So far 1991 seems to be a poor year of tennis players to be born. No 16 year olds in the top 200, the highest being Ksenia Pervak and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who are ranked around the 300 mark.

You are not kidding about 1991, it is still early days but one would have expected a greater representation of girls from this year. This time last year Paszek, Wozniacki, Cornet and Morita were all in the top 200 already. But this year we have just seven 1991ers in the top 500 and none ranked higher than 293. It will be interesting to see if this continues to be a poor year or if the 1991 crew are just slow getting started.

Alot of nice players in both the 1990 and especially the 1989 crews however. I'm sure Urszula Radwanska will join those 1990ers in the top 200 very soon too.

Interesting to note the nationalities of these players too. Roughly half are from Central/East Europe. Asia is pretty well represented with 3 players. South America have one. Even the UK and US have one.

Are you concerned about her seemingly constant injuries?

Some super talents on that list. Pity Vika's injured, she was starting to hit her straps. :(

On the form she showed against Ivanovic, Sorana Cirstea will be a gun. In fact it's hard not to pick a gun from that impressive list.

What seemingly constant injuries would those be? She did her knee in 2005, and has not been injured since then till end of Nov last year. So why would I be worried?

Are you really that dense? I just told you, she wasn't injured for 2.25 years - from about September 2005 - December 2007. SO please tell me how that is being "always injured"? If you were talking about Golovin, then that'd be different - she IS always injured. So again, why should I be worried abut Misa?

Update:Every year yours "The New Bread" threads is very interesting for me and thank you for great job :worship:. But one thing i realy dont like - why you always insist on same TOP200 border for all girls (younger and older) ??? For example for this "The New Bread 2008" i think will be much better formula:

for 1989 girls - TOP150
for 1990 girls - TOP250
1991 & younger - TOP400

That means instead from original list:
151. Yanina Wickmayer (20/10/89)
154. Regina Kulikova (30/1/89)
175. Mariana Duque Marino (12/8/89)
189. Naomi Cavaday (24/4/89)
194. Corinna Dentoni (30/7/89)

To watch on:
238. Jessica Moore (16/8/90)
245. Madison Brengle (3/4/90)
251. Michelle Larcher De Brito (29/1/93)
291. Ksenia Pervak (27/5/91)
305. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (3/7/91)
322. Melanie Oudin (23/9/91)
328. Petra Martic (19/1/91)
352. Polona Hercog (20/1/91)

(Instead current 28 to watch on 31)

Also this is your thread so nobody will stop you to give to some interesting girls which not qualify "Wilde Cards" like for example Sesil Karantantcheva, Arantxa Rus, Coco Vandeweghe, Asia Muhammed... etc

Thanks for the suggestions, I will consider it. I knew that its better to have a lower standard for the younger girls, but I don't really want it to be too complicated by having different marks for everyone.

I originally picked top 200 because thats the ranking where they will be able to enter either WTA tournaments or qualifying, or high challengers like 75K or 50K. Below top 300 they are playing 10K events which arent so interesting to report on.

Below top 300 they are playing 10K events which arent so interesting to report on.Look titles of threads from last week and you will notice many threads about players like De Brito, Coco, Asia, Madison, Sesil, Pavlyuchenkova... which is all teenagers curently out of TOP200. On other hand who realy care right now about 1989 girls out of TOP150 (former teenage sensation and TOP50 Sesil is exception with good reason).

Also if we talking about ability of some player to playing some tournaments level it's not always connected only with theys current rankings. Young players with impressive juniors career or for example best American young prospects at american tournaments even with realy bad rank always have good chances to reach without problems WC even at WTA tour events not only at 50K or 75K ITF tournaments. And also without doubt you will always much easy find some informations about players like De Brito or Karantantcheva than about some much better ranked (but out of TOP150) mediocre 1989 girl.

So i'm still thinking that will be better if you change in near future your universal TOP200 border for "The New Bread" threads series about current best WTA teenagers and use some more efective criteria so i suggest you one of possible options which seems better to me (if you change in that my proposal for 1991 girls and younger instead TOP400 to TOP300 - you will have exactly same number players to watch and switch instead 5 TOP150-200 1989 girls with 5 litle worse ranked but younger). Also i not understand why you deny theyself freedom to give to some young player WC for "Girl to watch" status - this is yours thread at last. Perfect example is Sesil which is realy right now 19yo "Girl to watch" but her rank is so bad that only if you give her some kind of "WC" here she will be on your current "The New Breed" list.

*Vaidisova still in a slump, and drops to #4 on this list after being #1 for so long.

*Pavlyuchenkova breaks the top 200 and is now at #136 after qualifying and reaching R2 at Roland Garros. She is the highest ranked player born in 1991 and the only one from 1991 in the top 200.

*Welcome back to the top 200 to Sesil Karatancheva, returning after her 2 year drug ban. She has won two 25K titles and reached a 50K final to get her ranking back up.
