This is scheduled as Serena's second official tournament of the year. Looks like a decent field. It sure would be nice to see her follow up her QF with a win here.

Good luck Serena!

Mission of revenge:

QF: def. Mauresmo (for US Open 2006)
SF: def. Dementieva (for Moscow 2007)
F: def. Chakvetadze (for YEC 2007)

Serena, this is your mission, if you choose to accept it. I will gladly follow you along your way and hope you demolish the field and win this title for the... 3rd time?

I think she'll play this event and who knows maybe before Miami she can come in with a couple of titles under her belt. She totally owns the field, but a couple of girls can put up a real fight. This is actually a great tournament following Oz. Can't wait for it to begin.

Anyone know if it will be telivised in the US?

 Oh Serena... another tournament, another year, and again, ANOTHER WITHDRAW. Either she's got one of the worse ever immune systems or she's simply one of the most unprofessional players on tour. All these withdraws are way too commonplace and way too hard to justify. Disappointing, to say the least... :help:

:( I don't understand her sometimes.

Neither do I, try as I may. If I was a tournament director I would never use her to promote any event. She's given herself a bad reputation in her sport and she's got no one to blame for that except herself. I would be so disappointed if was a fan and bought a ticket just to see her.

The WTA should make a rule that if you sign up for an event you MUST attend the event. They can't make you play if your injured or sick, but you should still be required to attend the event. That way fans would still get a chance to see her. Her constant withdrawals are annoying as hell.... :fiery:

I feel bad but I'm glad I have Ana Ivanovic to fall back on. She's my new favorite and who I root for at events when V&S aren't there. I love her!

Serena Williams pulls out of Paris Open

PARIS, Feb 1 (Reuters) - American Serena Williams has pulled out of the Paris Open women's tennis tournament starting on Monday because she needs dental surgery, organisers said on Friday.
The former world number one, who won the event in 2003, will be replaced as the second seed in the draw by Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova. (Reporting by Patrick Vignal, Editing by Clare Fallon)
