All universes full of good luck at your
and my
favoured tournament, Dani !!!!

GIVE IT ALL, my sky-blue elf ! :inlove:  :yeah: :bounce: :yeah:

the itvw from her website:

Daniela : « Give 100% at Indian Wells »

Exclusive interview of Daniela for her official website.

http://s232751790.onlinehome.fr/dh08/Antwerp_Daniela_050308.jpgDaniela, how was this week for you ? Do you feel better?
I have more energy and starting to feel like myself again. Thanks goodness !

What did you do of your free time ?
Well, I was recuperating from a virus so I mostly stayed low key at home, near my bed or on the sofa reading and catching up on some shows and movies on television. I had my family with me and friends stopped by for short visits – that was so nice !

How did you take again the physical activities and the tennis training ?
I am not going to demand too much of my body just yet. Right now, I’m getting back into the training routine of hits, gym workouts and more hits.

What are the exercises to find gradually your best level ?
I like to stick to what works for me which is pretty basic, nothing complicated. I begin every workout on a bike and warm up the muscles. Then move on to light free weights or use machines, core and balance exercises, lunges are a must and finish off with a good long stretch. My trainer Marco Panichi is awesome ! He travels with me as much as possible.

Do you think you will be ready for Indian Wells ?
Having won twice Indian Wells is very dear to me so I certainly hope so. I will give 100%, work extremely hard and do my very best to perform well there.

pretty good draw for Daniela

1st big obstacle would be Masha...
but nothing here is impossible as we know ;)

Mar 11th, 2008, 06:17 AM
there are clearly only 3 favorite's to win the title, Daniela, Ana, and of course Maria... sorry if i crashed your Daniela-cheer-party here, but I will go with just either Ana or Masha but more for Masha... she misses that whale and she's in good form...

but as we all know tennis is so unpredictable...so let's just wait and see!!!

Can Hantuchova make history?

http://cmsimg.gdn.mydesert.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Avis=J1&Dato=20080312&Kategori=EVENTS10&Lopenr=803120330&Ref=TS&NewTbl=1&MaxW=380&Border=0 (http://www.mydesert.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080312/EVENTS10/803120330/1120/events10)
Can Hantuchova make history? Can Lindsay return to elite status? Can Sharapova remain unbeaten?

Defending champion Daniela Hantuchova can accomplish something that Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Lindsay Davenport and Serena Williams have never done here - win the Pacific Life Open tournament three times. Hantuchova is a good player who plays great tennis in the desert, winning titles in 2002 and last year. A third title would be historic, but she will have plenty of obstacles with Maria Sharapova, Davenport, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic. It would be quite the accomplishment from a player who has won only one other tournament title in her career.

Can Lindsay return to elite status?

Lindsay Davenport, a Southern California native, is the winningest player at the Pacific Life Open with a 44-11 record with six finals appearances and two titles in 1997 and 2000. However, this is Davenport's first time playing at Indian Wells since giving birth to her son, Jagger. Davenport has won four tournament titles since her return, going 25-3 with victories over Jelena Jankovic, Elena Dementieva and Daniela Hantuchova. However, Davenport has yet to win one of the bigger events on the calendar and had a dismal showing at the Australian Open. This will be Davenport's second major tournament and it will be in her own backyard. It should be a good indicator if Davenport has returned to elite status.
Can Sharapova remain unbeaten?

The most impressive start of this season has come from Maria Sharapova, who is 14-0, including a title at the Australian Open. Indian Wells has been good to Sharapova, as it is where she made her WTA debut as a 14-year-old and where she won the title in 2006. However, Indian Wells can be tough on Sharapova. In 2005, when Sharapova was making a move toward the No. 1 ranking, she suffered the worst loss of her career when Lindsay Davenport beat her 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals.
Will the Serbians finally win here?

As good as Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic have been, they have both struggled at Indian Wells. Ivanovic, No. 2 in the world and a finalist at the Australian and French opens, has a 5-2 record at the Pacific Life Open, with the quarterfinals in 2006 as her best showing in two appearances. Fourth-ranked Jankovic, who reached the semifinals in three of the last six Grand Slam tournaments, has been even worse, going 3-6. Her best showing was last year, when she reached the third round.
Can Kuznetsova win here?

Svetlana Kuznetsova is one of the most talented players in the field and has a record of success on hardcourts, having reached the U.S. Open finals two times in the last four years and winning in 2004. Last year, Kuznetsova, who was ranked No. 2, reached the finals before getting upset by Daniela Hantuchova. Kuznetsova has done well in the past in Indian Wells, racking up a 13-4 record, but has yet to win the title.

Daniela seems to be realistic in that pk about the chances of defending her title. Her look says it all...

Hantuchova Prepared to Begin Title Defense
http://www.pacificlifeopen.com/4/assets/photos/NewsArticles/hantuchova_08preview1.jpg http://www.pacificlifeopen.com/4/assets/graphics/space.gif Defending champion Daniela Hantuchova arrived in Indian Wells, relaxed and ready to vie for her third Pacific Life Open title. The Slovak captured her first two career Tour titles at this event, her first in 2002 as an 18-year-old.
“I’m really honored to be defending a title like this and it’s very exciting to be back in my very special place,” said Hantuchova on Wednesday. “There’s always been something about this tournament, I always felt so great here. The atmosphere is so relaxing, no distractions, and I can really focus on my tennis.”
Hantuchova plays her second round opener against American wild card Angela Haynes, who defeated Italian Sara Errani 7-5, 6-2 as women’s main draw action began Wednesday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Mar 14th, 2008, 11:58 AM
Daniela played Angela in 2nd rd of Los Angeles in 2005 (4-6 6-1 6-2, not an easy one). There she reached the final by defeating K.Bondarenko in r3, Maria Sharapova in QF (walkover), Dementieva in SF. She lost to Kim 4-6 1-6 in the final then.

Would be nice if this path could recur (maybe against JJ in F  /just a dream).

well done for today, way to go.

Mar 15th, 2008, 01:09 AM
On Sunday Daniela will face Jie Zheng for the 1st time in her career. Regarding the fact she outclassed Kateryna B. 6-2 6-4 in r2 and despite the fact that she's currently ranked #216 of the world Jie's play could be a really dangerous for Dani in this 3rd rd encounter. Hopefully she prevails in same style as against Angela...

Best of luck in r3, Daniela !!!

Next up for Dani will be Sania Mirza of India. With beating favorite Peer after a tough 2nd set in the previous rd she gained soooooo much confidence for her battle with the Slovak. This is by far the most challenging encounter after the relatively easy matches in r1 and r2 for Daniela. I hope she gets through in closer sets to gain more confidence for the possible biggest task ahead on her way to defend the whale.

Daniela just played once against Sania before - in Sydney's 1st rd 2006 (already 2 yrs ago, also on hardcourt). She won in 3 sets then (#17/D. d. #34/S.) but had to retire in QF against Nicole V. after defeating Patty in 2nd rd in tough 3.

I guess this last and only clash has got not much significance for this survival match here...

So pls show how dangerous your skills can be, Daniela !!!

Daniela will face the invincible player of the year today: Maria SHARAPOVA.

The head-to-head shows that the Russian top-star is the absolute favorite in this 2nd QF as she leads it with an indisputable exclusive power of six matches to one (Tokyo 2004). They'll meet for the eighth time this evening and it's just four months ago that Masha ousted my elf in closer two sets at the Tour Championships in Madrid (4-6 5-7). But this is holy ground. Here at Indian Wells and nowhere else Daniela has the ability to keep her nerves oppressed and her skills alive. Hopefully she gets her into a 3rd set where all can happen. Use your chance that doesn't seem to be there, Daniela!

We stay by your side, you are the one...

Don't look back, don't give up !!!

from her website...

Daniela : « It was a great match »
Daniela’s reactions after her victory against the Indian Sania Mirza tuesday (6-1, 7-6 (4)).

http://s232751790.onlinehome.fr/dh08/Daniela_IW_190308.jpg « I thought it was a great match. Sania is a great hitter. I was expecting really a tough one, and just being able to be in the quarters without losing a set feels really great. It's going to be an exciting match against Maria Sharapova. She's playing obviously in great form, so it will be a good test for me. I feel like I own this place. I'm here and anything can happen. I'm confident, but obviously if I want to win I have to play my best. Let's see if I will be able to do that. »

Maria Sharapova about Daniela :
« We've played each other numerous times and we know each other's games well. But it all comes down to the person that takes their chances and is more solid. »

Mar 20th, 2008, 11:33 AM
After wasting the 2 sps/bps in 5th and 6th service game of the Russian Daniela fell back to think about it. Even at the beginning of the tiebreak she has had her chances.

But that's the difference between the two. If Masha manages to use a chance for a comeback she is able to exploit the mental instability of her opponent afterwards. Hopefully Daniela will learn again and again from such situations. It doesn't help - she has to.

But all of her real fans are still backing her despite this heavy loss.
