I dunno, maybe somebody from Israel could tell us what exactly happened during the ninth game? When the Israeli coach went to Alves.

Feb 3rd, 2008, 11:02 AM
Supervisor on the court trying to calm down the crowd.
NOW it's a penalty point for Israel but Chakvetadze loses her serve anyway...

Feb 3rd, 2008, 11:03 AM
Chakve is getting crazy ;) I love it when she does her ironic outbursts like against Safina in Moscow, I think :P

you would think Alves would have been scared off being controversial after her embarrassing call in that Serena vs Capriati match. She's the one who fined Jankovic's mum for coaching even though she's not her coach and Alves said doesn't speak Serbian

About time. Get a trainer in to tame them.

Mikey.
Feb 3rd, 2008, 11:22 AM
She's quite tough, but in the most part quite fair  (Bar one big mishap as we all know of. Even umpires have bad days, they are human after all)

rules should be respected. Crowd there is just horrible.

We won 3-1 and only this matters now :wavey:

I only watched the final stages of the Pova - Peer game and I found the crowd to be way better than yesterday, great atmosphere without unfair calls and so.

Once more this joke of an umpire got the crowd into the match - they got upset after another string of her horrible calls.
The best team won, but she's just awful. And the penalty point was absurd.

Mariana shows she's got some balls again.

If she did that, good for her. But--once again--courage is NOT a male quality.

There was no point penalty. She was forced by match supervisor to replay the point at 15:30, as he judged that crowd's noise during the point affected umpire's decision. That's all.

Wow and to think that there were like 50 threads only about Israel's crowd :help:

People find something meaningful to talk about...

BTW, Alves is a bitch, I hate since the Serena-Capriati match.

According to Russian news sources Russia has filed an official complaint to ITF ( http://rian.ru/sport/20080203/98267996.html ) on umpire work saying that by regulations umpire should have point-penalised Israeli team for crowd noise many times. I guess, this time Russians just decided to play it to the end, but, I guess, if it was not a mickey mouse team like Israel and it would have been closer, Russians could have made some sharper decisions during the match, like getting players of the court.

I think its their good right to do so giving they have won the tie. Otherwise it would have looked a bit ... excuse-esque.

Safina had the toughest time in her first match and what she had to endure was inhuman. If the ITF can help make Fed Cup ties in Israel more pleasant it will be of advantage for all parties. And part of it will have to be telling all umpires how to do their job better in these extreme situations, so that everyone is treated the same.

Btw, Shamil was as impressive as ever. He didnt let anything get to him and I believe that helps all of his players (davis and fed cup) so much :)
