View Full Version : Most Shocking/Freakish Loss of a Top Player to a Relative "unknown"

Some people seem shocked that Venus could lose to Domi, especially in straight sets...

What to you have been the most shocking or the most freakish losses of top players to a relative "unknown", taking into consideration that top player's form at the time of the loss?("unknown" to mean a player who hasn't had any big wins before and not established up and comer)

In recent memory mine would have to be Venus losing to Pironkova at the 06 AO 1st rd

Lindsay's loss to Lisicki at Fed Cup a couple weeks ago :(

Granted, Lindsay was still on her "comeback" and Sabine has shown that she can play well... But, considering Lindsay's comeback results (only losing 2 matches, both to top 5 plays), it is shocking she lost, especially with the scoreline

Most of the players mentioned are not "unknown", at least not for tennis fans.

Unknown players are the ones in the 500s, 600s, 700s, etc.

Gloria is the best example.
