Good opportunity for both to make the final. I think Elena may have the slight edge even though Zvonareva took out Jankovic.

Dementieva in three sets.

Vera is so underrated. She's done fantastically this year, but kind of under-the-radar... Vera in two.

I really do hope Zvonareva. If she wins this she'll be much closer to replace Dementieva at the Olympics:D

Well, well, well.
Zvonareva keeps alive her chances at the Olympics.

The doubters said she wouldn't even defend her Charleston points.
She has.

And now an opportunity. I mentioned that a factor in Vera catching up to Elena would be to kick her ass every time she gets a chance to to prevent Elena from accumilating point which would help in catching up.

Kick her ass Vera.

Vera was amazing against Jankovic, but she's never beaten two top ten players in a row in her career. This is her best chance to do it--on her best surface against a player who has been fairly shaky this week.

I want Elena to win my home tournament, of course, but I won't hate Vera if she wins.

I want Elena to win my home tournament, of course, but I won't hate Vera if she wins. When she last time beat Jelena (summer of 2006) - she beat Serena on that tournament also (i notice yesterday that fact). Serena and JJ is not so hot like now in that time, but win is a win. Perhaps in 2004 (her best season so far) she also have some double-good wins from Jankovic/Dementieva level.

Her career best tournament was in Berlin some year, 2004 probably. Beat Myskina and other good players.

On a HC I'd go with Elena 9/10 times against Vera, I'd even say 10/10 if Elena weren't so unpredictable, but this is clay after all. Vera has been amazing in three set matches this year, Elena would need to beat her in two, I think...

This season she is totaly fit (her 3rd sets stats is better than ever by far which also means that she is mentaly stronger also) so maybe except HC she will be again good claycourter. Actualy this tier-I SF with seasons first TOP10 win is already big success for her even if she lose tommorow.

If Bepa wins she`ll be better than Sveta in 2008. and reach top5 on WTA race list. She is already better than Justine. :worship:

Lena in straights.
Like Ludwig said Zvonareva has never showed she is capable to defeat two top-players in the same tournament.

I've heard the court is playing fast, so if Elena uses her FH, she can employ some hard court style game. Would love Elena to win, but like Vera also. Whoever wins this semi to take the title I hope!

Good luck Elena ;)

Hopefully Lena can win.

Vera sucks against fellow Russians in big matches though, and Lena is great on green clay.

Well, if Lena D. wins it will prove she is only the third biggest headcase on the tour, after Peppermint Patty and Bepa.

This time I think it's a case of the neurotic vs. the manic depressive. If Bepa's in manic mode, she can win. If she's shifted to depressive, Lena should win easily.

Seconded! Unless there is a major turnaround in the form of all three players I think these two need to be in the team and Chakvetadze needs to be booted out.

As for who will win. I think Dementieva, maybe 7-6, 6-3. Dementieva might have a slight mental edge on Zvonareva and doesn't stall as much in semis. Plus she probably has the edge on clay but who knows. I'd say it will be tight enough and both did well to defeat their clay-court opponents in the quarters.
