Age isn't an excuse. Look at what the likes of Hingis and Seles did at the age of 16.

Marion's main problem is her fitness. If she doesn't improve it, she will keep slumping. Her talent has nothing to be discussed, you don't reach a Slam final with luck, you need talent. No doubt as well that Marion is better than Caroline, there is just to hating towards her and it's simply unbearable. People seem to prefer the lovely & young blondie over the chubby & atypic Marion for this only reason.

On the other side, I absolutely agree on the fact that Marion has nothing to do in top 10.

Agreed. I immensely agree.

Marion hasn't done much outside of Wimbledon and a couple of semifinals...but that's one more slam final than Chakvetadze and Hantuchova have made. :weirdo: And Dani's one of my favorite players.

She deserves to be where she is. She did nothing for half a year (first half of '07) and is top ten because of a wonderful second half. I'm disappointed she hasn't gotten enough points to solidify her spot in the top ten after Wimbledon, but there is still time.

Oh, and great win for Caroline, I'm ecstatic to see this result. :D She's my second favorite youngster (was my favorite for awhile) and I hope this is just the first of lots of great wins.

people are ignorant, chakvetadze holds 4 titles in the last 52 weeks, 2 of which are tier 2, a grand slam semi and qtr final, plus semis of YEC, miami and san diego (all tier 1 or better). yet that dosen't warrant a top 10 place.

Well actually, Caroline has never proved that she has a better potential than Marion. Both were excellent juniors, Caroline is good but she may not reach a GS final. Marion is still young too, once she gets confidence & fitness back, she will be harder to beat. But I simply can"t see any objective reason why Caroline had to beat Bartoli - except that Marion sucks ATM :o. It's more a question of tastes in my opinion.

With the form of the two players I only think it was fair that Caroline won! Caroline did amazing at the Australian Open and had before this tournament a 3-1 record. Bartoli only had a 3-3. What Im trying to say is that when looking at form of 2008 Caroline is ahead!! And that is the reason why she won - and the fact that she is more fit! (and therefor can handle the conditions and running around for longer!!)

You know, when I wrote my original post I wasn't trying to insult Caroline. I just don't believe Marion, as a top 10 player, should be losing to player ranked outside the top 50. Surely you can understand that.

Maybe Caroline is a future star; I haven't really see her play much, so I can't pass judgement on her abilities.

In response to the whole Marion slumping issue, I don't know about that. 3 of the 4 tournaments she has played so far this year have been in hot conditions outdoors-Marion doesn't play well in these conditions.

Marion is already in the history books from Wimbledon, and she did enough after Wimbledon to still maintain a top 10 position. She has been a steady pro for years and then became one of the best in the world last year. Caroline is new onto the tour, she still hasen't done much, if anything at all (yes, she's young, but you still can't compare her to Marion).

Apart from all that, and apart from the fact that only a few players are better than Marion right now, Marion is unique and fun to watch. Nobody else plays like her and that makes her achievements even more impressive. It's not as if she's another hard hitter with 1 handed forehand and 2 handed backhand.

Razzano is the only French woman raising her level this year. Rezai is doing ok well.

Bartoli, Golovin, Mauresmo, Cornet, Dechy, Pin are battling. Golovin's the only one with a decent excuse.

As much as i can't stand miss Cake i don't get why people are saying she doesn't deserve to be in top 10.To "deserve" to be in top 10 you need to play well.If it's one tournament or 30 tournaments it doesn't matter she got enough points to be ranked there so it's all good.But i agree she'll drop VERY soon...
