I see we are back to 2005 Jelena though where we commit to a whole bunch of random tournaments then withdraw.

Why is everyone so obsessed with knowing what she is doing all the time? She's probably just taken a break from competing (of which she's already done a lot this year) to work on her game/fitness or try something new with her strokes.

Calm down and stop treating her like she's still an 18 year old who needs guidance. I think she has shown this year she is capable of making smart decisions.

Luxembourg.

She's 51st alt. in Lux, 62nd in Linz. Most players would rather play Linz, which is a Tier 2, so I think she's got a good chance of making the qualy field in Lux.

But these tournaments take place several weeks from now. I sure hope she'll be playing before then!

She got a WC

Can someone translate this ? If I understood right tournament director said she works with Jelena on her come back ?

the rocky way back - dokic receives a wc for the quallies in linz

she was one of the protagonists of the international tennis stage, was a quartefinalist at wimbledon as a 16-year-old, even reached the semis the next year at the tennis-mekka played on grass. at august 2002 she climbed up to 4 in the rankings and for the tennis experts it was only a matter of time till she reached the nr.1 spot as well.

but it wasnt meant to be. family problems with her father, changing to australian citizenship then back to serbian and again back to australian and a failed relationship to the formula 1 pilot enrique benoldi completely threw her off her path. we're talking about jelena dokic here, who is fighting really hard to make a comeback to the wta tour and who will receive a bit of help from sandra meichelt during this difficult period. the tournament director of the generalies linz tournament has given the 25-year-old a qualification wildcard to the classic tennis tournament boasting 600000 $ in prize money and held in the intersport arena.

Jelena Dokic style of play has always impressed. i think its remarkable how she's fighting her way back step by step. i hope we can help her to continue her successful comeback by giving her a qually wc (explains reichel). the winner of 5 wta tournaments has good experiences here. she reached the final here in 2001 only losing to davenport and then she made the qf twice once losing to rubin in 02 and to sugiyama in 03.

how rocky the way back really is, is reflected in the amount of prizemoney she's earned during the first part of the righthanded players career and the second one. she had earned 3.8 million dollars in the first part and only 23.936 dollars in the current season. - and that with a good ratio of 34 wins to only 9 losses. the reason: dokic, that had only played one match in 2007 and thus fell out of the ranking, is not playing only the wta tour, but the itf tour atm. with tournament wins in florentina, caserta (where she beatr patricia mayr) and darmstadt the australian has shown, that she's still knows how to swing a racket. dokic wants to prove that in the generali ladies linz, having already climbed to the 181st spot in the wta-rankings.

Really looking forward to it. Hope she will make a good result in Linz and of course-in 2009. That was definitely a surprise for me. I remember that tournament in 2001 when she played Davenport...These matches,in the European indoor season, were great. Especially Moscow... Now,back to the thread... I hope she will enter some tournaments by the end of the year. She needs some points to rise in the list so she could enter some events without qualies,or in the worst case, be a seed in the same. The media in Serbia are saying that the director of the Generali Ladies Open gave her a QWC. They want to help her come back into the top. The director also said that the game style of Dokic has always impressed her and she hopes that with this WC they can help her with the come back to the big scene. I must say that I first read this in a Serbian media, which was very strange. Nice feeling that some people in Serbia still believe in her and the return to the top,and they even report first about that!! But, I really don't know what is hapenning with Damir. I think that if Jelena plays Isaming it'll be her last ranking tournament in 08 (hopefully she'll play for the WC in Dec) but if she plays Bratislava and Isaming back to back I won't complain;)!

I've been playing investigator

Jelena is still there (todey she was watching some matches) !!!Yesterday, she was a hitting partner to Zvonareva.
She is there with some guy, maybe her coach.During her quali matches, there were 2 guys with her

Hey,

I think I saw her practice with Vera Zvonareva, I may have her on video, but I can't promise it's her... We'll see when I come back next week.

Stef

2 guys with her  Bikicprika? Practising with Vera is good news though, hopefully she heads to Bratislava soon though :scared:

27th October - $100K+H Bratislava
3rd November - $50K Ismaning
10th November - Nothing.

Is that right? I really hope she plays one of the $25K's in Australia before the WC Playoff, but I know she won't :(

It was so great to read that and get some insights into what Jelena is thinking. I'm very hopeful now that she's really going to stay committed to the tour and keep trying to make her way back. She's just too talented to not be successful at some point in the future. And I like that she's aiming for Top 20. That seems like an extremely challenging goal, but not something that's totally impossible for her. Hopefully she'll put together a very strong set of results in Bratislava and Ismaning!

Ugh, I really thought that after playing Linz that she would play Bratislava. Well i guess we can pretty much say she won't play Isaming either.

Nice article too, but maybe she shouldn't set such high goals. She hasn't even reached the Top 150, and she wants to be Top 20? Baby steps, Jelena.

Well, the positive thing is that she is in the main draw for Ismaning...I think if she was in MD in Bratislava she had definetely played it. Let's just hope she'll be back on court soon!:)

I think Ismaning will be her last event of 09. She's still in Linz being Zvonareva's hitting partner. That's good because Vera is playing amazing tennis and is making a late push for the YEC so I'm sure Dokic is getting in some really nice hitting practice now.

Once Ismaning is over, the training will commence for the Ausie summer circuit. Top 20 is a nice goal, but I don't see her getting there in 09. Top 50 is a possibility, top 20 will come in 2010 if she sticks with it.;)

I'm disappointed that she withdrew from Bratislava, but hope that she's getting in better quality practice with Vera this week and this will do her some good in the long run. I wouldn't count on her showing up for Ismaning anyways. Jelena irreliability is just......so infuriating sometimes. But I do like the fact that she's making press statements about her plans to keep playing next year.

I guess Jelena's played her last ranking match of 08 then ! Its annoying because she could've finished the year inside the top 150 or maybe top 100 if she'd played more matches:(!!!

However, on a positive note at least 08 was an improvement on the last few years:)!

Who does that? Doesn't play for a month and a half, then returns for a Tier II, then just ends her year prematurely? Strange.. Good luck at the WC Playoff, Jelena. And PUH-LEASE play one of the $25K's in WA before going there. Show some commitment to TA.

What if she doesn't go to Australia? :speakles:

If she thinks/wants to be among the best in the game, don't you think she should enjoy being out there? In that video, she looks like she hates tennis and would love to be anywhere but a tennis court IMO.

She couldn't even get a rally going though. I don't think Vera will ever want to practice with her again, unless Jelena is the type of person she can have a laugh with on the practice court. Which, after looking at that video, I highly doubt.

Be happy, Jelena.

Hey guys,

For what my opinion is worth, I can tell you what I witnessed in Linz. Like you said, she did not seem happy at all the whole practice, then at the end she talked quite rude to Vera Zvonareva. Don't know what happened, but really it was a very heavy atmosphere there. Though, she seemed to play quite good. Is she always breathing that heavily? Cos it's the first time I see a player do it that loud...
