View Full Version : Who Will End 2008 With More Titles? Maria Sharapova or Serena Williams?

SAEKeithSerena

clearly, they are the two with the best start to the season so far. (i didn't credit Justine because of her lop-sided loss to maria and even more lop-sided loss to serena.) maria has 3 titles out of 4 tournaments to serena's 2 titles out of 3 tournaments.
so who will end up with the most number of titles at the end of the season?!?;)
i say serena, i think she is going to go on a tear here.:hearts:
what do you all think?:wavey:

I think Serena will too, but I don't think Maria will be far behind. The two of them will combine for over 15 titles though, for sure.

I voted Serena but that's just assuming she stays fit and healthy and plays a full schedule.

I don't know. Serena sure is in good form but it's not sensible to get too excited with her as she can take an injury any moment.

serena never plays more than 10-12 tournaments a year even if she is healthy

Maria will play more tournaments than Serena, so she will win more

Maria, and i am a Serena fan

Maria is training hard and seems very focused this year. So does Serena but i trust Maria to play more and be injury-free.

I think the person with the most will be either Maria, Justine of Ana. They all play full schedules and are likely to have racked up 4-5 more titles each.

Serena just doesn't play as much as those three so will probably not win as many as them. But after Miami I am sure she will win at least 1 GS this year.

As long as Maria wins the right 3 or 4 tournaments, I don't care about the others.
Let Lena or Sveta win the rest.

Sharapova simply because she plays more.

I'd say maria, she'd win at least 7 titles this year and i don't think serena can win more than 3 other titles...justine won't let her get past another GS QFs,we'll see!!!

:( Unfortunately, I would probably say Maria because she'll play more than Serena. I don't even mind the small titles as long as Serena comes prepared to take the big ones.:)

Hopefully Maria. But the number isn't as important as the level of the tournaments won. Quality over quantity. As GL said, as long as Maria wins the right tournaments...:)

But obviously both Maria & Serena are good candidates to win the most titles in the year. And even in her slump (by her standards of course), Justine is as well with already 2 in the bag.

Yeah, she's been in 4 Tours and Serena in 3 this year.

After RG then we can talk, deespite good performance so far, both girls are still quite vulnerable on clay. If serena wins wimby and /or US you can count her out of the fall tournies coz she will probably show up for the YEC after the USO.

You know...Maria impressed me in Oz obviously, but other than that, neither player has played well. Even in Miami, Serena wasn't playing a lot better than last year. Amelia Island was obviously a fluke for Maria. She was double faulting all the time and making errors and getting pushed to 7-6 in the third by nobodies. I don't know. Henin's playing like crap too.

well maria has obviously improved her game and health since last year, she's already won more titles this year than last.

but to me it doesnt really matter how many she wins as much as what she wins

I think that's true for both.

As to who wins the most, well probably who manages to stay healthy the most...

I just wish we could get 2 or 3 top players playing in good form for the same stretch were they meet often in finals and semi finals to have good rivalries. It seems like most of these players meet when one or both are sucking.

Blunt but true  That's why 99/00 was so good Lindsay/Martina Venus/Martina Venus/Serena were meeting reguarly.

hope we have that kind of finals match often..
it's hard to predict who will have the most title since this two players are becoming unpredictable
