Aug 4th, 2002, 11:15 AM
He said that Anna will be 4th... I think he's right. Tennis in Israel is not populat at all. Soccer is the most popular sport, plus that athlete (Irena Lansky) broke a 20 year old Israeli record.
Aug 4th, 2002, 11:25 AM
I've finally voted.
The full adress to get straight to the sports category, is, I think:
Yep Karen the link is no good... Oh well, remind me, when would the awards be given?
Aug 7th, 2002, 01:37 PM
The awards will be given somewhere near the Israeli new year, I think at the begining of September.

Walid Badir is a soccer player who didn't do anything this year, why he is in the nominated list?!?
and not everybody knows the athletes in israel, only these that really interest in athletics.
maccabi tel aviv in basketball failed this year to stay the euro champion, only hapoel tel aviv and Anna deserve to win...
Aug 16th, 2002, 06:50 PM
Actually, Walid Badir did accomplish something, I think: He was the player that played in Maccabi Haifa's qualifing match for the champions league despite being suspended (the famous fax insident) and got them kicked out...
Anyway, Maccabi Tal Aviv (basketball) and Hapoel Tel Aviv (soccer) have much more fans then Anna, so I guess one of them will wim.
Aug 17th, 2002, 08:44 AM
 Anna really doesn't stand a chance considering they don't like/cover tennis that much
Why don't they just give her The Sportswoman of The Year Award??
Aug 17th, 2002, 11:14 AM
Im not quite sure there is an award like this:o
Aug 17th, 2002, 02:51 PM
I think the Israeli newspapers might give out an award for sports woman of the year.
Aug 20th, 2002, 10:52 AM
oic.. they can always create one..:D
Aug 27th, 2002, 01:19 PM
The "People of the year" awards were given yesterday. Stupid me, I forgot all about it and saw only a few of the winners.
Anna didn't win  Hapoel Tel Aviv won the sports category...
Aug 27th, 2002, 03:22 PM
Anna
but congrats to Hapoel.
Aug 28th, 2002, 12:02 PM
Anna :(
Aug 28th, 2002, 01:01 PM
Well..... It was obvious. Whats the point of putting a female tennis player against a men's football team here? I hate that!

There was a list of the 25 people that influenced the Israeli sports the most this year on ynet. Anna was #9 on the list. I'll translate that later.
Sep 8th, 2002, 09:52 AM
:) 10th isn't that bad
Sep 8th, 2002, 12:34 PM
oh, the translation:
Tennis player. The first lady of the Israeli sports has been strugling lately, but is still ranked very high. Smashnova doesn't get much credit from the Israeli sports lovvers, but nevertheless she is still the top Israeli sports women right now, and the best Israeli tennis player ever. :D

Thanks Karen. A very nice description. Looks like they fully gave credit to Anna! :)
