Well done Alize. 2nd straight SF on clay :) She also reached the Acapulco final, so she's doing well on the clay after that Bogota loss. Can't expect much against Serena but she has nothing to lose!

agnes still sucks.

Yeah, she sucks so bad she beat Lena earlier this year. Whatever, I like Agnes and Lena.

Impressive win from Alize -- more proof she has the best consistency of all the younger players. It looks like Agnes didn't do much against Cornet's serve. Has Alize improved her serve or did Agnes just "suck" at returning today?

This is just great!:D She made a tier1 semi:bounce:(she's not gonna win against serena) She's becoming a real threat on the clay though and can easily take out some seeds at RG with a decent draw. Good for her ranking also. I expect a lot from her this clayseason, there's definetly more to come! Impressive stuff. Wonder how she'll do on the red clay, which is even slower. Should benefit her play:)

wow i knew Cornet was going to be a force on clay after seeing her last year but I didn't think she'd improve this much in one year.

Alize will move up to #33 and some more wins will give her a RG seeding :)

Agnes simply hasn't managed to live up to the crucial situations. In the 1st set throwing her serve out to the trashbin from being 40-0 up after having earned a break of serve was really PAINFUL. :o

All praise to Cornet's consistency! She is one of the players to watch definitely. :wavey: And her 1st serve must have been really tricky today especially throughout the 1st set.

Alize will move up to #33 and some more wins will give her a RG seeding :)

That seeding is almost in the bag:D, a few wins on the european clay should cover that. A win against serena would be so much sweeter though:lol:(nah, thats just too much to ask right now. And a jankovic-serena on clay sounds sweet:drool:)

According to Cornet's official profile at the WTA site (http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/2/players/playerprofiles/Playerbio.asp?PlayerID=312121) she managed to pull off a win at RG 2005 when she was only 15 years old. That's quite impressive (even in WTA) to do against anyone at such a young age especially against an experienced one. So that kinda forcasted her future arrival at least for the claycourt events.

3 years ago when I first kept my eyes on her at RG, everyone around me said she was impossible to be successful.
But now,the success suddenly just hit on her, and I just don't know what to say!

Good girl. Against Serena, you have nothin' to lose. Just play your best.

Is anyone else surprised by her ranking and success? I only say this because the only times I ever saw her play were RG first rounds where she usually got spanked, so I never really thought she would be anything good. But all this success is awesome for her and French tennis, keep it up Alize!

Props to Alize :worship: have a great amount of respect for her ever since I watched her match live against Hantuchova at the AO. Don't be surprised if she makes it deep at RG :)

Alizé played so well! She was moving the ball around nicely and defending well. Her reaction was great and she was so happy. I am definitely a new fan of her's, she has been so nice the past two days.

Allez Alizé! Bonne chance against Serena! :hearts:

No. and the times that she lost in the early rounds of RG she was 15 or 16, and the fact that she beat two top 100 players to get to the second round each year is actually a pretty incredible thing considering she didn't spend her childhood in a bolliteri(sp?) style training camp.

Cornet is a french youngster who played a hyped match against Mauresmo in 2nd round of FO (she was 15 I think). She lost against Venus last year at FO but she wasn't ridiculous at all (just lacking some power) and reach 3rd round at USO as a qualifier but lost to Jankovic in 3 sets. Her best surface is clay and she made the semi last week.

Szavay had some very good results last summer : win in Palermo, final in New Haven (she was leadind Kuzne but injured herself and retired), 1/4 at USO and win in Bejing (beat Jankovic in final). She's struggling this year but still made the final in Paris.

I only saw the last few games of this match, but she looked better than what I saw against Krajicek and Errani. She looked like a boring retriever in those matches, but she was controlling the ball well and hitting some nice shots against Szavay. Her reaction to winning WAS great, and she did it right in front of the photographers, so I'm sure there are good pictures of it online somewhere. :)

The only thing that worries me about Alize is the level of success she's going to have off of clay. Bogota 1R, Acapulco F, Amelia Island SF, Charleston SF, and that's if she even loses to Serena. 12-4 on clay. That's great. Every other surface this year? Melbourne 2R, Paris [i] 2R, Miami 1R. 2-3. :tape:

Keep growing as a player Alize, you are going to be fun. But get better off of clay, please.

She can play out of clay too. She never seen a grass before last year's Wimbly, and then defeated Makiri at 1R (being ranked out of top100). She also had a decent run at last year's USO, when she thrashed Caroline Wozniacki (who is predestinated to be hardcourt speciaist), Samanta Stosur and gave a 3-set fight to JJ...
