Fed Cup Semifinal Nominations, Liezel Huber to Lead Team USA

The 2008 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas has announced its official team nominations for the April 26-27 semifinals.

Lindsay Davenport, as well as Venus and Serena Williams have decided to skip traveling to Russia for the upcoming tie, leaving doubles specialist Liezel Huber to helm Team USA.

Russian Fed Cup captain Shamil Tarpishchev is expected to field a powerful squad of Svetlana Kuznetsova, Anna Chakvetadze, Dinara Safina, and Elena Vesnina.

Sounds like Lindsay is still sick and doesn't want to travel while being sick.
Oh well, at least Linds won't be embarassed when Russian spanks the US. :p :o

If Lindsay had played she would've had to win two singles at least but I'm not totally surprised Lindsay has withdrawn. Without Lindsay the USA are toast.

Honestly, I think she skipped it cos the sisters skipped it, but I don't blame her, she's represented her country enough, and a trip to Moscow on clay is unnecessary.

Lindsay put herself in a really tough position in saying so equivocally that she was going to go and then finding herself on a horrendously weak team... I'm glad she's not going as it could well risk her pride, her drive, etc. Her illness gave her a good way out altho i'm sure that's not the reason.

Hope she plays Rome.

I also suspect that since her son has been sick, she wouldn't want to travel to Moscow with him as well she shouldn't. Perhaps Jon put his foot down!!

I don't think anyone going to know the truth until Lindsay says something and I think it's got nothing to do with being on a weak team and more to do with her illness or something else. The team that played Germany wasn't going to set the world on fire and Lindsay still played. With all the tennis Lindsay has played lately she made the right call not to go rest is the best thing for her right now.

Venus won't play she's out for a month, and perhaps more, the rumors say she could be pregnant

I don't like Venus Williams but what ever is wrong with her I hope it's not serious. If she was pregnant would she have said so by now?

Not always. Its personal preference if you are to tell people, many choose to wait until past the 1st trimester (as this is the most riskiest time). I don't buy the rumour though & it is just that until it is confirmed.

Will Lindsay still be able to play in the Olympics?

Yes Lindsay can still play in olympics as the rules state that you have to represented your country in Fed cup in two out of the four years prior to an Olympic year and Lindsay played fed cup in 2005. :)

I'm not buying it either.
