Well the problem is that many players just play to much and not give their bodies enough time to recover.

Mara Santangelo has been out for some time and we missed her out over the Aussie summer. She and Molik were a hot team and it would have been great to show the home crowd what they were capable of when winning Paris.

Bartoli today was injured in the end. On MP that Eurosport showed, Marion barely moved and hitted the last shot to the net with her left hand...

Tati and her injuries.

This back injury is, at the very least, her 5th or 6th serious injury.

A Review:
2004
Thigh injury in the summer
2005
Ankle problems in the summer
Leg/thigh(?) injury in Tokyo final causing her to retire and she was still right in the match
2006
Severe ankle injury in Miami that kept her out of the game for many months.
Another serious ankle injury in Zurich that causes her to retire leading Kirilenko 4-2. (She had just beaten Vaidisova 6-2, 6-0 in the previous round.)
2007
Upper-respiratory infection forcing withdrawal from Memphis.
Yet another serious ankle injury forcing her to retire from the Charleston QF. She had just won AI and was sidelined for two months.
Fourth serious ankle injury that causes her to retire in Linz after a suberb indoor season.
2008
Serious back injury that started in the first round of the Australian Open contributing to a 2R loss and (so far) causing withdrawals from Fed Cup and Antwerp.

And she just turned 20.

Too many hard courts. And too much of a power game now. I'm convinced of it. Plus many players didn't use to play the Australian Open so they had a longer rest period. I think many records of the 60s and 70s wouldn't hold up if those players were playing today.

I thought that the WTA's new schedule was designed to prevent injuries?

It starts in 2009. :p But it won't anyway, coz it's hardly any better than the schedule now. ;)
