Payback for what? For winning slams?

By the by I heard this in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007. Every year for the last 4 years people have said the WS will never win a slam. And yet they've won 4 slams.

That's okay because even if they are they will always be two of the best female athletes ever as well trailblazers for other women on tour! They must have beat your favorites far too much! Get over it hater!

They've BEEN on the decline since 2004, and actually the last 3 slams have been an improvement for Venus actually if you think about it. She hadn't made 3 consecutive QFs at majors since 2003.

I love these threads too. It just shows the level of maturity of some posters. To me, Venus and Serena looked both injured and not into their matches. I don't think they should have played doubles after Serena lost. And yes, I'm playing the injury card because you could tell they were not hitting their usual shots as well as they could. But I give credit to both Jelena and Ana, they took advantage and they played their usual game and won. Well contested match, with Ana playing better on the big points. Venus needs to still work on her serve and forehand and even her backhand was not it's usual self.

No payback isnt a bitch but i know your'e acting lil one though...Man please sit down...this topic is wack and lame lol...you are just still bitter that Sharapova handed your girl her ass the other night lol...at least Venus had a tie break and loss the second by 1 break. Venus and Serena still makes more money, draw bigger crowds, and more popular...even if they were on a decline...

Venus made the quater finals of the AO forthe first time since 2003. Quarters for Serena is still a good showing. Any both sisters lost pretty tight matches, relatively. Could have been worse... could have been bagelled and violated all kinds of ways.

Why is it that Vee and Serena are always in decline to some people but these same folks say nothing about players who haven't won a slam yet. Nobody is dominating the WTA Tour. Henin is gone and the Williams aren't winning them all just like the res tof the WTA Tour. Yet Venus and Serena are still pulling out slam wins often enough but are in a decline?? LAUGHABLE.

NICE BUMP.

They already baked the cake. It's been iced for years. They're now enjoying the taste of it. So if they don't win all the slams that's fine.

Venus AND Serena won slams this year. :worship:

Venus and Serena are the ONLY two people EVER on the WTA who can actually play a couple of tournaments and not win any of them, then just walk into a Grand Slam and win the entire thing.

Dinara Safina had a great Summer run because the field she was playing against doesn't possess the talent of Venus and Serena. Yeah they may beat the sisters at a regular tournament or occassionally get a win over them at a Grand Slam. They played all year long in an effort to keep their ratings high and to prepare them for the Grand Slams, and they still keep coming up short.

Venus, Serena, Richard, Oracene, and their siblings are all a team. Yes, Venus and Serena will sometimes have to play against each other, but their ultimate goal is to take all of the titles that matter and all of the money.

Venus won Wimbledon and I think she earned $1.5M and Serena earned second place, plus with their doubles title Brad Gilbert said they walked away with $2.8M. Serena won the USO and the Williams collected another $1.4M plus what Venus earned in her quarter match.

That's why the WTA purposely put Venus and Serena on the same side at the USO because they know that they will waltz right through the draw and take all of the money. So they will put them on the same side of the draw from now on, or until Venus gets her ranking up.

Someone posed the question would Serena still be #1 at the end of the year. And it really doesn't matter if Venus or Serena is not #1 at the end of the year because they've once again exposed the failure of the ranking system.

Richard and Oracene has won 2 of the 4 Grand Slams and the most money once again. Venus and Serena is older than the other players and they are still stronger, faster, and have an athletic sluperiority.

The only thing that was making me mad tonite during Jelena's and Serena's match was how Jelena started complaining about Serena taking too much time. She was not taking too much time. She was saying that Serena was being unsportsman like. She had plenty of opportunitites to break and win the sets, but she kept on laughing like an idiot instead of concentrating about how she was going to construct her next point.

Jelena and Elena will never win a Grand Slam because they don't have the ONE important weapon (a big serve) that's needed. They play an entire game of defense and they need an offensive game as well.

I also love threads like this. Just proves that as many times people write the Williams Sisters off, they keep proving everyone wrong. Both Venus and Serena's games have shown maturity, especially the USO and Wimby. If Serena and Venus continue to play the way they have in 2008, they will do really well towards the end of their career. When they were younger, they could run every shot down and power through the ball. But they don't have to do that anymore. They are playing with a lot more patience and consistency. I was amazed to see that Serena was not losing her patience or just going for winners. She totally played within herself. Jankovic was hitting harder at times, while Serena turned on the defense. When she found the right shot, she hit it hard. I'm just so glad she won another major, because her and her sister will further themselves from the rest of the pack.

Younger generations are coming.

WS's 2008 = Steffi Graf's 1996

I remember after Steffi won USopen beating Seles, people easily concluded she will dominate tennis for a few more years. She was 27 at that time. Little did they know that Hingis will become number 1 the following year and Graf never came back to be number 1.

Um what? Hingis ended her career 2-7 (or something like that) and lost their penultimate match, the 1999 French Open. Plus, I would die of shock if Venus ever got back to number one. I love her to death but she isn't consistent nor does she play enough to get back to number one, but she only spent 11 weeks there anyway. She also didn't win anything during her time at #1. So EVERYTHING she's won in her career, she won it not being ranked #1, so what's your point?

Lol. I love to wake up to epic fail in the morning.

And it's the usual trolls stomping around in this thread. ;)

The truth of the matter is Serena will win at least a half dozen more slams, and Venus still has a better chance of capturing a slam than any of the other women (minus Serena) on tour. -

No one is capable of challenging Serena right now, especially in slams. There are probably 6 women that could take a set off Serena when she is playing well.

Thank you whoever bumped this because people are eating a lot of crow right now. Serena has won how many more majors since this dipshit posted this? 5?!!

And while Venus hasn't won a major since Wimbledon 2008, this has actually been one of her most consistent years in awhile.

Justine is nine months younger than Serena and is 28yrs old and battling injuries with a bad serve.I think Justine is not interested in playing a lot, since she lost at Wimbledon the reason of her comeback she has disappeared..next year she will be 29yrs at this time and I dont see her winning Wimbledon ever.Serena is very strong barring injury she will be winning slams until she retires.:tape:Justine is retiring in two yrs with little to show for her comeback.:p

Thank god for that smiley at the end :p

No, I will not take your post seriously.

You complained when this thread was created?

It's telling that it bothers you so much.

You guys are such a bunch of hypocrites

When Jelena won IW, did you not post in the 'Jankovic is quickly becoming irrelevant ' thread ?

oh and you didn't post to tell the jelena fans to not gloat, but instead decided to tell a hater that he was wrong! But when we do the same, we get critisized.

I see.

Why? He is right, Justine is going to retire within two years, and Serena will have more than the double of Slams that Justine will have at the end of her career.

When will people learn?! This is how our people do things.

back then: They talk too much, they don't wanna nada. Bam Serena wins the Open and Vee goes on to Wimbledon and Open back to back.
When people blah blah about IW '01 event. They said, ok..so people wanna see williams all the time? Then we give 'em Williams all the time. From ' 01 u.s. open till ' 03 Wimbledon..only TWO major finals was NOT all-Williams! And then they become boring.

Then Jennifer started to trash-talk Serena fter ' 01 Wimbledon..bam, lost 8!! straight matches to Serena.

Maria became the next best thing because of her win over Serena at '04 Wimbledon? Only won ONE match against Serena since..

And of course, Pat Cashhhh!! :haha:
These girls just LIVE to prove people wrong.

What is the story behind it?
Did Venus and Serena did something to you? or To your Fave?

Not sure why this thread is bumped cuz it's still right

Venus's decline started exactly at the time the OP said it did.

Effectively there is no longer a "WS" to speak of - there is only "SW".

The good ( or bad thing depending where you stand) thing about TF, is you don't have to say that you are wrong.
So this thread will continue to live on, and people who hate the WS will keep posting the same kind of comment they did when the thread was first created... as if the premise of the thread is still true.

It is a responsibility-free world, this TF.

Nice try, but yours is a non-workable logic.

WS was not meant as team by the author of the thread, but as individuals. Tennis is an individual sport as you know.
If one of the 2 individuals win a GS, the premise of the thread is no longer true.

Venus is in steep decline. I don't think she will ever win another major. Her great years on tour are over.

I don't think Serena is in her prime either. While she is still very good, she is not where she was in the early 2000s when she was in her peak prime. However she is so good that even being on the slight downside of her prime will still allow her to be a factor at majors for the next 4-5 years.

In the sense that every single day we are one day closer to our eventual demise, then yes of course the Williams sisters are in decline.

But then again in that sense every single player in the game is in decline. Indeed every single one of US is in decline along with all our friends and family.

And on that happy note I think I will finish.

I am against this kind of censorship. I had an opinion back in 2008 that it wasn't quite right after all. I don't need to hide the fact that I was wrong. I am humble enough to know that I'm quite wrong in some stuff, unlike some people on this board who think that everything they say is a law.

I see no reason why to delete this thread. It was actually a quite decent thread back in the day. I just see no reason to bump it either.
