Successful Debut for María
http://www.hindu.com/2005/05/24/images/2005052403772101.jpg
Amelia Island, Florida
María Sanchez Lorenzo made her debut on the ATC tour this week in the Bausch and Lomb Championships. In the round of 32, María had to play Tatiana Golovin of France. In set 1, María took a 2 break lead by being up 5-2 with her aggressive play off her 2 handed-backhands off both sides. María started to get nervous and make a lot of unforced errors and Tatiana hit winners to level it at 5-5. Tatiana served 4 straight aces and broke María to take set 1 7-5.
http://estaticos02.cache.el-mundo.net/elmundodeporte/imagenes/2006/12/08/1165607655_0.jpg
Set 2, Tatiana stormed off to a 4-2 lead using her big forehand. But María used her speed and power to level the match at 4-4. Tatiana played another loose game to give the break to María to serve for the second set. María easily held serve at love with 2 aces and 2 backhand winners. Set 3, it was all María as she stormed past Tatiana 6-1 as Tatiana double faulted on Match point. María will play the winner of Molik vs. Paszek next
In her post match interview María said, "I am glad with how I played, I was nervous, but I got over it to pick up the win. Tatiana played well and I have respect for her game, but I felt like I played a bit better."

Hingis Wins Debut Match!

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/501/1mhpic430.jpg

In Hingis first ever match on the ACT tour, she took out the 5th seed, Anastasia Myskina, in three sets. Hingis started off a bit rusty, and it was evident she lacked experience, as she choked a set point to lose the first set 8-6 in the tiebreak. However, Hingis quickly learned from her mistakes, and was able to take the second set easily, losing just a single game. The third set saw terrific tennis by both Myskina and Hingis. The score was close until Hingis was able to break at 4-4, and she successfully was able to serve out the match and move into the round of 16. Hingis' next opponent will be Dominguez Lino, who walked right into the round of 16 without playing a match.

"It feels so great to be able to win my first match on the tour, especially against a top 5 player. I hope this shows what I'm capable of, and that I have a very successful career ahead of me. I know I will have a lot of supporters rooting for me to do well, and that helps a lot. I never want to disapoint the fans. I think I could have started off better in this match, but because I was so close to taking it, I think that gave me more confidence going into the next set. I think I will enjoy playing on this tour, and I want to be all that I'm capable of. I'm just going to take it one match/tournament at a time, and hope to improve my ranking. I don't have any goals set so far because I don't want to beat myself up if I don't achieve them. I'm looking to just have fun an play my best."

7-6(2), 4-6, 6-2

What a first match to kick things off with! Ana/Ai had a 5-1 lead in the first set and Sania/Shahar fought back and from that point on, it was a series of battles until the third set were Ana/Ai unleashed the beasts within them and blow Sana/Shahar off the courts. Congrats Ana/Ai!

:worship::worship::hearts: This was the match of the day!! Both teams fought so hard against each other, this match had five coin tosses in all. Gisela/Maria were so agressive but they lacked the stamina to win as the match went longer. In the second set the French duo stepped up their game and unleashed the beast all over their opponents but in the third set, Ana/Ai were just to agressive to fend off any longer and they secure their spot in the finals. Anna/Maria's style was so much like their opponent's. The the only difference is that they had 1 ace, Jelena/Martina had 3. Golovin's 5 French Guys of the Week

Hey guys.

I might not be as popular as the other French girls on tour like Natalie, Sev and Amelie but hopefully after a few of these blogs, Iíll get more people supporting me at tournaments which will hopefully lead to my rise up the ATC rankings. Every week I will make a list of my top 5 guys of the week from a particular country. This week Iíll start with my own France. Feel free to comment and I hope you enjoy it.

Number 5

http://i29.tinypic.com/200v0y9.jpg

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Gee this guy has improved so much over the last season. He is such a fantastic all-court player and with that serve he can do anything. He has had wins over Rafa, Andy Murray, Richy Gasquet and Lleyton (stop cheering LDL  :p) this sseason and has catapulted his ranking into the top 20. Although he might be a star on-court he doesnít know how to teach a women in bed. Hopefully heíll improve as he stardom grows and can put that 8 and a half incher to good use.

Number 4

http://i28.tinypic.com/96w6t4.jpg

Arnaud Clement

Arnaud is one of the most crafty players on the ATP tour. Although heís of a shortish statue he court speed is amazing. If he can start beating top player regularly he would be a huge threat on tour. He gets into number 4 because his amazing doubles play (which by the way, I donít do mixed doubles  ) Heís won Wimbledon along with another 9 incredible titles. Another strength of Arnaud is his bandanas. He wraps them in some hot places and has a different one each time. Arnaud also doesnít take of those glasses encase he squirts himself in the eye after seeing his amazing abs for 31 year old.

Number 3

http://i32.tinypic.com/vdhfs1.jpg

Fabrice Santoro

Fabrice gets number 3 because he is one of the most nicest people I have ever met. When I became pro he gave me so much advice and tips that I couldnít thank him enough. He has an amazing sense of humour that gets everyone on both the ATC and ATP tour laughing their heads off. At 35 years old I donít want Fabrice to retire since he has been like a older brother to me. Now onto his tennis! Fabrice has 29 titles altogether which mostly includes 24 doubles titles. Some shots he can come up with are amazing and I wish I could take that part of his game and put it into mine. Iím hoping once he retires heíll coach a French players which will hopefully be me.

Number 2

http://i26.tinypic.com/ab7uc.jpg

Gael Monfils

This 6Ē4 giant is one of the most explosive layers on tour. That forehand is faster than my serve and he has amazing court speed for his size. Although injuries have struck him down this hasnít stopped him in his hotel room. With a 10 incher he can play amazing delicate drop shots before he can ace me or pound down a forehand. He can hold it for all night and doesnít get tired which let us go for all night, making some other French girls describe him as a jackhammer. Some say he has an ugly face but he makes up for it when you go further with the best abs and snake I have ever encountered. If he could improve his tennis we would see him at number 1.

Number 1

http://i29.tinypic.com/2rnbrdi.jpg

Richard Gasquet

Richard is one of my best friends and the best French player on tour. With a world class backhand Richy is at number 7 on the rankings with amazing consistency on tour. As well as an amazing 7 titles at his age Richard is a great ambassador of the sport. Richard and I have never made love, but I feel we are coming together as a couple. His eyes are one of the most beautiful sites on the planet making it impossible to keep your eyes off him. Weíre both Lacoste players and love attending t he player parties together. I wish this incredible guy good luck on the tour and I hope to see him very soon.

Thatís it for now,
Tatiana Golovin

Unseeded Russian Maria Kirilenko, in what can only be described as an act of God, has somehow managed to string three victories together to reach her first Semifinal of the year on the ATC circuit by beating Top 10 player Alicia Molik today 7-6 6-4.

Kirilenko, known for spending hours on court but folding like a cheap whore on a breezy night by the end of each match, has revealed that an annoymous fan letter has inspired her performance this week in Amelia Island.

"Yes, well I have to say, I may struggle with my tennis most of the time, but I have fans that keep me going. I got an annoymous fan letter before my Quarterfinal match I'd like to share that letter with you" :hearts:

Newcomer Anna Kournikova has reached her first tour final, winning all of her matches in straight sets. After encouraging word from her fellow Russian and glamour girl, Maria Kirilenko, Kournikova was inspired to make a name for herself and reach new heights.

Strangely, the last person she must defeat is best friend and doubles partner, Maria Kirilenko.

"I mean, like yeah, I think there's going to be like lots of leads gone like always. We aren't the best at holding our composure. I'm sure it will be a great final nonetheless with stylish clothes and beautiful tennis!" :hearts:

Kirilenko Reigns in Amelia

http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/3/global/photogallery/2005/beijing/f_15.jpg

Unseeded Maria Kirilenko continued a dream run in Amelia Island, winning three matches in one day to capture her maiden title.

The day kicked off with a Quarterfinal match win over seeded Alicia Molik, before Kirilenko was sent back on court to combat another seeded player, Jelena Jankovic. We still don't know how she did it, but Kirilenko was actually able to outlast someone in a third set and won it by a score of 7-6 2-6 6-3.

But the day was not over yet. This Amelia Island Event, beset by a late start as half the tour did not make it to the tournament on time, had to scramble to finish the tournament on time. We're still wondering what happened to Nicole Vaidisova.

http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/3/global/photogallery/2005/beijing/f_16.jpg
Caption: Kirilenko celebrates her first tour victory

Kirilenko immediately went back on court to face fellow Russian Anna Kournikova, clearly the new player of the year so far on tour. Kirilenko was able to hold her nerve in two tight sets and escaped with a 7-5 6-4 win for her first ever tour victory.

"Umm, I'm still shocked, I mean even when I was up 5-4 in the second, I'm wondering: Okay, what's going to go wrong, how am I going to let Anna in, but I was able to focus and close it out. I'm really proud and it gives me a lot of confidence after a disaster of a Rebound Ace season. Thanks for nothing, Australians! Next Stop - Top 10! :hearts: But Anna played great, I really had to play unbelieveable tennis to comeback in both sets and I think she has a great future!"

Kirilenko's book, "There's light at the end of the tunnel even when it looks like your career is a trainwreck" is due to hit stores next month.

Jelena Jankvoic/Martina Hingis def. Ana Ivanovic/Ai Sugiyama

6-3, 1-6, 7-5

:bowdown::worship: What a marathon match! After Jelena/Martina took the first set, I was sure that they would take the second set maybe by tiebreaker but Ana/Ai never stopped fighting. In the second set, Ana/Ai dominated the court with their aggressive style of play and blew Jelena/Martina off the court. In the third, it was so close with so many cointosses. Congrats to Jelena Jankovic and Martina Hingis for winning the first doubles tournament of Season 2! :hearts::bounce: And a congrats to Ana Ivanovic and Ai Sugiyama, our runners-up! Congrats ladies!
