Wow, a lot of withdrawals since the initial list.

I'm surprised Yoon-Jeong Cho and Eun-Ha Kim withdrew.

Good luck Mi-Ra Jeon. Hope she goes all the way.

No Kaori Aoyama.
She's withdrawn all her tourneys since the National Championships... hope she's not injured again.

Chisayo Ito injured herself a couple of weeks ago, hopefully she's recovered by now.

I wish the Chinese team came here. They would do very well this tourney if they played.

Stephanie Cohen Aloro is still there. I hope she will have a favourable draw.

As for the Chinese, I am still wondering what they are doing. They seem to be training so much that they forget to play tennis tournaments .

Agree with you TBE, good luck to Shelley too (and Ka Po).

Angelique seeded #1. It will be interesting to see how she handles the situation. I think it is a new challenge for her.

Some bad match-ups:
Angie vs Jin-Young
Mi-Ra vs Ryoko
Shiho vs Suchanan

I expect Angie to have her hands full against Jin-Young who's much better than her rank suggests. The reason why she isn't ranked as high is because she attends University.

I'm surprised Chin-Bee got a wildcard, glad she did. Jiro if you get a chance to talk to her, please ask her how long she expects to play on the pro tour? She only turned pro in June after graduating from College in the States. I used to email her but I think her address changed since she graduated.

Interesting first match between Jin Young and Angelica. Angelica is extremely unpredictable in a match. So difficult to bet on any of them.

Stéphanie ranking must have improved since she is now seeded #5. I'll check this out on Monday when all Aussie ITF will have been taken into account.

danker, these players are all the same : they change of email address and they don't inform any one .

Bad luck to Okamoto !
Congrats to Napaporn and Tong Ka-Po !

I am happy to know Napaporn win the match as I expected before. I have seen Okamoto practicing a few day ago, she hit the ball with flat and deep and also very consistent. Napaporn have improved a lot recently, she should won over Widjaja in ITF circuit a fews months ago. Finally she lost to Widjaja in 3 sets. She also played well againt Widjaja in Volvo Women's Open, Pattaya but lost to Widjaja again 5/7,4/6. Actually Napaporn hit the ball harder than Okamoto and she always play aggressive. She try to hit winner shot every time if she have chance. Let see how can she go far.

Good luck Napaporn, hope you can do well next round.

This is so typical : no match on Monday and Tuesday. And suddenly Stephanie has to play both doubles and single matches the same day.

I just saw in the men draw that Suwandi is in. I hope he has fully recovered from his SEA Games injury.

He had had some good results last year (Challenger Tashkent). Hope it will continue for him there.

Big congrats to Napaporn Tongsalee !

She recieved main draws wildcard and has beaten 2 players who have ranking higher than her, Seiko Okamoto(531) and no.2 seeded Young-Ja Choi(249).

As I said before she hit the ball flat and so hard. She has been defeated by Angie twice in 2 closed match, one in Challenger at Nonthaburi and one in Volvo Women's Open 2001. I didn't see her match today but I would say she played so well to beat Choi especially 6/0 in the second set.

She has already 24 years old and studying in University. Napaporn still do not have recieve any sponsor support. That is the reason why she doesn't have chance to play oversea tournament. I asked her yesterday about her sponsor for next year, she said Lawn Tennis Association Thailand(LTAT) may support her for playing oversea tournament next year. Hope LTAT do that.

Here below is her pictures I have taken before :

Jiro,

thanks for the results and sorry for Napaporn. But she has had a good tourney already. And it is also somewhat your fault : you brought luck to Ka Po .

Great for Stephanie. Did you have time to say hello to her on my behalf? I am certain she did not expect such results. Her coach must be extremely happy!

I hate the next match : Ka Po vs. Stephanie .

Regarding Angelique match : could you see it or did you have some feedback regarding this match? Was it because Yulania played astoundly well or Angelique was a bit down (was she still sick)? What strategy employed Yualania in the match?

And contratulations of course to Marina. Could you get some information on her? I still have no clue who she is...

Marina is 21 now (22/05/80)

she missed alot of this year thru injury.

she played 3 events around Paris time , lost both in qualies , twixe in 2R , once 1R.
She then made her comeback around a month ago , this is her best effort of the year so far.

only time she has qualified for the Maindraw.

Marina Caiazzo(FRA) impressed me very much, actually she played well againt Mi-Ra Jeon. Her foot work is great and very fast on court. She hit one hand backhand with top spin and slice. Both players played well, They tried to move each others around the court. I think Mi-Ra have got cramp because she ran a lot. Marina is very nice when I ask for picture. Her match againt Yuliana Fedak(UKR) start at 12:00pm. I will try to take photo of both players.

Steveg! I am disappointing for not having chance to see Ka-Po Vs Stephanie match since tomorrow is a sport day for my company. Tomorrow I will be there until 12:00pm to see Paradorn VS Hyung-Taik Lee match. Ka-Po VS Stephanie match is the next. I will take her picture for you since they have to come to tournament site before 12:00pm.
Hope I can catch all of them.

Steveg,

About Angie's loss, I'm also anxious to know more about the match than what I have been hearing.

Her camp doesn't wish people to talk much about her sickness and what the doctor actually suggested, but coach Deddy said they both played uptempo, aggressive and that it was a good match.

Angie will be back in Indonesia by today.

Congratulations, Fedak
Get well soon, Angie

That's the one Jiro. So thanks if you happen to see him.

For GoAngie.com, this lack of transparency from Angelique's camp regarding her sickness is surprising.

BTW GoAngie.com , I think you removed this post from a fan on your site, that was insulting to Yayuk and Wynne.

Congratulations for this move (if not mistaken) .

These 3 players are part of the same national team and it appears some fans get overexcited sometimes .

danker, I do not think that Ka Po should be disappointed. Stephanie is an "up-and-coming" French player. She was French Junior Champion last year and she is only 18.

Besides, her coach saw Ka Po play a few matches in Pattaya and most probably in this tourney too.

He has had time to study her game and give a few tactical advices to Stephanie I guess.

On the other hand, Ka Po has no coach and is on her own. This can make a lot of difference.

Rising Sun

Steve, for sure Stephanie should be very proud of herself for making the final.

The reason why I said Ka-Po should be disappointed is because she's never made it past the semis of a $25K event. She's always falling short in the semis...

danker, at least this time it is a $50,000 event. So it is a bit better.

Did you notice also that she never made it past the final round of a qualifying draw in a WTA event?

In Pattaya, she also lost in 3 sets against Wartush. She actually doesn't believe she can win. And the worst I think is that she has not realised it.

She needs first to realise what her actual problem is and then fix it. But for the time being, I think she still believes that it is for a tactical or technical reason.

She encourages herself a lot during the important points. But it is not convincing.

I think this is why she has never done it farther in a tourney.

And this is where Stephanie has had an advantage by having a coach. I know that Arnaud is working a lot on the mental preparation of Stephanie. Spending a lot of time talking to her and pushing her. And a lot of energy.

This is paying off very fast.

I wish all coaches were as good as he is. There would be a lot of better players on the tour (or at least a lot of players would have better results...).

Mi-Ra and Manisha!

Steve, according to the ITF site, this is a $25K tourney.

I think Jiro added the $25K both from the men's and women's tourney together.

Steveg

This is $25K for Men and $25K foe Women, sorry to you confude.

Thanks for the details Jiro. That "guy" who was with her at Pattaya is... her father!

As for her coach and hitting partner, I am not sure she has a coach. Wasn't it rather this Hong Kong player who was also present at the Men ITF event?

Thanks for the pics. I have just opened my mailbox and seen them. They are great.

You are right about not taking pics after matches. However, players also need to concentrate before matches. Some even have a ritual to maximise their concentration. So I usually avoid talking to them before their match too if I feel that they are trying to concentrate. It is sometimes however difficult to judge .
