Moscow, February 4, 2008 – Maria Sharapova, listed among the world’s top tennis players, has pledged her support for Moscow’s bid to host the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in 2010: “I have said in the past that both Moscow and Singapore are strong candidates to host the first edition of the Youth Olympic Games. My heart beats for Moscow and I hope it will be elected to stage these Games.”

Speaking at a press conference, following the Federation Cup draw in Israel, Maria Sharapova noted: “I am confident Moscow has all it needs to deliver an unforgettable global youth festival.”

For more than 50 years, Russia has developed sport as a tool for providing its youth with healthier lives. Sports education is an integral part of its educational system. Moscow has over 208 sports facilities to serve youth sport. The city of Moscow currently is home to 96 large stadiums, over 2,500 gyms, 184 swimming pools, 26 ice rinks, 18 sports palaces, 10 schools dedicated to athletic advancement, 5 educational centres and 3 Olympic reserve training schools. Thousands of kids take part in Moscow’s multiple sports events and dedicated programs every year.

Isn't she from Siberia?
She was born in Nyagan, a small Russian town, not in "Siberia". There is no such country as "Siberia". And Moscow is a capital of Russia so what is so strange about the fact that she shows her support being born in Russia? I can't get it. Btw, she was also involved in Moscow bid for Summer Olympics of 2012 that went to London.
