Momo is hopeless these days... SB was stuck in the 1st set, but the scoreline suggests she wasted some SPs. She served for the 2nd set too.

I don't post in result threads when my favorites lose, aside from Elena's usually, but this is perhaps the most disappointing loss out of any of my favorites this year aside from maybe the AO 3R when Nadia choked something awful.

Momo is too good to lose to the likes of Tanasugarn. She must not give up,she should keep on playing its too early in the year to dismiss her.All she is dealing with are confidence issues.I am not a fan but she is a very good player and she needs a win or reach a final of an event to get her mojo back.

Mauresmo has always hated playing Tamarine. She always has difficulty with Tamarine's flat hitting game.

Bad loss for Mauresmo... we all know she is a better player, but it doesn't mean that Tammy's game is not effective against her.
Tammy is a former top 20 player and a tour veteran, she knows what she is doing out there.

Excellent scalp for Tammy, second time in her career she has taken Momo out. :)

I think it's more "spinning her wheels" (trans: "working hard but not getting anywhere")

It's a vicious cycle, she needs matches and she needs to get her confidence back or she won't play well. But she doesn't play well enough to get enough matches and boost her confidence...

Feb 20th, 2008, 09:31 PM
Definitely a lack of confidence, not motivation. I could tell that in her match against Dellacqua, so I'm assuming it continues. When she plays like that, she's not nearly aggressive enough and makes a shitload of errors to boot. I hope she keeps trying...she'd kick herself if she had to end it playing at this level.

New
Feb 20th, 2008, 09:38 PM
2001 wimbledon grass Tanasugarn 6-4 6-4
2002 australian Open hard Mauresmo 7-6(3) 6-1
2003 indian Wells hard Mauresmo 6-3 5-7 6-2
2003 us Openhard Mauresmo 6-2 6-2
2004 montreal Mauresmo 6-4 1-6 6-2

Other than the US Open win, which I heard Tammy was close (like 40-40), but did not convert the crucial points, all the matches were tough for Mauresmo who still managed to squeeze a win. So This was not quite a surprise.

But of course it must be noted that the previous 5 matches, Tammy was ranked between #25 to 50 though...Maybe that is why Momo's fans are so shocked now considering Tammy is currently at #98.

Tammy:bounce:

Momo's fans

She will bounce back... :) She needs time to regroup... most most importantly her drive to play tennis...

I speak from personal experience... Tammy was former top 20 and slided all the way down due to injuries and confidence fall... we all been through this...

It's definitely a lack of confidence that's for sure, because what has she done recently to give herself confidence? Something has to happen, she is far too talented to be this far down the rankings.

Could it not be that she is just going through a very bad slump? She's not that old - all she has to do is play one very good match and I think that might just give her the kick she needs. I hope so!

Wow...people really don't know the caliber of Tammy!
she was top 20 player almost knocking at the helms of the top 10 (a stretch i know... but she was on momentum before injury)...

She still has those deep flat groundstrokes.
She only lacks consistency and injury prone the past five years, sometimes low in confidence when playing, typical of touring veterans at the twilight of their career...BUt its not also surprising for her to produce stunning victories...

It's just unfortunate Tammy produced her best tennis this year against an ailing Amelie, but to discredit and underate her is pure disrespect!

In fact, ability & talent wise, tammy is better than most of the top 50....

France experienced a very bad day in tennis... Bartoli was dumped out, and now this.... :tape:

I think Amelie's time is almost up. She's burning up the last of her reserves at the moment. The Amelie of late 2005 - entire 2006 is now a distant memory. It's very sad to see her playing and losing like this....

People here is very pathetic. Tammy is a player with all tennis talents. She has below par physical capability (She is not that quick to run over every ball hitting at her, plus she is not that strong to hit the ball so hard), but her shot-making talents once took her to top 20. Her achievement is probably the best five female asian careers of all time only behind players like Date, Sugiyama, Basuki. I bet you any person having Tammy's physical cannot even be, say, top 200.
Woohoo, Tammy.

Tanasugarn has won over 2 million dollars, barely been out of the top 100 since 1996, made the 4th round of Wimbledon 6 times plus reached the same level at US and AUS opens and played more than 40 grand slam singles events.
That kind of laughs in the face of those who choose to be offensive to her. I'm sure her achievements mean much more than being able to write offensive crap and behave like a badly raised child on a public messageboard.

Horrible, horrible, horrible.

I really feel for Amélie just now. We all know she has the ability, if only she could find her confidence again. I volunteer to go looking for her Momojo!

Was really looking forward to watching her really test herself against Maria

Would somebody care to translate that into English for me? :) Something about messageboard ?

I suggest you read back some of the comments calling Tammy "garbage", that was what I was referring to. I don't get these people who find it necessary to slag players off.

She's not very tall, she isn't very fast , yet she still manages to achieve the most she can with her ability and effort. I think that is fantastic and will miss her when she finally retires (hopefully not for many years yet). :D

It's so stupid how a former world number one (and only basically a year ago she was still), a 2 time GS champion and a player considered to be a great loses to someone like Tamarine, who barely can win a 1r match at a Tier IV or V. Even Pratty has beaten Tamarine. :o

markdelaney
Feb 21st, 2008, 11:54 AM
Tammy beat Amelie in straight sets at Wimbledon 2001 when she was world number 6 and took her to three sets at Indian Wells in 2003 and Canadian Open in 2004 so not such a big shock after all

Respect to Tammy....

Tammy probably should not have won the match but look she handled the wind better than Amelie did so deal with it folks. The players have been struggling all week with it.

Don't think Tammy has a great shot against Maria but maybe this tournament will give Tammy the big boost she needs to give it one more big push for her to start being consistent again in matches.

LOL..love it. Why is everyone so quit to announce the retirements of players?? Its obvious Amelie is struggling but that shouldnt invite comments of she should give it up.
Should Kuzy retire- she lost today..should Venus retire..what about Chakvetadze.. all lost this week. Or Patty...or Petrova. This list goes on.

Amelie Mauresmo retire? That's about as nutty when they were saying Serena and Venus should retire.

Its not like Mauresmo's slump has extended past a year. Give her a break and allow to her to play out her career the way she chooses. Because something tells me when Amelie finally does catch fire, those of you who are calling for her retirement will be saying, "I knew she would get it back."

Weirdos
