They have different sponsors.

And men make more at every event other than the slams.

Didn't know that:confused:
Anyways i think it's right, women tennis out of slams can be boring as hell...

But are the Memphis mens' and womens' events even on the same level? I don't think they are.

Also, the sponsors can afford to give men more money. The men draw bigger crowds. Take Antwerp for example: the stadiums were empty for most women's matches, but a men's match woulda filled that place up really fast...

The ATP and WTA use different systems so you can't really compare.

But Regions Morgan Keegan is willing to pay the men more money than Cellular South is with the women.

I'm pretty sure the mens is a "higher" event than the womens... although as someone pointed out, you can't really compare them. Plus the men in general get more money anyway. :(

At Sydney women get more money than men. The level of the tournament is different on both circuits.

The womens is a Tier III event

The mens is an International Series Gold (so its basically like a Tier II); therefore more money!

As many have already pointed out, the prizemoney allocated depends on the level or tier of the event on each tour. Despite being played at the same time at the same venue, these two tournaments have nothing to do with each other. The women get paid depending on what tier event it is and the same for the men. Memphis is just more important on the mens tour.

As has also been said, in Sydney the women get paid more because it is a tier II event for them and more prestigious than the mens tournament in Sydney.

I don't see the point of this thread

Memphis for men and for women are different categories. I mean, take for example Dubai: prize money for women is one and a half million $ and for men slightly less (1 426 000$). For Doha difference is even more drastic in favour of women - they have whole 1 million bigger prize money. I really don't see the problem

Different status of tournament.

But I'm sure Venus and Lindsay will attract just as many people as Roddick or whoever the ATP call their star players.

$28,000 isn't too shabby.
