View Full Version : Lindsay in Amelia Island. (SF withdraws, but keeps AI win streak alive!)

Dave.
Apr 5th, 2008, 03:24 PM
Lindsay is currently tied with Evert, Navratilova, Graf and Sabatini with 3 AI titles so has a chance to make history if she can win it for the 4th time. :bounce:

Draw should be relased later today. There aren't too many claycourters in the draw. I just hope she avoids Sharapova, Venus and perhaps Schnyder. She should be fine with the rest of the field.

Dani is playing and I think Lisa normally plays this event, so Lindsay might play doubles too.

Here's hoping for a good start to the claycourt season:clap2:

With Venus out, Lindsay only needed one withdraw to be seeded :(

Anyway the queen of AI can be anyone here! :D Allez!

Oh goody that's got to help with her draw. Thanks to Vera for the assist. Than means Lindsay can't draw Maria in the first round. I just hope Lindsay gets a nice draw where she can work her way into the tournament and get the ranking up again by more than a few places.

It's not a bad draw, but I was hoping that Lindsay would be on the opposite side of Maria altogether.

Anyways, I hope Lindsay sort of remembers how to play on green clay since she is a three time champion here and all and it's been 3 years since she's touched the stuff.

Good luck Lindsay!

No doubles for Lindsay :)

Lindsayfan32
Apr 6th, 2008, 10:14 PM
No doubles that mightn't be a bad thing. As for the singles draw it's a pretty good draw. Can't play Maria until the semi finals. The last minute seeding seemed to help Lindsay a lot now let's hope she can take advantage of it and make that semi and then if she plays Maria beat her.

mike/topgun
Apr 6th, 2008, 10:16 PM
That's a good draw:) There's a significant chance for a QF, or even semi vs sharpie, what could be farily interesting. Maybe Lindsay will get the timing back in AI, on green clay?

LindsayfanTV
Apr 6th, 2008, 10:42 PM
I would have preferred the other half of the drawer for Lindsay as she has Maria, Dani and Dinara in her half.

But good luck Lindsay ~ she knows her way round the green clay and I think she could do some damage in her half

Keep it going Lindsay. :D It may be a slightly optimisitc view but i hope she gets to silence the screams of Sharapova in the semi's (at least for a little while anyway). I know there is a potentially difficult match-up with Hantuchova first though. It would be so good to see her win the competition in Amelia Island as it is bound to give her so much belief looking forward to the European tournaments.

Good win Lindsay. An in-form player in Sprem will be a tough test for Lindsay. I'm actually a bit worried about this match-up. If Sprem hits a few winners early on, her confidence will be high and Lindsay's low. Lindsay will have to prevent Sprem from getting comfortable on the court and dominate the points.

I know, she always does that. Watch all Sharapova's errors will vanish against Lindsay. She just raises her game when playing tough opponents. Plus a hitting fest with Lindsay will be much more up her street than a moonball fest with Anabel. Normally throughout her whole career, I would favour Lindsay in this type of hitting match up on a slow court. But Lindsay's strokes just aren't as penetrating anymore and the placement has become poorer.

I think the surface will favour Lindsay. They are both clay hacks and Maria has struggled against players in the last two rounds she should've beaten easily even on clay. Lindsay plays hard ball and gets a better service percentage I think she has a chance just have faith in her and another thing Maria has never made a clay court final. But there is a first time for everything I think Lindsay has more of a chance than everyone given her credit for.

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. (AP) — Lindsay Davenport has withdrawn from the Bausch & Lomb Championship semifinals Saturday because she was feeling ill.

Tournament director John Arrix said Saturday that Davenport couldn't get out of bed and was dizzy. Arrix says Davenport's illness may stem from the cold her 9-month-old son had earlier this week.

Davenport was to have played top-seeded Maria Sharapova. Sharapova now gets a walkover to Sunday's title match, her first final on clay.

So much for seeing the two "cows on ice" play on clay. :p

If Lindsay's dizzy and stuff it's a good thing she isn't playing then. After she fainted at home two year ago. It's unfortunate this happened at one of her best and favorite tournaments though. Get well soon, Linds .

I wonder if she'll actually play some more on clay outside of Fed Cup and the exo in Warsaw now.

This is very sad and unfortunate but at least it's not an injury. She can hopefully recover from this illness in a few days and be ready for Moscow. Shame to end the tournament like this though.

"The Bausch & Lomb Championships has always been one of my favorites and I am so sorry to the fans and people involved in the tournament. In the 16 years I have played on the Tour I do not believe I have ever had to pull out due to sickness. I hope to get better quickly and look forward being back next year."

Oh well, at least she still has her AI win streak in tact. And the H2H with Maria stays at 5-1.

No it doesn't as dumb as it sounds this withdrawal goes on the head to head it now stands at 6-1. I really thought Lindsay had a great chance of beating Maria being in clay too oh well she has to look after her health. :)

Not true. It's recorded on the H2H page as a match that should have taken place but it doesn't make it onto the overall numbers.

GUTTED. Lindsay may have lost her only chance to get a truly credible victory against Maria. Illness is better for Lindsay's morale than injury, IMO so better than a resurfacing of the back injury.

Walkovers are not counted as WTA results. It isn't a win for Maria or a loss for Lindsay, so Lindsay's winning streak in AI is still alive, and the H2H is still 1-5.

I think AI was the tournament amongst her favorites that Lindsay had the best chance to win :awww: I really wanted to see pics of Lindsay with the AI trophy and Jagger.

I'm beginning to wonder when Linds is gonna win a title above Tier III, I guess she's got a good shot at Stanford, I'm certain she'll have a good run at a major event though, and I don't mean QFs

Lindsay played well here and won a lot of matches... previously, when Lindsay got byes at this event, I didn't realise you had to win 6 matches to win... if she gets a bye or wins a tier II with a smaller draw it'll be easier. I find it a bit infuriating that Lindsay's feelings towards a tournament seem to affect her level of positivity... especially clay ones.

I agree, it would be nice to see her be as positive during a clay match as she is on grass, she would have so much success. On the other hand, the "Me against the world" attitude is half the fun of watching her on clay. :( :p

TTC showed Lindsay-Pierce 1994 FC, on red clay. They are showing it again at Midnight CT, if someone missed it.

Did you record it by any chance? (or if not, could someone please?) Would love to see this match. :bounce:

I don't have the equipment to, unfortunately. :( Hopefully someone else will be able to.
