So... Any news when and where Jelena is back?

Do we know the reason why she withdrew from Stockholm yet?

It can't be anything serious there have been no news articles and nothing released through her agent. It could be that she doesn't feel fit enough to compete yet, similar to her reasons for not playing in Eastbourne. I mean she wasn't fit enough for Wimbledon. However she does have a nasty habit of withdrawing from events. Its becoming the norm for her. I think she might need one of these....:smash:

She is entered at Istanbul as well. As for the American hardcourt events leading up to the US Open she is almost certainly going to have to go through qualifying in every one she plays as they are all Premier tournaments.

I hope Jelena goes on a run of playing for a solid month straight. It will help her tennis immensely as one nice run will give her confidence and allow her to string together some other nice results. Please no more random ass withdrawals and start playing on a consistent basis.

Just because you're Australian Jelena doesn't mean your QF points from AO 09 will permanently be on your ranking points forever.:p

According to the Notes and Netcords press release for this week on the WTA website...Jelena withdraw due to a lower back injury...not chronic fatigue....

scroll down to the bottom of the third page where it lists withdrawals for the week.

What she needs to do also is whore out the Euro indoor schedule like she did in 2001. Venus/Serena will be MIA in loads of them, and not all the top players seem to play them all. Points Jelena, points!

Mastodon
Jul 9th, 2009, 05:50 PM
The very minimum she needs to do between now and the end of the season is cover those 500 ranking points but I can't see it happening.
This situation probably wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that more than half of current ranking points came from one single tournament if she fails to pick up many more points this season her ranking could plummet to outside the top 150 after the Australian Open next year and she'll be back on the ITF tour and back where she started.

Alizé Molik

I think we could speculate on a million things that would be a good idea for Jeca, and if she shows up in good form she'll do well anywhere, but unless she plays it's never going to happen! I think she just needs to take the losses and keep going (that is if she doesn't have any back pain).

Words fail me with you people sometimes for months you've been complaining about her withdrawing from tournaments now she is entering them you still complain....I dunno. Another thing you need a realise is that she is along way from where she needs to be to be expected to win week in week out I think there are going to be a lot of ups and downs over the next few months.

The fact is she needs to play anywhere anytime and any surface. I think she is doing exactly the right thing and that includes entering a tournament during the second week of the US Open because you've got to get real its extremely unlikely she will make the second week I would say winning her first round would be a successful tournament and I think and hope she will stick to smaller tournaments until October then maybe play some WTA events.

I expected her to enter here; she might as well play this 100K right after the Italian one. She's trying to make up for the time she lost to mono, and also she wants to avoid the scheduling mistakes of last spring that saw her playing hardly at all before she got sick. She wants matches, and that's a good thing! If she's feeling well enough to play the US Open and then these two Euro events, I'll be a very happy fan. :)

We all today saw she is NOT sick.

Well technically, somebody could say that what we saw today of "jelena not caring" is a side effect of the illness. I mean the illness *is* serious and she may not have gotten over it but... on the other hand... why did she say on the interview that she's feeling well now?

Supposing Jelena is healthy, she will play the tournaments. If she is not... who knows.

Babolatpro880
Sep 1st, 2009, 03:19 AM
Jelena said she's planning on playing a lot of tournaments in the article about her mono. She wants to get match play since she was on BED REST for eight weeks. So why the hell shouldn't she play a bunch of ITFs. The 100Ks give good points and decent money and maybe she doesn't wanna do a ton of traveling so she's concentrating on Europe. I expect she'll enter that French 100K that Golovinjured mentioned unless she's taking a week off, and if she does well in these ITFs maybe she'll enter Linz or Luxembourg.

From TOPSPORT BG:

The former world number four Jelena Dokic arrived on Saturday for another tournament, the Allianz Cup, which has a prize fund 100 000 euros.

Born in Osijek, but playing for Australia, tennis player had an intensive training on Sunday at the courts of TC Levski Sofia. The temperamental Dokic was training with two coaches and reacted very emotionally on her game, like it was a real tournament match. Then the 26-year old Jelena went to the gym.

"For the first time I am in Bulgaria. I arrived early to prepare for the tournament level. I hope to performing well in Sofia, "Dokic said.

1. Jelena didn't want to go all the way back to France and then to Athens (after one more early loss most probably). So instead she is practicing and prepars for hardcourt in Athens and then WTA indoors season!

Or...

2. She rated her last loss as serious and will make a disappearing act for months, just like in previous years.

Or...

3. She still doesn't feel well and could be suffering from side effects from mono!

After reading wcwmaniac's report and looking at the photo's I think Jelena is extremely annoyed about the situation she finds her in when you consider how the year started and losing her temper in matches will certainly not help the situation and she is probably finding it hard to stay positive.

I think she withdrew from Saint Melo because she is extremely disatisfied with her level of play and doesn't see the point of travelling to France to again lose early.

I found it very strange that Jelena hasn't entered Linz Qualies as there isn't much choice on the ITF during that period!

It could be that she will drop down to $50k. If she doesn't play Athens it will probably be a case of see you in January Jelena!!

Yes if she withdraws from Athens I'm afraid she has played her last match for a long time. I would be very disappointed if she ended this season in worst possible way, without giving it a try!
