LOL why doesn't Jelena believe in lower tier WTA events? It doesn't have to go down to Challenger all the time. WTA Tier I -> ITF is kind of an unnecessary drop, and less points are on offer. Play Estoril.

What's wrong with playing 100K?? Much higher ranked players play some of those, and if she makes that decision, I don't see anything wrong with that. She could get some extra points there.

I know it probably won't happen, but it might be interesting if Jelena:

- played Fed Cup this weekend
- did some practise in Oz, maybe visits her mother in Sydney
- travels to Japan for a couple ITF tournaments (including one on synthetic grass?) to get some rhythm/match play
- skips the entire Euro Clay Court season including the French Open
- played Surbiton, Birmingham and either Rosmalen/Eastbourne before
- doing well at Wimbledon

Grass probably is her best surface after all..

Disagree completely.
Jelena is above playing on the ITF Circuit, for now, and it would be a backward step going to play 50ks in Japan!

She can be good on clay, after all it was on clay that she won her first WTA Singles Title (Rome 2001). She made the Roland Garros quarter finals the following year, and as others have said, she won 3 claycourt challengers last year when her comeback was in its infancy.

Sure grass might be her best surface but why skip the entire claycourt circuit to play 50ks in Japan????

Dokic doesn't have a bad surface. Yes she does have her "worst" surface (clay) but she can still play well on it. As evidence from her 5 career WTA titles being won on different surfaces (green clay, red clay, hard, grass, carpet).

I need my Jelena fix, hopefully she plays a real tournament soon after she helps Australia in Fed Cup!

This wouldn't have seemed so odd a few months ago, but we're talking about no. 70 in the world Dokic now, and skipping a GS for no apparent reason as a direct entrant is insanity.

From WTA Rulebook:
iv. Players who have competed in WTA Tour Tournaments for 10 years or more (not necessarily consecutively) will be allowed
three (3) additional Wild Cards, either in Main Draw or in
Qualifying, in both singles and doubles.

Jelena played in at least one WTA tournament during between 1998 and 2008 (didn't play in 2007) so I guess this rule applies to her :)

Dokic will head to France next week for a fitness camp ahead of her French Open and Wimbledon campaigns.

"My goal now is to finish the year in the top 30.

"Maybe if I play well or get another good grand slam result, I may even be able to finish in the top 20.

From my reading of the article, it seems like Jelena is going back to that tennis camp she always trains at in Nice and will be training there, in addition to playing tournaments.

She was talking about how her immediate goal is to be top 30 and once she's there, she thinks it's the next step to be top 20 and maybe top 10.

I don't think she will be saying that if she didn't intend to play. Especially since she said she's heading into the busiest part of the season. The article also did not say anything about her being at the camp for 3 weeks, just that she would be going there this week.

I think the reason for these ITF's is to guarantee she can defend her ITF points from last year. She has almost 200 points to defend in the next few months, this is a pretty easy way to defend them.

Jelena really needs to focus on the big events only. In smaller events there is an unnecessary risk of losing to someone lower-ranked than you. That's what happened today. It is bound to happen even to the best players sometimes. Let's hope she actually plays Warsaw, then make a good run on RG. After that she REALLY needs to enter the big tournaments.

Best of luck, Jelena. ;)

Привет

She was never going to be able to play both (unless she received an Eastbourne wildcard). So... Any news when and where Jelena is back?

Do we know the reason why she withdrew from Stockholm yet?

She's still on the entry list for the WTA event in Palermo, Italy starting July 13th.

Whether she actually play there... I have no idea:confused:!

The "Dokic-withdrawal" takes place just before the draw is released or 2-3 days before....so just wait a few more days;)
