Date of Birth: 15.3.1993. (Moscow)

Young Aleksandra living and training currently in Moscow (where she is borned) but will represent Serbia where she already compete and won under-12, under-14 and under-16 National Championships titles in past. Right now she is one of TOP10 ranked 1993 juniors in world (TOP150 overall in under-18 ITF junior competition) and together with 1991 Bojana Jovanovski she is right now most promising Serbian young WTA prospect and "player to watch" in global, not only in Serbia. She is also one of most promising young members of famouos Spartak Moscow tennis school and she won Russian Under-16 championship this year.

I know that is too early to talking about her senior-career future but so far juniors career of this girl is very promising and deserve to be mentoned. She is litle "out of radars" in Serbia b/c living in Moscow and maybe "out of radars" in Russia b/c she is Serbian player but she is maybe bigger prospect than other Serbian promising youngsters (Jovanovski, Curovic) or any of several 1993 upcoming players from Russia.

well, if her first results on itf circuit are anything to go by things look promissing. she reached the final of 10k prokuplje and lost just one set and served a bagel and 2 breadsticks on her way there. it's not a big tournament, but it's her first and she's only 15 so this is looking good.

*puts krunic on watch list*

Currently only British sensation Laura Robson, "Frenchy" Kristina Mladenovic and just other 4 girls younger than Aleksandra is better ranked. It's impressive fact because Krunic so far never compete at any big "Grade A" junior tournament (like any of slams or Orange Bowl for example).

Also, just for Serbian fans i want to give one my exclusive prediction. Dont be very surprised if Aleksandra already like teenager overtake Jankovic and Ivanovic (both TOP50, but never TOP40) in career high DOUBLES rankings which will be very important for our FED CUP chances when we finaly since 2010 will play in World Group I. She played so far just 4 grade 2 tournaments and in Doubles she won 3 out of this 4 (and she plays doubles with different partners) so no chances that is fluke or just coincidence. She is probably future real-deal for Doubles and very promising for singles. She will finaly debut very soon at "Grade A" juniors events which will be much better indication about her.

Talking about her Prokuplje success - she won her 1st ITF tournament younger than Ana or Jelena and this start of her professional career with win at 1st 10K tournament which she ever plays litle remind me at Vaidisova, Karantantceva or Paszek sensational careers start. Very good sign for sure.

In terms of expectations and achieved results - Aleksandra Krunic is "SERBIAN PLAYER OF THE SLAM" (AO/09)! She save MP in 1st round but survive and than won 6-2 2nd set against girls competition 2nd seed Ana Bogdan!

Ana Ivanovic on Aleksandra Krunic @ her blog:

"The press conference at the end of the tie was very funny. A very talented junior player, Aleksandra Krunic, was a non-playing member of our team, so she could gain some experience of the Fed Cup. She’s only 15 and she has a great sense of humour: she caused a lot of amusement when we faced the press.

A journalist asked me about my new coach. Before I had the chance to answer, Aleksandra said, “Didn’t you know? I’m Ana’s new coach.” Even the captain Dejan, whom off the court is a real joker but during press conferences is so serious, couldn’t help laughing at that."

Aleksandra again won in straight sets, but this time without bagel :smash: ;)

Her next opponent is British Naomi Broady which upset Julie Coin today. 1990 born Broady is about #300 in rankings, but since last november she is unbeaten on ITF tour (15+ matches winning strike) and if Alex lose against such opponent it will not be tragedy.

I hope that Krunic will play here doubles with Bojana Jovanovski (1st seed here and #1 favorite in singles which destroyed her opponent today 6-0 6-1) because that will be maybe future Serbian #1 Fed Cup doubles team... but that's not happen. They should thinking about that in near future and everytime when Jovanovski, Krunic and Curovic played at same event they should play together.

So whatever happen in next round Aleksandra already reach big success here and broke TOP500 :worship: (despite she played just 8 ranked events in last 53 weeks, next monday I think there will be just 3 younger players better ranked than Krunic).

Awesome success for young Aleksandra. :bounce::kiss:
So far in whole career she played just about 10 ITF events and all is 10K (except just one 25K). So before this big-one 50K tournament best ranked opponent which she ever meet is about #400 ranked, but she still managed to win 10 straight sets in the row here, including this win against TOP300 in-form player! And don't forget that she won career-first event which she ever played (2008 Prokuplje 10K), so this is not just coincidence, this girl must be very courage, focused and self-confident. And of course very talented.

Thanks to risky decision to drop juniors career just in moment when she has open opportunity to rise in one of best Jr-players and even Jr-slam title contender she choose harder way for young player to be visible on tennis radar. But in same time she obviously not waste her time and seems that she is already prepared for "next step". For direct 25K and 50K access she needs to be ranked TOP300-TOP250, and only this week she already improve at least 100 places with nice chances to improve more if in next couple hours she beat Lu from China. Chinese is #225 in rankings but I dont think that she is much better than Alex previous opponent and thanks to so express wins here she is less tired than anybody expect from some very young girl after 5 back-to-back matches (Alex won 10 straight sets including FOUR BAGELS ).

:woohoo: 12th set in the row :bolt:
What a spectacular way to debut on "bigger stage" and to start new season
I was surprised yesterday when she beat in straight sets that British girl with 15+ ITF-tour winning strike, so this "routine" win against nearly TOP200 opponent now is not anymore surprise.

SF opponent is compatriot and FED-CUP teammate Bojana Jovanovski, which is already right now TOP100 player by quality and results in last 5 months... so Alex should just go on court and without any pressure to show once again her best tennis. Her biggest advantage will be motivation (for Bojanovski whole this event is just preparation for next week AO Qual. when she has really good chances to reach careers 1st GS Main Draw).

I think she is scheduled to play another challenger in China next week, but of course no way that she will play quallies this week, so i think she will back to Europe and not be able to more explore this good shape in next about month :(, but at least FED-CUP week Serbia vs Russia will be nice opportunity for Alex to improve watching and training with big WTA stars Ana Ivanovic and her new "mentor" Jelena Jankovic.

She's in the SF so she should get a SE into the next event if she can't play qualies.

A star is born :rocker2:

I'm pretty sure that Aleksandra Krunic (born in march of 1993) today become first 1992+ born girl ever which won some 50K title or bigger!

I mean first overall - including whole 1992 generation and biggest 1993+ prospects (De Brito, Robson, Mladenovic...)

Start of season from dreams! Alex playing career 1st 50K event (her just 2nd event bigger than 10K) and won title like qualifier, bageled 4 her opponents and losing just one set in whole tournament (against #1-seed, TOP150 player).

Alex will next week play 50K ITF event in Russia without Qualies and I expect some really good news:D. Despite she more prefers outdoors than indoors, she always playing better on bigger events so we should forget all this 25K march troubles.

Since October when Alex was ranked about #800 she improved almost 500 places, and if we make deeper analysis of her results we will be even more optimistic about her future! Most promising about her is still fact that 1993 born Krunic is worlds only 1992+ born girl with 50K+ title so far, but that is not all. Her W/L record is impressive 21-6 in this period (since Oct/09), but please notice structure of this 6 loses: one is retirement after just 3 games and in 3 out of this 6 loses Aleksandra BAGELED her opponents:eek:, but her small body still is not able to follow her big talent in three setters, so her 85% winning percentage of 1st sets (22-4) and also impressive over 80% winning percentage of 2nd sets (21-5) is pretty damaged with her negative 3-sets record (3-4). Maybe young Alex will not grow anymore, but she has place for dramatic improvement in her fitness in upcoming period. Some "small" players like Schnyder, Cibulkova, Zheng (Coetzer in past) is actually well-known b/c their very good fitness, so we have reasons to believe that little Alex will be maybe next WTA "small-package" real-deal:rocker2:

Not so good draw for Alex in Russia. After qualifier in first round she will face two dangerous seeds. In 2nd round against player which reach two finals from 3 tournaments which played in 2010 beating 5 TOP200 opponents (including 2 former WTA TOP60 Oprandi and Ani) and in next QF round against 2nd seeded TOP150 player. But on other hand (thanks to her talent) Aleksandra is capable to beat anybody from this draw despite fact that her CURRENT ranking is 3dr lowest into MD Entry list. Good luck!

Unexpected big problems into first round vs qualifier (lose 6-1 1st set :tape:). I'm just hope that reason is not injury. If she really have some health problems, bad thing is also that today after three setter in singles she played match in doubles.

Next opponent is probably player in best shape in bottom half of MD. If Alex survive she has wide open road to another very good 50K result this season!

So Alex will not play next week at Moscow 25K or 50K Astana (KAZ), and which is more interesting she decide to withdrew that other week from Russian 50K in Kazan, and switch them with 25K in Germany with very strong field for that level (Oprandi, Koritseva, Schruf, Woerle...)

after QUANZHOU i thought she is going to have great year but she only won Moscow(highest ranked player she beat was 374)....and she is becoming julia's mayr bitch....Krunic has very good season so far. She is youngest active WTA player which won some $50K+ event and she will finish this month with just Ajla Tomljanovic ahead her of all other younger players than she is.

It's not secret that Aleksandra have big fatigue problem when she trying to play two back-to-back tournaments in two weeks. She is simple physically still not ready for such efforts and only reason why she reach QF this week after last week SF is lucky draw (two wild cards in previous rounds), so it's expected scenario that first decent TOP300 will beat her. Italian Mayr is so lucky to play vs Aleks always when she playing that 2nd back-to-back week when she is always less than 80% of her usual game.

Krunic next tournament will be September's $100K Biella if her ranking will be enough good for Q-Draw, otherwise perhaps another European 25K event. For 2010 improvement she deserve credit from us.

Krunic next tournament will be September's $100K Biella if her ranking will be enough good for Q-Draw, otherwise perhaps another European 25K event. For 2010 improvement she deserve credit from us.Despite Krunic gave-up early from juniors tennis just in moment when she is finally in position to demonstrate how better she improve than almost all others 1992+ WTA teenagers, she is obviously not so much out of radar, and her 2010 50K title and big rankings improvement for such young girl is recognized :worship: so she receive only one non-Italian Main Draw Wild Card for 100K event in Biella(ITA) which Entry List more remind on WTA International events than ITF Challengers (several former TOP20: Dokic, Suarez-Navarro, Cornet, Razzano...)! I wish her two beatable opponents in opening two rounds. QF of 100K will be amazing finish of season for Alex!

Not good draw for Aleksandra in Italy. Last season TOP50 player Olaru in 1st round,
and already in eventual 2nd round Italian veteran and 2nd seed #71 Garbin (also known here for her "ITF-GOAT" nickname :p).

Krunic d. Olary 7-6 in the third. This was streamed and I enjoyed it. Alex' screams after she wins a big point are scary though :sobbing:

Good fight from little Alex, especially if we knows that she never before played MD of such big event and never before faced TOP100 opponent. In terms of careers ITF circuit achievements and results Garbin (Italian veteran which since 2000 every season finished into TOP100) is one of most accomplished players ever, but young and unexperienced Krunic almost beat her! If she wins today she will be around #200 already in monday... but she is in good shape obviously and has almost nothing to defend till end of season, so she will very probably finish this season into WTA TOP200 as one of 2-3 youngest members of TOP200 club. Really great achievement for someone who finished last season out of radar (and out of TOP600)!

Her next tournament is again in Italy (Mestre, 50K) and she will be probably into Main Draw without Qualies (just two MD girls needs to w/o before Q-draw in next 7 days, which often happens at ITF circuit events). BTW together with big improvements in her game, in livestreams from Biella it will be easy to notice once again her strong and fun personality and great spirit :D

Nothing funny there. In terms of quality and talent I'm pretty sure Krunic >>> Costas and despite she is youngest quarterfinalist, she is already most accomplished player left after Julia Schruff. We will never know how this painful 6-1 6-0 result happen. Aleksandra lose against player which never reach TOP250 before (3 years older than Krunic) with such strange scoreline. Let's hope that she is not injured at least in Madrid.
