Here is a file with the ranking of last week, and the points added and retrieved this week after Indian Wells, live.
Out of all the tournaments played by players, only the best 11 are taken into account (that's not even like for singles, for which whatever the result, GS and Mandatory count in the 17 best, here only the best ones count).
If you need more details, do not hesitate to ask. I displayed also the 11th and 12th result, so that calculation can be clearer for all, if it is not, tell me.
In grey, the results that will not change, in blue those who can still change because the teams are still in the draw.

NB: I've added the peak ranking and also the name of the tournament played this week. I thought these info could be interesting as well.

Stefi I asked you the question but I did it before you answered anyway, because I thought it deserved it, this thread is stuck now :bounce:

Now maybe would it be a good idea to have the race one stuck as well but to avoid having both stuck I could merge them and you could update both ones in one thread, what do you think?

Good job Stefi!
Am I right in assuming Ai could become #3 if they win their match tonight?

You are right. If Hantuyama win tonight, they earn 210 points so in Sugi's total, you retrieve 125 (11th tournament) and add at least 210 points, so 3655-125+210=3740 pts, which is exactly the same number of points as Srebotnik. But Sugi with 22 tournaments vs 21 for Srebo would become the new third.

Shall i do the merge and make sure you have the first two posts, then it's all yours to update and edit.

EDIT: that was easy enough: no need to do anything with posts, you have the two right posts at the top already :D

Thanks, Stefi!
I hope she can do it. Ai <3

Jie and Zi will knock on door of top ten soon hopefully :) Hopefully also Meilen and Vania can knock themselves in top 30.

I'm looking forward to this year, it feels as if it hasn't really started yet. But I think Yan/Zheng are dangerous to get back to the top, They're just such an effective team.
Hopefully Ai & Kata can get up on the race, too. But they haven't played enough...

they will probably be back in top 10 if they do well in miami, stosur will lose some pts because of her injury  lisa needs a decent doubles player to help her to defend her pt too.

That's true.
Jie and Zi are by far the most impressive team this year, I think. They are the most consistent, as shown in the Race figures. It's so incredible they can do this so fast!! They are really wonderful.
And they're young (relatively, in doubles terms!) - they have years ahead of them!

So happy Ai is back to #3 :) She must be really happy. A year of good, solid results represent that ;)

you are right !! Cara and Liezel have a lot of points to defend in RG and Wimbly (1/2 for RG and title for wimbly).

But Cara and Liezel are like Ai. Ai has two finals (Rg and Wimbly) !!

The best will win ;)

Very true!
Ai has 1400 points to defend just at those two Grand Slams, and Cara/Liezel have 1450 points...

#1 isn't out reach for Ai, but she definitely has to get some points now and do well there if it's going to happen for her!!
Let's hope Ai & Kata can do it :D

The best teams of the year so far are Black/Huber, Yan/Zheng and Bondarenko/Bondarenko (though I don't expect them to last at the top).

Black/Huber have won 2 titles and 1 RU, plus AO QF.
Yan/Zheng have 1 title, 3 RU, plus AO SF.
Bondarenko/Bondarenko have 2 titles (including AO)

I suppose it's a matter of opinion who has had a better year out of the 1st two. Personally I think Black/Huber have been better. That final win in Dubai does it for me.

It's more than enough good works. You don't have to be sorry. :D

YJ and CJ stay the same but the gap's closing between others and them. They don't quite have a lot of points to defend during the clay season. So hopefully they don't wate it. :)

If Katai have good/great results before RG, they can possibly close this gap ;) (and then after Katai will have to defend finalist points at two Grand Slams but it's doable.)
Who knows, maybe they can reach world #1? hmmm

Slams SF + W is great , hope they keep their regularity and get to win a medal at the Olympics.
Ai and Kata have to avoid early exits like in Berlin(or was it Rome ) and RG :tape: and hopefully win a Slam too this year ...hopefully Wimbledon but it will be tough especially with Black/Huber yet to win a Slam title in 2008 too , and on their favourite (I suppose) surface they will be highly motivated to prove they're still at the top :p it will be a nice Wimbly in doubles methiks

So great to see Lisa and Sam back close to winning slams. Hopefully with very little points to defend in the 2nd half of the year, they can get back to the elite and make the YEC.

If she wins the 500 points for the quarters, she would become 3rd (10 points ahead of Srebotnik). Once again, that's not official, just y own computed rankings....

Ai would potentially close the gap with Black/Huber by winning today, but has many points to defend in the Spring.
I am so glad she's back to #3, hopefully they keep winning, and Hantuchova moves up to top 20, then top 10, so they can have a higher seeding at Roland Garros:)

Here is the race as it is now, before the semis:
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/8235/raceh.jpg (http://img196.imageshack.us/i/raceh.jpg/)

Black/Huber qualified. Then in my opinion, NuriaJo, the Williamses and Stubsur are almost qualified. Indeed, the 5th team, Medina/Ruano has over 1100 points less than the fourth team. The only two big tournaments remaining are Tokyo and Beijing. Points given for Tokyo are 1, 110, 200, 350, 550 and 800, points for Beijing are 5, 140, 250, 450, 700 and 1000. There is also Moscow (1, 120, 200, 320, 470) after that, and a few international tournaments before.
So as you can see, it would be tough for Medina and Ruano (or Hantuyama, Hsieh-Peng...)to score so many points with so few points given until the end of the year, and at the same time, the top 4 teams are supposed not to score too many points...

If you want my opinion, we have the four teams, only the ranking may change a bit. ;)

Venus and Serena Williams Qualify for Season-Ending Championships
Published by Aaress Lawless on Sep 29, 2009 | Print | ShareThis
Venus and Serena Williams will make a special trip to the Middle East before enjoying the off-season.

The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour announced Tuesday that for the first time in their doubles career, the Williams sisters have qualified for the doubles event at the Sony Ericsson Championships

The tournament is set to take place for the second year in a row at the Khalifa International Tennis Complex in Doha, Qatar, from October 27-November 1, 2009.

The team of Venus Williams/Serena Williams is the second to qualify for the Championships and will join Cara Black/Liezel Huber, along with singles competitors Dinara Safina, Serena Williams, Elena Dementieva, and Caroline Wozniacki, all of whom have previously qualified and are headed to Doha.

"We are thrilled to be heading to Doha for the Sony Ericsson Championships," said Serena Williams. "I love playing doubles with Venus as we have so much fun on the court. This year, we actually decided to put more emphasis on our doubles careers and going to Doha has been on our mind all season. I am thrilled to have an opportunity to compete at the Sony Ericsson Championships in both singles and doubles."

"It's been extremely rewarding to win a number of big doubles titles with Serena this year," said Venus Williams. "While playing doubles with my sister is one of the best experiences for me, qualifying for the Sony Ericsson Championships as a team is a great accomplishment and we can't wait to get to Doha and take on the best doubles teams in the world."

Venus and Serena Williams' 2009 season includes victories at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open, in addition to winning a title at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford. Venus and Serena Williams, along with Lisa Raymond, are the only active players to have completed the career doubles Grand Slam (2001/2003/2009 Australian Open, 1999 Roland Garros, 2000/2002/2008/2009 Wimbledon, 1999/2009 US Open). Overall, Venus and Serena have won 10 Grand Slam doubles titles and hold a perfect 10-0 record in Grand Slam finals.

The world's top eight singles players and top four doubles teams from the 2009 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour season will compete for the coveted Sony Ericsson Championships title and a share of the record Championships prize money of $4.55 million.

Hmmm. If Black/Huber have 9200 and their 12th is 370 and a SF at YEC is 345 ...

Take out their 1500 and replace it with their 12th of 370.

That's 8070. Add 1500 for Venus and Serena. That's 8250. I didn't think it was possible for the Sisters to still have a shot at YE #1.

I think this year, a semi final loss at the YEC is around twice 345, possibly 675. You have last year's ranking points :wavey:

My math I am pretty sure is right, but they would need to lose QF at Beijing and not win Moscow if they entered it. By them making SFs at Beijing, they would lead WS by 10 points:lol: (If Bluber lose YEC SF, WS win it.)
