don't think she's at any of the Fed Cup ties now. She might still do Stuttgart, but she skipped the 2010 edition IIRC

...if only umpires would announce their tour schedules like the players do

Just saying since she's off this week apparently, but Eva's twin is in Morocco right now. Watching Pivovarova-Shvedova and I swore it was Eva doing the match, but it's not; her voice is different. Don't know who she is though.
