Im pretty sure she will be playing qualies, cause of her old ranking. She was given a Qualies WC, which they wouldnt have given unless she needed it.

Feb 11th, 2009, 11:09 AM
Okay, she has a WC into quallies BUT she will be the #1 seed/highest ranked player in the qualifying draw. If there is a late withdrawal, does that mean Jelena would move into the MD?
Just thought I'd add to the confusion. :D

Just thought I'd add to the confusion. :D

Whoever was next in on the entry list would get in if a withdrawal occurred, even if Jelena is currently higher ranked than that player. If she did use her # 91 ranking as a late entry, she would be first in if there was a withdrawal.

I'd prefer her in the MD's of tournaments from now on. Yeah, before she needed matches to get used to playing at the WTA level again, but honestly, I think she should be pretty used to it by now. I don't agree. When Jelena was at her best in the early 2000'S, she played ALOT, she's the kind of player that needs alot of matches to keep the momentum and confidence with her and that is when she does great.

she over played...this is a factor in the burn out! i think her dad was influeing her to play too much possibly financial reasons?? and it led to fatigue.......

I think Jelena will be fine and will have momentum as long as she doesnt take months off at a time like in the past...a week or two here and there is good for her mind and body!

I don't think she was ever fatigued, I mean she did that a couple of years in a row and had big success all those years. But anyway I still agree with you that it's a good idea to play a little less than 30 tournaments a year (20-25 would be ideal maybe) but I just think three weeks of not playing in a row in the early season is a long break.

AN EXHAUSTED Jelena Dokic yesterday bombed out of the Indian Wells Open, lamenting scheduling blunders.
The Australian Open quarter-finalist has not returned to her Monte Carlo base since September after saving her career with a brilliant Melbourne Park effort.
The baseliner was yesterday beaten 6-4 6-2 by American veteran Jill Craybas.
The defeat prompted Dokic to consider flying back to Europe before the WTA Championships in Miami from March 25.
"I've been really struggling mentally and I just need to settle down and get myself together again," Dokic said.
"I've been really tired for the last few weeks. After Melbourne, I did a huge mistake with my schedule. I played Fed Cup and then didn't go home straight away.
"Pretty much, I've played only tournaments for my own game and my own ranking since Australia and it's March.
"So it's a big mistake and I'm probably paying for (it) right now. With all that together, it's been six months since I've been home."
Dokic started the season ranked 178th in the world. She is now 80th and certain of main-draw places at the French Open and Wimbledon.

She should definitely play Miami to see where her game is at and how she feels. If she still feels tired and in need of a break, then she should take a few weeks off and go home. Personally, I don't think the it would be a bad decision to miss a couple weeks of the clay season if she needs a break.

I think she should just try and rest up in the States, and play Miami. If she loses early in Miami and she feels like she still needs rest, then maybe fly back home for a week or so. I mean she just lost a match she probably should have won before she made those quotes, so who knows, she might win a couple of matches in Miami and completely change her perspective.

There's no point in half assing this break and staying in the US for another fortnight just for Charleston. Better to do it right, get home, get some rest, and come back revitalised. Plus, coming back against a Schnyder-less, Bacsinszky-less Switzerland will probably be an ideal return to competition.

Those are lower tier events so i'm pretty sure she would be able to get into the MD based on her current ranking.

Yeah and the stupid tourney people always put her on courts that weren't on tv, yet had cameras :help:

I remember Fes too. :hearts: I remember jumping up and down during her match against Larsson on livescore. :rolls: Only Jela could make me have to leave the room from getting too nervous watching a livescore. :o
