I did feel kind of bad for her though. The crowd was so violently rooting for her (to a point where they were being very rude to Vera) and she let them down. But hey, I was clapping for her double faults in response to the rest of the crowd jeering Vera and everything.

lol, the irony indeed. Jelena:hug: Maybe she's just frustrated with her game.

Is she have some pain in 3rd or use medical time-out or something like that? She won only about 40% points at her first serve in 3rd set. And all that only one week after Miami where she maybe served better than ever in her career

No there was no injury timeout or anything. I think she was more upset at a call in the second to last point. She hit a backhand down the line that was clearly out to me but of course she had to get the umpire to go look at it. The umpire couldn't find a mark but had to let the original call stand. Jelena got upset and the crowd started booing (at the umpire). There is a picture of her arguing with the umpire on Yahoo!

I didn't see that. I wish I did. The JJ fans to my left were SO obnoxious. And yes, the crowd bordered violently rooting for JJ, although I was very loud for Vera in response.

When you see that two guys support one girl and rest of crowd (couple thousands) supported other girl - that is sure sign that this two guys is...

I'm a big Vera fan, of course I'm going to be loud and root for her. I was louder and more emotional for Elena, who was also the crowd underdog.

I didn't mean to have anything negative implied for wanting to see her cry, I guess. I mean. You can't turn your eyes away when something like that is going on, it adds drama.

And the JJ fans to my left WERE irritating. I had to hear "YES MA'AM!" in a nauseating disgusting Southern accent every time JJ hit a winner. And while I was applauding points Vera was winning that didn't end as winners, loudly I guess, they started talking "amongst themselves" about doing stuff like that isn't tennis etiquette.

I don t feel bad for JJ she s said last year ifeel like the nr 2 in the world.. IMO she s just a top 10 player not even top 5.. so she was just overconfident last year:) and now she faces .. the reality.. it s sometimes hard.

Quit whining Dvorak. You get a minority of morons courtside with most fan bases. You have obviously never sat through a James Blake match. :help: Sure, some of the Serbian fans overdo it (Ivanovic as well as JJ) - they need to be told to shut up by the umpire or escorted off the premises.

Sounds like JJ was upset not defending her title here, this defeat is gonna sting for a few days - good. Time to move on and get ready for the red stuff.

It was just a couple of ladies. The rest of the crowd I didn't care about, but to my immediate left, those bitches were getting on my nerves. And I could sit through a JB match any day if I could see him really well. :hearts:

JJ will do well for the rest of the clay season. From the perspective of a JJ fan, why does this loss hurt so much? I honestly don't understand right now.

Vera was always going to be tough (this IS her best surface), and it's not like she's some scrub challenger. There are far worse players to have a stinging loss to. Like Yan Zi and Li Na. It just seemed like a lot of JJ fans are really bothered by this, even including Jelena, and it was puzzling to me. Vera is a VERY good player. That's why I don't know why it hurt so bad. Losing to a top fifteen, possible top ten later this year, player at the peak of her powers isn't...

Why do I bother. I know when Elena loses to a top 10/20 player, it isn't as bad as it could be unless she blew a lead or something. But since that isn't the point for why this loss hurts, then excuse me.

Sorry Ludwig. You know, I only wanted to say, that every single fan and supporter of Jelena is of course extremely sad today. And we are sad in general and not because of all people she lost against Vera. No way. Vera is a good player, no doubt and it was not my intentation to take something away from her. You know, we are sad, sad in general, because Charleston was really something special last year and now we are in vale of tears. Let us suffer, but fair congrats to Vera.

I'd say she REALLY wanted to defend her title and realises she had a good chance to (she was probably the best clay-courter in the draw, at least on green). Also she probably wanted to get the clay season off to a flying start as she had her two biggest successes on clay last year. She's doing well so far this year and big wins on clay could have really consolidated that and with JH possibly out of form she does have a chance for RG this year (at least a bigger chance than last year) and if she dominates the season that would make things easier for her in Paris but she has shown some vulnerability early on. I really think she is driven to get that slam and she has her eye on RG 08.

Her ass should have beencry she was the only person in the tourny that could have beaten Serena on clay and she fucking blew to Vera. R U KIDDING ME!!!!! She better get it together for rome because she has a lot of points to defend and she is gonna need them to stay in the top ten.

I don't see what's so funny about Jelena crying. The good thing is, that she's one of the best clay courters I've ever seen the pleasure of watching but the most unfortunate thing is, does she know how good she is on the surface? If she was a little bit mentally stronger than she could do wonders. She's got the talent. Hope she doesn't dwell on this loss too long and that she moves on. Come on Jelena, you can do it.

I believe Jankovic with bounce back pretty quickly after this loss.
She'll have to in order to mentally prepare for RG.
These kinds of losses are hard though (having just come off a good run at Miami), but it's a learning experience and she'll just become that much more stronger. :wavey:
