I thought Charleston points came off last week, so if anything, Jelena added points with her QF here:shrug: I'm no expert on the system though so I'm probably wrong. Congrats to Maria, she deserves to be back in the top 3.

I'd sure hate to be defending a lot of points on clay this season. Sharapova and Serena are both looking good (compared to last season) on clay, and HEALTHY. The top 6 players should be pretty much set after the French.

Mikey B
Apr 19th, 2008, 08:23 AM
woo! still climbing the rankings!!! many people predicted she'd be number 2 by the french, if she has success at the european tier 1s then there's no doubt thats where she'll be! nice birthday present!

Apr 19th, 2008, 11:23 AM
Good on ya Masha. I'm hoping she will do reasonably well in the clay season and at Wimbledon to secure the #2 spot. I expect Ana to maintain the majority of her points for the clay season because she is in great form, so she will most likely hang on to the #2 spot till at least Wimbledon. With some good showings in the clay court season Serena could begin the climb up the ranks as well and take some of the higher positions. I'm scared for JJ tho... she has so much to lose over the next couple of months

That will happen pretty soon.

Apr 19th, 2008, 11:32 AM
Yeah . Congrats Maria.

But i'm a bit worried about her semi-final points form last year at RG... There are some good and dangerous clay court players out there ike Sveta, Henin, Jankovic, Serena and Ivanovic...

s_j
Apr 19th, 2008, 11:45 AM
After Berlin, Maria will definitely be #2. The only way for that not to happen would be for Ana to win the title again and for Maria to get knocked out in the first round or something. And I think that's when the RG seedings are set too? I'm not sure.

Emina.
Apr 19th, 2008, 11:47 AM
anyways, she should play both Berlin and Rome imo.

The way I see the seedings being is:

1) Henin
2) Sharapova
3) Ivanovic
4) Kuznetsova
5) Jankovic
6) S Williams
7) V Williams
8) Chakvetadze

Hopefully, the QF will be:

Henin v S Williams
Kuznetsova v V Williams
Ivanovic v Jankovic
Sharapova v Chakvetadze

(From a Maria fan point of view lol)

doesnt matter if they are.. maria proved that in australia... i personally would love to see that again, but with maria almost gauranteed a number 2 seeding at rg it wont happen... she needs to beat the top seed at a slam to win it, wimbly, the us and aussie open, at all of them maria beat the top seed.. bring on henin i say!!

It seems like Maria has been winning like everything and she is 'only' number three. Wither her from she should be challenging Henin. Mind you, Serena should be way up there aswell :o

Mikey.
Apr 19th, 2008, 02:28 PM
I would love to see Maria-Justine at the FO... hopefully in the later rounds. It would be a good test to see how Maria is improving on clay. I'd hope Justine was playing well though, because it would be pretty tragic for her to play terrible and lose to Maria on clay in straights or something.

No. I hope Maria has to prove herself on clay playing someone better than Chakvetadze. That's essentially a walk-over for Maria. I don't think Chakvetadze will be defending her Roland Garros points anyway.

Apr 19th, 2008, 03:28 PM
I hope she's back to #1 soon. Not that I have anything against Justine, but Maria is the best player in the world right now. The ranking should reflect that.

Get back up there, Maria.

Agreed. I don't want any clay cakewalks. If Maria wants to prove herself on clay she needs to begin to challenge the better clay courters. Yes, she did play surprisingly well against Serena yesterday and we all know Serena is the better player at the moment, whichever surface it may be. But I would like to see her push the likes of Justine, Ana or JJ on clay. Even if she loses playing to one of them in the quarters of the FO, I would just like to see her play a match with one of them to see how far she has progressed in her clay court training.

I think it would be nice for Serena to play Jankovic or Chakvetadze in the RG QFs. Sharapova should be the one to down Henin. It really doesn't matter, unless Serena has to play Henin again early or finds herself against Maria in the last eight. It'd also be hilarious if Venus makes the final four on clay, take that Ana.
