Anna lost in Antwerp and looked physically beat up.
She's the #5 seed in Doha, and it will be interesting to see if she can play well here
Feb 15th, 2008, 05:22 PM
Good luck, hope she'll be healthy enough to win the title :p
Feb 15th, 2008, 06:20 PM
I just hope she's healthy enough to win a round. We'll see from there what sort of shape she's in.
Feb 15th, 2008, 06:28 PM
She already lost to noone. And thats 5 (?) constructive week when shes playing...She cant ply every week, shes no Jankovic...She should be reasonable in chosing tournaments to play...
Feb 15th, 2008, 06:37 PM
Agree there was some bad scheduling there, however, it seems that most years this is when players are in their best conditions since they have just had the longest break of the entire year. Anna did not exactly have the normal break that most players get and that along with the back to back (etc) tournaments is taking its toll. I feel that most years the players probably load up the front end of their schedule since they know they will generally be healthier then. It's not working out this year though.
If she decides to play I hope she has a good performance and does not further aggravate any of the current injuries. Either way I'm 100% behind Anna. :yeah:
Is that for sure she is going to Doha? Any confirmation of that?
Feb 16th, 2008, 06:53 PM
If Anna is healthy this is a good draw, Jankovic's quarter.

First match against Na Li is not easy and also the next, but Anna draws the best option from the 4 top seed, she has a great record with Jankovic and then Jelena is probably not 100% fit.
Feb 17th, 2008, 11:53 PM
Good luck Anna  :hearts:

Feb 19th, 2008, 07:46 PM
This is a very good draw. But so was Antwerp and Melbourne
Feb 20th, 2008, 12:20 AM
Anna's come out on top against Na on hard courts in the past. Na's no pushover but a fully fit Anna should be okay. This will be a test of whether she is healthy again.
Feb 20th, 2008, 12:12 PM
good luck Anna!!!

Anna lost the first set. A bad way to start this tournament
Feb 20th, 2008, 01:43 PM
Oh my Anna is double-faulting her way out of Doha. :tape: :help:
Feb 20th, 2008, 01:47 PM
Anna has been awful this year except for Paris.
She's down a set and a break 67 12*
Feb 20th, 2008, 02:20 PM
Another match of wasted chances :bigcry:
Feb 20th, 2008, 02:22 PM
I wish Lena beat Li. Anna is giving matches away, Lena would be in the 3rd round.
This 1st set was as bad as it gets. You have 2 chances to serve it out, and 76 in the tb. 76(7) 64

Feb 20th, 2008, 02:52 PM
So many wasted chances in the first set. :(
Unfortunately I think the wind plays a negative role, because I remember the match Anna lost in Rome 2007, with same conditions.
Anna rest for Doha and then learn how to deal with this damn wind!
Feb 20th, 2008, 02:53 PM
Except for Paris, Anna could have stayed home the rest of the year. In 4 other tournaments, her only win is against Alisa.
Feb 20th, 2008, 03:04 PM
Anna , be strong , good luck
Feb 20th, 2008, 03:11 PM
Anna's game has been hot and cold since this year started. Sadly though it's been more cold than hot. She is obviously struggling with consistency and the strong wind today is not helping her cause. Although that is not a good excuse since her opponent also has to deal with the wind.
It's still too early to tell if this is going to be a bad year. There's a lot of time for her to find her groove playing outdoors. If she's still struggling like this in IW/Miami then it's time to get a bit worried.
Feb 20th, 2008, 05:53 PM
Anna in wind = disaster :bigcry:
Feb 20th, 2008, 06:47 PM
Well at least Anna didn't have any points to defend but this trip looks like a big waste of time now.
Anna's schedule hasn't been the greatest this year. Obviously I'm glad she went to Paris, but she went there and to Antwerp because she had a lot of points to defend. That plus her obligation to Fed Cup hasn't given her a break.
At the start of the year she wasn't mentally ready, then she was suffering physically. I'd like her to take a break but she's on the list for Dubai next week.
Feb 20th, 2008, 08:14 PM
Wtf Anna :confused::sad:
Disappointed... she started so well !
Feb 20th, 2008, 09:53 PM
She plays so many tournaments, these won't even count.
But it's not a smart idea to be playing every week.
Feb 20th, 2008, 10:27 PM
Well hopefully Anna will get some more rest now. :(
Come back from this stronger Anna, I still love and support you! :)
Feb 20th, 2008, 10:46 PM
Anna:sad:, I don't know if Dubai is a good idea...... maybe she should take a break
Feb 20th, 2008, 11:51 PM
I think Anna will come back stronger. Like this poem -
“Fight on, my men,” Sir Andrew Said
”A little I’m hurt but not yet slain.
”I’ll just lie down and bleed a while,
”And then I’ll rise and Fight again.”
Feb 20th, 2008, 11:55 PM
She has to play Dubai, today the conditions were difficult. Anna would not play until March in Miami, many weeks of rest. The patience is fundamental in your game and not to give points. Go Anna!!!
Feb 21st, 2008, 12:20 AM
What happened Anna? It is true that today towards a lot of wind, but Anna should have won...Anna play in Dubai?
Feb 21st, 2008, 06:16 PM
From the scores it looks like a lot of the top seeds struggled. Most of the matches were either 3 sets or close 2 set matches. Three of my top favorites did not make it to the quarters of this tournament (Anna, Dani, and Makiri) and I just read that Ivanovic had to pull out due to the ankle she injured. :(
